That's cheap. Unless they have revolutionized the way helicopters are built this is unrealistic. Just a turbine engine made by P&W or Turbomeca runs 650k. New.
Yes here we are in 2023 and so far they have a couple of CB shells, a mock up of a transmission and dozens of fancy videos. Every other turbine engine manufacturer has had development cycle for new engines that without fail have stretched to over a decade, yet here is Hill claiming a clean sheet engine design (their first engine no less) that will be ready, tested and certified in under a year. When something is too good to true ...
Hey Mike. I follow the HILL project closely as the official Ambassador for the Company is an amazing flight school right here in Canada. The landing gear “delete” is in fact a retractable gear. Interesting enough, Hill just recently released skids as an option.
I've been following the Pilot Yellow channel for a long time.... that's how I found out about the project! Hoping this becomes available in the near future!
Thanks for covering this! As a helicopter pilot it’s very exciting to see a new helicopter come to market, especially in the experimental category. I watch all your videos and I appreciate you following some helicopters too. I’ll be following this with great interest!
I think there are enough rich people looking for luxury to make this modern helicopter worth the development - we have hyper cars now… cars where there is both more horsepower and torque than weight in pounds with extremely lavishly luxurious interiors and exteriors and they make like 12 of them ever and sell them for $20M… I’m sure they can make a luxury helicopter… only issue is that they may be competing with traditional converted setups where you have a much more time tested large helicopter with a luxurious interior made by a heli custom shop… but this one looks way more organic and well balanced… must be very nice, I’d try it so long as it’s working parts are top notch, looks are one thing, reliability, performance, and aviation safety is another… better be impeccable lol.
you get to fly ---so much envy ... I joined the military to fly but it turns out my older brothers constant beat downs left a tear in my retina so they let me get my knee shattered in Panama instead . Peace and love and may you fly forever.
As of last week, they've 3-4 airframes built up already, all carbon fiber body stuff, extremely light and strong, ready for building and putting all the rest off the equipment: engine, avionics, seats, rotors, landing gear, etc. Can't wait for Dr. Hill's prototypes to fly!!!
Beautiful, sleek & more affordable......also wish AW09 can be more affordable......preferred on helicopter with rear clamp doors, makes the cabin more versatile
Hi Mike... First, love your channel. Love the fact that you built your own airplane. Very KOOL! The Hill helicopter is just plain sexy. I agree with you on aesthetics when it comes to the cockpit. The ergonomics is important. The cool thing about the HX50 is that each buyer/owner will help to build their helicopter and learn to do all the light maintenance. This will help to keep the running cost under control. Now all I need to do is get my license........ :)
@sagecleveland3953 even now, a year after your comment, they still haven't built any, so they certainly haven't delivered any. They have taken lots of deposit money.
Hey Mike. It is the most beautiful helicopter that's on its way! Helicopters are it. Lol They're are also personal passenger Drones available. But, forget all that! The HX 50 is a Game Changer! Thx for doing this video!
Hi Mike. This is an awesome concept which I have followed from the start. Please remember the purchaser has to build 51% of it themselves!! I’m a Robinson R44 owner/pilot.
@@andrespaz989the built-by-owner requirement is to meet the conditions of what was called a "kit" aircraft, and is registered as "experimental" (or whatever the UK equivalent might be), because the type has not met certification requirements. Hey Mike. I own serial #11 for an HX50… I’ll let you check it out when I see you again at the next air show…. I’ll be at sun n fun with pipistrel. I’m the first civilian owner of the velis! Cheers! Shane
I really want to get my PPL(H) some day. Flying a helicopter looks like a blast. Manufacturers have slowly been improving maintenance schedule requirements to bring costs down which is great.
Landing gear not deleted. It's retractable wheeled gear. Look at the Agusta 109. 500SHP!??!?? They will make their own engine?!?!?! It won't carry anywhere near what they claim for payload with that power. This CAD only aircraft will never reach the skies I'm afraid. It's really easy to design in CAD, and make a bunch of marketing claims. Bringing an actual aircraft to market is one of the more difficult engineering challenges in our world. Many have tried, less than one percent succeed. One of the most popular ways to fail at that is to try to bring a brand new aircraft to market with a brand new power plant. One or the other is nearly impossible by itself. I wish them luck but I'll believe it when I see it.
I agree, it's not close to flying,@@irisaviation852 . If you read my comment, you may notice that I said it was no longer CAD-only; I didn't say that it was close to flying.
Keep in mind we are talking experimental vs certified here. Experimental is much cheaper. But yeah, you can absolutely expect the price of this thing to rise if they deliver on what they're claiming. The Icon A5 has some similarity here, because it was a "cool, modern, fun" design, although not necessarily more capable than competitors, it certainly looks a lot cooler doing it. Anyways, they announced it at $140k, but then that rose to $180k by the time they were gearing up for production. Then it kept rising, and now a base model is $280k, with a loaded model pushing $400k.
Hi Mike. Remember the Icon A 4 or A 5 seaplane? It was introduced with a very lucrative price tag. Then some DA got killed doing low level aerobatics. The lawyers jumped in and company bellied up. New owner claimed the original price was not sustainable and the price is now more than double. Makes one wonder, are they being honest or just overly optimistic. If they can bring it to market at anywhere near that price I guess we'll know the answer. To quote Gordon Gecko, " greed is good " right? At any rate, if you really want to fly choppers ( perfect choice in your neck o the woods ), my take is to take your initial training up to at least solo in an old Bell 47 or a pre fadec Robinson. It will make you a MUCH better pilot and will greatly increase your appreciation of turbines or fadec recips. Flying a piston banger without fadec will keep you very busy and is much more challenging but the reward will come when that fadec quits ( and it will. Murphy's Law ). Just advice from an old guy. You keep em coming n I'll keep watching. Till next time.
You must not know what you’re talking about at all! FADECs rarely fail (not never, but infrequently). Also there are NO Robinson’s with FADEC systems. Lastly, there’s no Michael MaGill in the FAA registry with even a student rating in helicopters. Don’t give bad advice to people without any baseline information.
@@hangarlife1684 i do know what I'm talking about. A simple search would reveal that Robinson does offer FADEC. So do most other manufacturers. Rotax, Lycoming and Continental offer them too. Just because you don't see my name on the registry doesn't mean I am an asshole like you. Even you admit things break. If you had experience in helicopters you would know the difference between Fadec and non fadec. Maybe you're the one who needs a fact check. I stand by what I said, learning the basics improves the understanding of the basic systems and makes one more prepared when things go south. Thousands of pilots learned to fly in non fadec aircraft. Thousands of pilots have spent their entire careers in turbines and probably couldn't fly an old recip if they had to. I spent my career taking care of my family and never had the funds to pursue my licence but that doesn't mean I don't know lots of people who fly, own aircraft or even flight schools. My ste father was a sales contract executive with Lockheed in 1970. My first private plane ride was in the back of a p38 with his close friend Herman"Fish" Salmon. I knew Kelly Johnson and visited with him at his ranch in Pacific Pallisades. I flew many times with Earnie Shelton, once the oldest active flight instructor in the world. Met him in 1980 and my wife was treated for cancer at the same time as he was. He's been gone almost 10 years now. I've built houses for many people who fly. A couple of the even own helicopters and seaplanes and Bonanza's. I am obsessed with aviation and am not above bumming a ride. Obviously you are obsessed with yourself. You can do a faa records search but not a simple google search before unleashing your inner troll. Maybe you're the one who doesn't know of whence he speaks. My advice still stands. @@brettswanson4452 if you had to build your own, I'm guessing that tooling and material in the inception period will be insanely expensive.. I do understand where you are coming from, but those numbers are just wayyyy too good to be true
So far, the price went up to 850k and the chopper still does not exist as a flying machine... I heard the founder has had a lot of legal troubles. Many privates who paid the 100k in advance sued the company because of the delays. Today, there is still no engine ready. Hopefully, the first flight will happen in December 2025, as they announced, but many people I spoke with are not reassured. Up fully, it will become a reality. There is another great machine out there... I personally flew you the Konner K1 and K2 which are amazing machines...
I am absolutely adding this sh?! To my vision board. Omg. Saw this in a Fb add. Went to the site. Blown away. Found this video. Great job. Omg. The interior. Only down side is 35 gph but if your gonna fly gotta pay the price.
This helicopter continues the trend of newcomers to the aviation market being able to build higher performing planes and helicopters for a fraction of the price as legacy companies.
I used to fly the Bell Ranger with the RR 300 HP. It was not very powerful and this helicopter’s specs sound great. I’ll wait to hear more, but highly skeptical it will be at the price mentioned. It’s like saying it will be good, fast, cheap. Most the time in life it is a pick two scenario. I have a feeling it will be good, fast, but not cheap.
I hope this project will become a reality, but like yourself i think the price will blow out significantly. The HX50 in my opinion will be priced well for its class but after certification it will be a $2m helicopter and the release date will push out to 2026 if not later. I truly hope that I'm wrong and Hill Helicopters plan comes to fruition because if it does maybe they just might have a buyer in me
I will be very surprised if it will ever happen just doesn’t look real there is a reason big manufacturers don’t do everything in-house I just don’t see new company with no previous experience making it like this 🤷🏻♂️
Can anyone remember an aircraft that came close to the performance and price claims made before they were certified, nevertheless before they had a flying prototype?
I would like to know its performance at 7000 feet and 35 degrees, as well as its vne at that altitude, and Who is going to give it maintenance in Mexico? thank you.
My last ride in a Bell ranger 206L going to work on the oil rigs left me a incomplete paraplegic. Tail rotor problems put us into a spin then hit the water. Shattering my back and spinal cord injury. I live most days in pain. Screw helicopter.
Starting price for the HX50 would be around $670,000 USD. I made the wrong currency conversion in the video.

Anyhoo, getting off the soapbox, I agree that this one of the best helicopters I've ever seen. And I'm pumped you're dipping your toe into the world of helicopters! I'd love to be a pilot of both!
AWESOME !! Could this engine be put in a GA fixed wing airplane? For these prices and performances it will leave literally ALL single engine propellors planes behind by forever and infinity
Very Nice Bro! Get Good Pilots!
Looks great!!
This will end in failure... A luxury heli with a turbine cannot be less than a mil...
Maybe, turbine alone can be $300k+. Maybe that’s why they are building their own.
Looks fabulous 👌
Looks amazing.
How much maintenance cost 💲?
Comparing cost on a certified factory built helicopter that actually exists to an experimental kit concept that comes unbuilt is a little silly.
It’s everything you say, if it ever gets built.
This helicopter continues the trend of newcomers to the aviation market being able to build higher performing planes and helicopters for a fraction of the price as legacy companies.
Luxury helicopter tours. Not that expensive for an LLC if used for business.
Yeah I've been following them for a while. It is a beautiful bird and a great price point, even if it goes up. Which it probably will.
Paper (and digital softwares) takes anything from someones mind into visual information. Reality is a bit further down the road
To good to be true... will never happen.
I truly hope that I'm wrong and Hill Helicopters plan comes to fruition because if it does maybe they just might have a buyer in me
Forgot the model but the helicopter they used on Airwolf tv series is a retractable wheels helicopter.
Whats the cost of the helo
I know the new star if they decide to reboot “Airwolf!”
Beautiful
I would like to know its performance at 7000 feet and 35 degrees, as well as its vne at that altitude, and Who is going to give it maintenance in Mexico? thank you.
Real nice ship
wonder how much over their empty weight and under their performance specifications with the current conceptual design. Dr Hill is the Doctor of what?
Seem last too good to be true. Time will tell tho.
My Lord 😳 Aerodinámicamente (My English not that Good) Tail Rotor Ducted, Main Rotor Three Blades Airframe AWESOME ☝🏽 NOTHING LIKE IT SAFETY INCLUDED
My last ride in a Bell ranger 206L going to work on the oil rigs left me a incomplete paraplegic. Tail rotor problems put us into a spin then hit the water. Shattering my back and spinal cord injury. I live most days in pain. Screw helicopter.
Helicopters are designed to take rich people from a company hq to the airport or from the airport after arriving in the company jet.
Bell 222 helicopter has retracts. Remember Airwolf ?
Are these released yet? Are they reliable?
No, as of December 2023 they don't even have a running engine yet.
There is no way to assess the reliability of an aircraft that doesn't even fly yet.
สำหรับตลาดในอาเซียนจะมีเฉพาะรุ่น 2 ที่นั่งเป็นอย่างน้อยที่นั่งเดียวจะไม่เข้ามาทำตลาด
