What could be, just for the canon, is that Gaunter, being the evil thing he is, just stole the body of that poor guy. He left an apple there because he‘s sarcastic and witty and then simply got his own clothes. „Evil has no face“.
This is exactly what I was thinking, straight up body snatching. Maybe the guy wished for his looks to never age, so Gaunter stole his looks!

That whole area in Velen seems like a deleted plot line.
could be...
@@xLetalis isn't it? There was supposed to be big quest with scoia'tael and nilfgardian army. There is a mine that you cannot enter that is supposed to be part of it. In particular south eastern Velen is super empty with the army camp being almost not interactive (there are like 3 quests there?). Sith western is petty boring too but there are a t least many things to kill there.
Exactly my thoughts...too much of a empty space too few a quests
Yeah the army camp even behind the wall is almost fully rezzed and complete. The Inn outside the Nilfgardian Army camp (the one you need special clothes to enter) was planned to be used for the quest at the camp. My best guess is you had to take out a Nilfgardian commander and steal his clothes, then sneak into the INN and get information for the ScoiaTeal leader. They didn't add in the Nilfgardian armor set to the game (the one that allows you to enter the "hidden" inn) until a much later DLC. The whole Inn is there, but completely empty of interaction and the NPCS never leave and there always looks like a vacant spot next to a guy that is waiting for you to talk to him.
@@xLetalis There was actually supposed to be a huge plotline in Velen about the Catriona plague, which would've included ya boy Iorveth and ya girl Saskia, but it was cut for unknown reasons.

We can see Gaunter O’Dimm in the beginning of the game. I think it was planned
I didn't realize that until I started the game over a year after finishing it.
O Dimm is the one that Geralt talks to in the White Orchard inn. The guy that points him to the Niflgaard garrison. He even introduces himself as “ a man of many names” including a merchant of mirrors and a man of glass. There are a few different references to Gaunter O Dimm thruout the entire game: base version, hearts of stone and blood&vine. It’s a nice touch from CDPR.
Apparently if you read her journal, the spotted wight Marlene in B&W was cursed by the Man of Mirrors himself, over a hundred years earlier. Not sure why he was begging for food when he can literally pause time and walk in the sky, I suppose he just wanted an excuse to curse her.
Maybe he felt that the spotted wight population was getting too low and was preserving an endangered species?
@@BradMason84 or maybe he was testing her, if im not mistaken he mentions to geralt "I like you witcher" or was that someone else?

I think this corpse model (or something very similar) is just the default dead body used for many hidden treasures and other stuff randomly around the world. And the apple part is just the commonest loot u could find on random dead villagers for some reason. Not sure what the apple is supposed to reference, but when I played, I found it one of the most common loot items on random dead bodies. Also, I don't think Master Mirror would have a body or a corpse, or at least he could change it as a demon or devil.

A burned body at the beach? I would guess:
- he was on a ship
- the ship caught fire
- then his clothes caught fire from the ship
- he jumped into the water to douse the flames
- the ship might have sunk or only noticed he is missing way later when they had already moved away, so no rescue attempt could be made
- between the shock from burning and swimming in cold water, he barely made it to the shore before expiring (or only made it to the shore as a corpse)
- you find him
interesting guess
Damn, that was an interesting theory tho!
Also, the same body can be found in white orchard, near dune vildenvert, pass under the bridge towards the beach, and youll run into drowners, a broken ship, and some loot, and that same body
I can tell to have seen that corpse's model multiple times around the map, so although this is an interesting theory I think it's busted. I thank you for your videos, keep going😙
There's one shore corpse I know of that has meaning. When you first go to Skellige, the alcoholic captain of your ship is lying dead around the corner, it looks exactly like him and by looting his body you can get your 1000 gold back that you paid him for the trip.
Nah. Gaunter isn't human. He, in all likelihood, can't be killed in the human understanding of the word. If anything he just discarded a his mortal vessel for something new, but it looks more like the corpse of an old man. He's evil incarnate and as long as there is good and evil, he will never die.
4:17 I literally got no idea what are you talking about...
That happens everytime I get into a car in real life.
damn I hate it when that happens
Where do you live ? Ireland ?
Almost all "Knight for Hire" contracts completion notes can be found in "The Ducal Camerlengo
" in a self. Many of the creatures are classified stating W3 which must be a reference to the game itself as they are classified in-game in the same way.
Here's a theory:What if the horse we see Vesemir grooming at the start of the video is The Whispering Hillock?
@Leon Russell I mean it could be...
Well, there is theory that Gaunter is Devil itself, so if he is one and that's his body, then apple in his pocket and as well in his hand most of the game, makes sense. As we remember, Satan first was an angel, who then was expelled from Eden for his behaviour, yet we also know that the humans got expelled by eating fruit from forbidden tree which is often portraied as an apple. Who pushed Eve to take the apple? Satan. So here it is, idk tho if it will make sense to you guys. This body still might be some random pleb.
It could also be the body of another victim of Gaunters. He loves word play so he could have done the same trick to someone else and he the guy burned up and went over the cliff. It seems very much like something he would do. Plus the apple being there is definitely a mark of his, like spoons or mirrors
@@auronunsent2209 Wait. So you mean that's the body of another guy who tried to challenge Gaunter in this riddle-game like Geralt did, but lost? It is actually brilliant idea!
@@naus9067 not confirmed but between your comment reminding about biblical history and this video, I can firmly believe that it's entirely possible. It lines up perfectly with what Gaunter does. I'm surprised there aren't more bodies like that around the area. The man travels more then Geralt does

Your point of view changed mine, and because Witcher 3 is my favourite game of all time, a am deeply thankfull to you for pushing me a bit closer to it. I really like your theory, you made my day Matthew. I wish you all the best!
Don't only add christianity to this as there is various religions out there and I do not agree with G.O.D. being evil, he is more like Gods in either Greek or even Egyptian mythology, one God for ever major aspect of life, if you sign up with him on anything he does warn you about your choice and you take risk, then cry. Again Gaunter is not only evil, but every God could be.
I wonder if Gaunter O'Dimm can take many forms and this is one of them that has been defeated? Excellent video as usual.
Thank you ;] I would assume so...
Looks like CDPR cut a deal with gaunter o dim to make Witcher 3...
There are many other very similar drowned men's bodies in the sama pose close to water throughout the game world -- just explore any piece of coastline, or river bank long enough. That particular body doesn't look any different from many others I have found in the game.
I mean O‘Dimm can‘t die, so yeah. Still, the corpse is pretty similar so I can see why people got fooled.
its not a fact. We don't know who he is, may be he just used obsessed body to interact with Geralt
I'm starting to glimpse Gaunter O'Dimm in the real world.
Perhaps when geralt defeated o'dimm the corpse of his human host appeared at the beach , but also time traveled to the point in which geralt first arrived in velen.
0:08 Wild Hunt appears at Corvo Bianco
Ciri: "Just passing through, gonna chill under the tree"
This clothing looks like nilfgaardian doublet. The place we are talking about also happened to hold caves with wyvern's nest nearby. However, wyverns are not fire-breathing in Witcher universe. Still, are with caves is already on Nilfgaard part of the map. So it's probably an effort to burn the nests which went wrong. The guys on the island are probably mercs acccomodating the failed firestarter.
Probably the Poor Guy killed by Level 99 Wolf in Death March Mode. That's why the body still remains for almost 6 years.
You can start a series similar to the "Details missed in The Wither 3" but for the other Witcher games too ( Btw I love your videos

If only there was an option where Gaunter Odimm gives us a reward of a sword where its made of some mysterious metal that can actually kill Higher vampires like Detlaff, That would be a good transition into the next expansion.
That sword would literally have to be a Higher Vampire.
indeed
@@kakarroto007 I think I read a passage somewhere about the world of the vampires, there is a kind of metal that they are weak to
@@salzshady8794 There probably is, but it might not be available on Earth, as they are post-cunjunction creatures. We saw that you can cage a vampire and shackle his hands with dimeritium, preventing them from shape-shifting. Also in 'La Cage au Fou', Regis acted like he was a step away from death's door after the ordeal. We know Vilgefortz basically melted Regis in the books, but he was alive and well in Blood and Wine, (thanks to Detlaff). We also saw Geralt hack Detlaff apart with Arondight, only for him to instantly start healing: even with his ("core"?) destroyed. It took Regis to end him. All I know is what Regis said, (and he's a higher vampire so he's probably an authority on the matter), that only a higher vampire can kill a higher vampire.

This is not a unique corpse model - there's another, exactly same one at "hidden treasure marker", NW from the Hangman's Alley in Velen. This one though, have the water-damaged letter from Bert to Molke on it.
With the amount of work put into Heart's of Stone, there's just no way they'd use some random "stock" corpse for Gaunter.
Who tf can think that Triss is actually Coral from books.. xD
It's an interesting theory, there's a lengthy discussion on Reddit about it. Total speculation by that author of that post, but entertaining at the least.
I'm more concerned about who tf thinks Geralt slept with Ciri...
I think it maybe was their idea that It would be Gaunter O’Dim but they scratched the idea and the corpse was left sitting(laying) there
My theory would be that Gaunter is similar to a Doppler, in that he can take on other appearances. He killed the merchant he stole the appearance from and left him on the shore there. That would explain why the body is always there at least. But you're right, the differences in clothing and facial structure lead me to believe it has nothing to do with him at all.
Don't know if anyone noticed this before but you know the quest on the Célavy lake? How you walk on water? Well, you can learn about this quest when you go ask Palmerin to introduce you to the duchess. If you go from Corvo Bianco and around the arena at night (not sure if it's there during the day) and go to the tent in which Palmerin's asleep, you can eavesdrop on two guys on your right side, one of them is sitting on his horse and talks about some mission he has on that particular lake. In response to that, Geralt says his usual 'might be worth checking out' and the quest appears in your journal.
oh interesting, I knew about the palmerin night scene but not about the two guys!
Be glad it's not his real body, cause those who see his true form never recover.
Also, that's quite the commitment to discovery. Really appreciate the effort!
Gaunter O' Dim is technically a time demon (grants wishes at the cost of souls and can manipulate time at will) even if you banish him, he can easily remain and most likely isn't really there as you see him.
gaunter transcends the patches duh
North of Road to Black Mountain, there is a bandit camp, same body lies there on the beach.

If O’Dimm did curse the lady in Blood and Wine and Geralt cured it, why couldn’t he then cure Lord Haircut of his “stone heart” if it was a curse that Gaunter inflicted him with?
There is a body just like that beetween Lindenvale and Crows perch next to the lake. So one more reason not to belive that theroy
There is exactly the same body near Lindenvale (this village is called Zalipie in polish language).
We all know Gaunter O'Dimm is that dude you save from a Griffin at the beginning of the game.
@Leon Russell The character you saved at the beginning of the game is voiced by "Alexander Norton" the same voice actor who voiced Gaunter.
Perhaps Gaunter O’Dimm sometimes takes over his victim’s bodies (or takes part of their appearance, anyways) when they lose bets to him, and he doesn’t burn them all down to the skeleton (like he did with Olgierd). If that’s true, it would make sense that the body is already there. I think it’s too much of a coincidence to be entirely unrelated to O’Dimm.
Maybe that’s why he wants people’s souls? So as to take over some of their traits and become more powerful/versatile every time?
could be...
5:17 damn He's already got a new video subject planned out. He just never runs out of ideas.
I think this corpse doesn't look like it has been burnt, more like badly weathered by the water
Speaking of the giant skeletons - they present a mystery in and of themselves. They're obviously whale skeletons, and accordingly they show up at the whale graveyard in skellige. However, there's also at least one in Velen. Can't get too specific unfortunately, but it's in the Southeast portion of the map, not too far from where a hag (water? grave?) Is guarding some treasure. It's fairly far in land considering its a whale...makes you wonder how it got there. Another appears during 'Through Time and Space ' in the world with the red weeds, though I believe that the devs were just trying to pass the assets off as the bones of a mysterious giant alien creature.
It does look a bit like him, perhaps it's based on his model, but I've seen at least one other identical body in a completely different place. You find it in the sewers under Novigrad, while clearing the path for Triss and the mages to escape. It's in a room with a bunch of chests and a small barred window at the top of the wall opposite the entrance, it'll be against the left wall.
I love how you rewinded the scene with the spoon in the eye :D
Geralt just sits there and shakes his head in disgust.
Actually, this corpse was also in other locations. I saw twice the same corpse during the game.
Every time I hear the Witcher music in your videos it just bring me back. Quality video as always!
Outfit looks like typical Nilfgardian one. I think some dev just put his body there with idea of making small story. But it ended up forgotten. Game was made in similar pattern as Cyberpunk, which is total chaos and rush. So what do expect.
Number one, who tf is this guy lol...why is he just randomly there, sat undiscovered for 6 years...and why is his corpse charred next to the water 😜
I found the exact same body in a shipwreck in An Skellig, near Urialla Harbour. On the half burned corpse you find a cargo list that starts the “Nilfgaardian Treasure” quest. So, I guess it’s one more proof the body is not related to Gaunter O’Dimm
