I'm straight edge for about 5 years. its strange to explain to someone around me that i don't drink or do drugs even on holydays, because russian society says "if you don't drink that means you're sick or dumb". my parents used to say that ive made a good decision, but when ive grown up...oh shit now im so alone and everyone around me think im not ok. what the hell is wrong with people? why i cant live my life not trashing my body and not ruining my health and mind?
I feel you man, Im living also in a country where everyone just drinks in their free time, and people think you are sick when you don't ... but Im trying to find people that are the same minded as me, yes it's really hard, but there are a few, sometimes I go out with some of friends that I know they are drinking, but they know Im not going to and they respect that, but it's really hard to see them get drunk, and become like other people...Well, living sober is not for everybody, it's really disciplined living :)
I claimed Edge when I was 11 and never tried anything and never will. I am now gonna be 16. I love being edge people like you and the vids will inspire to stay edge. XXX
So much respect man, 9 years sober is impressive by any measure. I've had kind of a weird experience with sobriety; I "experimented" a lot during my early teens too and drunk quite heavily when I was 14-15. I then realised that alcoholism runs in my family and that my relationship with it was getting shady, so I went totally sober until last summer - I now have a cider once every 2/3 months because I enjoy the taste. Even though I don't identify as edge anymore it's always gonna be an important movement to me because it really helped me work out who I am, and it can make such a beautiful difference to people's lives
+calmyourtempeh I think it really important to know what you need to know about you. My family is so tame and my circumstances all self inflicted by any measure but with an addictive personality this is what's right for me. It's great to hear that this is such an important and relevant thing for you even if it's not for you any more.
Respect dude, I have given up smoking 12 months ago, I'm 32 now and have kids so it was really important for me to give it up for my health. I still enjoy a beer now and then but not interested in abusing it anymore.
Good vid. I know I've just started but it's cool that I can relate to this. I'm 20 and threw my cigarettes away yesterday. My last drink was months ago and I wanted to turn over a new leaf. I'm never going back to those substances, and even after making the proclamation yesterday I have people saying that I can't do it, but that just drives me to be better. I'm never going to drink, smoke or do drugs for the rest of my life, I'll prove all these people wrong.
I was straight edge my whole life, never felt like I need to numb myself with anything and then past year I got drunk for the first time, tried smoking, experimented with weed and pills just to see what the big deal was. I was like THIS is what you are all looking forward to???!!! THIS?!?! You really must fucking hate yourself and your body to look forward to being nauseous, tired, sleepless and dysfunctional for a few hours or days. Back to straight edge and forever straight edge! XXX
I’m straight edge. I technically haven’t been really “edge” because I’m not legally of age (I’m 13) to drink or do any of that shit. Straight edge pride!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing man! I've claimed edge at the age of 17(I'm 31 now) It was a tough time for me at the start as my friends wouldn't want to hang out with me, but I soon found friends that were cool with me being me and I was cool with them for being them. Grats on quitting smoking, my wife smokes (currently) and she's trying to quit.
Hey man thanks for sharing your story! I've been Straight Edge my whole life ... ive never done anything and I pride myself on that.... Do you know where I can meet people with my same ideas in mind ?
Discovered Straight Edge probably 2 years ago thanks to Minor Threat. I've always loved hardcore music like AFI, H²O, and Stick to your guns. plus, I'm thinking of forming a punk band, and I'm only 16. What do you think? do you think I got a shot at this?
+Isaac Hernandez (The Edge Dude) I started a punk band at 16. Just go for it. We won't all be famous but some of us will. Do music because you love it.
I had my last smoke(s) 20 years ago, drink was about 14 years ago and eating meat (I eat veggie/vegan) about 11. Many reasons; health, cash and doing what I wanted because I wanted to do it. I have a few leather jacks and a few pairs of boots, but for the better part, that's it. While I don't subscribe to the lifestyle, I have done this because it made me feel good.
+huwmorgan74 it's about finding what is right for you, and you can enjoy not drinking or sobriety in whatever sense. I feel like this is perfect for the HC kids that are just into it heavily but it's not for everyone!
I had a question I am looking into becoming straight edge I don't listen to heavy metal music never have I've never done drugs I have smoked cigarettes before in the past many years ago however I am a Christian and we take communion using real wine well I still be able to become straight edge and take communion
Am working on it. I been reducing my alcohol intake and also been cutting on the cigs. It's hard but I want to quit I have lost family and friends plus I had bad moments while under the influence. Been a year free of drugs have my occasional beer but the cigarette are hard to quit. Will love some motivation and inspiration and this video gives me courage to really become straight edge.
If you don't already own it I strongly suggest getting a copy of Ebullition's 'Some Ideas Are Poisonous' comp, released in the mid 90's. Comes with a great zine. 👍🏽
+EndlesslyHeSaid I've never seen that film. I was called myself straight edge for 9 years, until I turned 27 and questioned my own behaviour. I had the odd drink now and then - the odd small single malt whisky every month or two. I did that for nine years! Then 2 and a half years ago I decided to abstain from alcohol again. It felt very natural, not forced. I don't even hang with non drinkers anymore. I wouldn't call my straight edge, not out of dislike for straight edge, just I feel disconnected from the modern hardcore scene. Now I'm going to put on some Chokehold! Ha ha
Hey man, I just built up courage to post my first video, it's not well edited like yours, but I would LOVE if you could stop by and let me know what you think. (by the way I talk a little about AFI)
you don't do drugs, smoke or drink....but you disfigure your body with piercings and tattoos? oh well, each to their own i suppose. one question if you don't mind, could you tell me if you know of any Christian hardcore bands that sound similar to the red baron? when i search Christian hardcore on utoob it's all metalcore and screamo rubbish.
@@EndlesslyHeSaid thanks for the reply. i already have their albums. i've recently found a website that listed all Christian hardcore, metalcore and (unfortunately) post hardcore bands, and bought albums by venia, ten 33, strengthen what remains, braveheart, God so loved the world, blood of the martyr and in due time.

I'm 49 years old and have been edge since I was 21! When I took the oath, It was for real and forever. If your NOT straightedge now, you never were.

+Chris Allan we all have to grow up at some time! But having kids really changes what you see when you look at the world. Keep up the good work!
It definitely does man, changed me for the better, I appreciate things more now. Look forward to the next video dude.
