      NHRA has had Sunday evening/night races before. I think TV has a lot to do with scheduling. It would be cool to see a night race at say Denver, where it gets plenty hot.
      We used to go to the AHRA Nationals at Alamo Dragway in San Antonio. Really hot there in the summer! The Sunday eliminations started late afternoon and often went into the late night. Of course their weekly racing on Saturday evening/night often ran well into the early hours of Sunday morning!
      Before live TV/Same day coverage, it wasn't uncommon for an NHRA race to run into the evening.
      Live TV changed everything. But I'm with you. A night race, maybe a Saturday night race, would be cool!

    • @dmeemd7787
      @dmeemd7787 Год назад

      @@garyjackson3531 yeah, St Louis used to be a night race, I think a big part of that was because it was just so ungodly hot there, but I agree I wish there was more night qualifying and night races throughout the year!
      I worked on nitro cars for a big name team and it's an ungodly amount of work, but from a crew, team owner, driver's standpoint I don't think they care too much but I remember we were at, it was either Pomona or Phoenix, don't quote me on that but we ran fairly early in the day and we had the car backfire and damage the brand new body. We're still at the track until 1:00 a.m. fixing it! And this was on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't a massive funny car fire but we had a good portion of the body torn apart, they wanted to keep using it because it was so much lighter than the body from the year prior.
      It definitely has a bit to do with sponsors and such being able to attend the race at a reasonable time coupled with tradition and well the people that are paying all the money lol

      EL HALCON. All classes except top fuel run 1/4 mile (1320’). Top fuel are so fast, >500 km/hr, that NHRA shortened the run to 1000’. Racetracks are often too short for the drivers to get stopped safely, even with parachutes!

      That’s shows the driver exactly where the crew chief wants him to lay down rubber. May not realize it,there’s bald spots over all that track long about the staging lanes. Sometimes there is,sometimes there’s not depends on how much of the rubber they take with em’once the tree drops.
