    🕵️‍♂️ WHO AM I?:
My name is Matt Estlea, I'm a 26 year old Woodworker from Basingstoke in England and my aim is to make your woodworking less s***.
I come from 5 years tuition at Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a further 1 year working as an Artist in Residence at the Sylva Foundation, which is where I began growing my business. I then returned to Rycotewood to teach Evening Classes for 2 Years, while also teaching City and Guilds Furniture Making for 3 years. They were some long 12 hour days!
In September, 2021. I resigned from teaching at the school to focus on my own business.
In addition to all that studying and teaching during the week, I occupied my weekends working at Axminster Tools and Machinery in Basingstoke. For 5 years, I helped customers with purchasing tools, demonstrated in stores and events, and gained extensive knowledge about a variety of tools and brands. I discontinued this job role in 2019 to focus on teaching at Rycotewood and my own business.
During the week, I film woodworking projects, tutorials, reviews and a viewer favourite 'Tool Duel' where I compare two competitive manufacturers tools against one another to find out which is best. I also have a Free Online Woodworking School which you should definitely check out!

A lovely final tribute to that workshop. It was a place that helped so many through the lockdowns. The livestreams, the videos, the challenges, the nerf guns and the world record attempts. This old place had its quirks but it was lovely! I truly hope you can be as happy in the new place as the old workshop. Here's to many more years of making, creating and inspiring.

Matt brought me through the Corona-lockdowns. i always had the urge to do something usefull with all this spare time, so i decided to watch youtube. found matt in march 2020 and binged all videos i could find multiple times. then i orderd some manual woodworking-tools from amazon and i guess he´s the reason i am still in posession of my mental health after this 2 years of madness.
thank you matt for beeing my mentor.

The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

It’s amazing how small your shop actually was. It looked larger with everything in it, but I guess the camera has a lot to do with that illusion. I’m a fairly new subscriber of maybe about one year. I liked what I saw, but was a little disappointed that you didn’t post many videos. So, I’m glad to hear you might be posting more in your new shop. I was thrilled to see you start posting your van conversion as I like that kind of stuff, well really anything that involves building. I also that if anyone could build a cool van, it would be you.
From what little we saw, it looks like your new shop is much larger and, will no doubt be way cool. If I went through what you did during your move, there would have been a point to where I just stood there and cried, then screamed, then felt angry. But, it’s all worth it now. There’s another RUclipsr I follow that moved into his shop and invited his subscribers to help him move. That could have been a bad thing, but thankfully only about a dozen people showed up and they moved him in one day. His shop was inly a shipping container, so obviously much smaller with far less items to move. In the end, his drum sander was busted, but otherwise everything turned out good. I bring him up because he also is in the process of building out an off grid van and, he slowed way down in his video posts. Must be something about moving while building out a van?
Anyway, I look forward to seeing your new shop, the continued progress of your van build and, when you’re ready, I hope to see a lot of videos from you. I’m only a beginner woodworker and from what little I’ve seen from you, there’s no doubt I can learn a lot of the craft from you. I wish you the best in your new shop and, in what has now become a new life given the changes taking place. The only negative thing I see is that you live in a country where it freak’n rains and is cold all the time!

This video is a very good thing to show to people that think living out of a van is a good idea. It’s not. A lot of the time it’s not even cheaper than living in a studio apartment which has more room and is less maintenance, although that depends on how high the cost of living in your city is.
There’s also a really high crime rate that happens to people who live in vans.

Congrats on a job well done.
2 things to note: 1) next time you are worried a car/van will move put a block behind or on front of one of the tires that is on the ground. Which ever way is down hill, or both sides just in case 2) WD-40 is a penetrant not a lubricant. Meaning it will free up rust but the oils in it go away quickly so I recommend you put grease or a heavy oil on that lever.
Looking forward to you getting back in action. Good luck with settling in.

I can sympathise! I moved my workshop 18 months ago and I'm still not sorted. I even still have tools in storage 😞
By the way, for future reference, WD40 is, contrary to common perception. a very poor penetrating oil. It was actually developed as a water dispersant. A much better dismantling fluid is PlusGas, which works like magic!
And never, ever use WD40 on your woodworking machines! It leaves a sticky residue which will collect sawdust, turn it into gunge and make matters worse!

Can empathize with your emotions of seeing the workshop empty and saying last goodbyes the place. I lived for three years in the same dorm at Uni. Then within the span of a week, I took my final exams, partied, graduated, passed my first board exam for my professional career, celebrated some more, and moved then moved out of my home. This place was my life. I could also feel that lump rising in my throat as I realized how special this home was to me. It's just a simple college dorm, nothing fancy or special, but it was my home where I created thousands of beautiful memories and thinking to myself when my car was all packed up... this is it, I had over the keys and that chapter of my life is permanently closed... the emotions were strong. This is just a long winded way of saying, you did an honor of wrapping up the old workshop. Cheers to a new chapter mate

Hey Matt. Thanks for making me sob too in front of my computer, mate. ^_-
Just in case you didn't realize: It was *you* who made your old place a home for us all and you will do that to any new place (or flipping van) you move into again, I'm sure!

Bloody hell Matt. It was like watching my past, no lease signed. Our landlord had gone bust, just before signing the new agreement.
The new landlord doubled the rent. Recession on. We had to move out fast. Downsized with all the gear lol. We were skint.
We kept a small workshop footprint after that but still produced big products for over 35 years.
Later years, I sorned my van due to not much use. Flat van battery lol. Brakes seized on, ripped off by main dealer.
Sorry Matt, I can't stop tittering to myself at your misfortune's, being so close to my life experiences.
The average Joe thinks it's easy being self employed, and they all assume your all rich.
I just chill out now Matt. Having fun. Great video, really enjoyed watching it.
Hope the new workshop and the new shipment works well for you.
    Still tittering. Tony, brill...🤣🤣🤣🤣

Filming in the car is always a bad idea. Get caught doing that and its several points on your license which will ruined the van build somewhat.

I've watched u since the first day the Bertha Build dropped on here in June 2017 I think it was pal, just watching that in itself was a revelation pal and it seemed to drop a bomb on YT because every bugger then started doing them pal.
Watching you grow form a wee incredibly talented lad from Rycotewood to now an extremely talented Craftsman taught yourself even more types of the Trade has been an absolute pleasure Matt. So from one Mat to another I wish u all the best for the new place and ur incredibly BRIGHT FUTURE, a massive WELL DONE so far Matt and we all can't wait to see what ever you decide to achieve in the future fella
Big hugs from a SLIGHTLY BALDING 50 YR OLD BLOKE who's enjoyed watching all you've done so far 👀👍👍👍👌

I have enjoyed woodworking for the past 47 years. Nice big shop, all the tools you could ever use. I earned this by hitting a job everyday and then starting a business..not in woodworking. Reevaluate your life and make adjustments that will allow you to live life in a stable way!
