For a short time the Corsair's flew fighter cover on that West- PAC as the new Tomcats were failing in maintaining any kind of C.A.P. Boy was them Corsair's rugged, couldn't keep them from flying. ABE V-2 Div. Arresting Gear.
Linebacker 2, the first deployment of VF1 &VF2. The Pratt & Whitney engines had to have the 1st 3 stages of the turbo fans inspected every 50 hours..... VA 27 had the most sorties for a Attack Squadron for the Vietnam era. Kick aaaaa squadron. Jumpin Jerry Johnson was the CO. The best....
Uh, a much much more easier and assuring way, maybe the only way, to get a pilot position is to become a commissioned officer from college and go in through the flight training. Most all pilots never worked on the flight deck as enlisted personnel. That's almost impossible.
