First the one I would tap into and implement a bit differently.
Would add the rein art one, but on a 3 sec CD as a parry like the genji one. The goal is to parry a big Ata k. Tale no shield damage. And send in back to enemies.
The Mei one felt really good. Maybe a bit too junky. Maybe her wall could be reworked. Where interact cancel the casting. The ability rotate the wall. And right or left click make it a wall or a pillar. Idk. Maybe the jump activation is fine but the interact cancel is wierd since her wall cancel is just the ability. Also it should share the cool down. To not allow for stupid rollout and softlocks. But the pillar is half the cool down.
The baptiste one, could be added. Way shorter, only at max charge. 8 directions. And you stand still to jump hight.
Then there is the dva back trust, orisa, sigma, junk, soujour reactivation (not the pull), the genji one, that could all be added as is.
But especialy the widow one. Maybe nerf her damage, and boost it back when air born or something but I never enjoyed, played, did well with her till the patch.
The i'tresting one but more like guess it show somethings wrong with the character lol.
Funly enoyth I enjoyed ramatra better. I would honestly rework ramatra to have a 4 sec CD on stance change. And he is en powered for the first 6 8 sec after switching. So you would want to switch often enouth to keep the boost. But not too much that you would be in a bad mode at the wrong time since you have a 4 sec CD. This April fool just showed me a how wierd ramatra felt like.
The and last. The ones that sparked the need for a character around the mechanic.
Tracer random weapon, ash for a puppeteer character, an artillery support for the zen one, nad casidy's bounty.
But the queen one definitely need a proper character. Made a very long comment about everything you can do with it. Don't care to retype it here.

I like the Sigma change a TON. From a thematic standpoint, chucking a rock always felt lame and unfitting for such a cool power as gravity manipulation. Letting him control it a little makes it feel more like a utilization of his powers.
And gameplay-wise it adds more flexibility and skill expression, which are always good things for a character's fun factor.

Too many people look at design choices and think "oh this isn't a net postivie for the character it needs to be changed". Weaknesses in a character kit are just as important to there strengths. Orisa has very few weaknesses to her kit and unfun counterplay. This is the danger in asking for "quality of life" changes for any particular hero. If you remove the downsides to using abilities it becomes flow chart in nature and good and bad decision making is removed in the process. Everyone wants buffs nobody likes nerfs but without it the homgonized gameplay leaves a lot to be desired and people leave as a consequence.

On the other hand every time a character has polarizing strengths and weaknesses the community whines until it gets changed
Genji got his blade tuned down for his neutral game to be more consistent since people hated him being a ‘blade bot’
Hanzo lost his oneshot but no longer has inconsistent damage with the storm arrow change self explanatory
Zen is less squishy but less of a tank deleter via discord, because of community complaints
Pharah cant hover in the air infinitely anymore but has less of a horizontal mobility issue, well recieved

Queen knife has so much depth. I would live if it was the main mechanic of a new character.
You can jump cancel the Dash.
If the knife is stuck you g the full distance.
If the knife stick while you are dashing toward it you stop mod air and wait for the knife. Meaning with proper mao knowledge you can have a fzlmst return and fall right in the team. Or a long return and flat in a desired spot.
The knife is also technicaly stuck at the max flight distance. Meaning you can with proper timing fall right where you want after the knife return. And even better. Stick the knife for a split sec and then dash. Meaning youl go full distance in mid air.
You can also use all the abilities mida air. So fun.
I was doing perfectly timed axe jumpscares. Dive behind the enemies and ult toward tour team. Shoot above barrier to touche more allies. Duel paras. Follow people from really far with the knife embede in them. Dashing toward the knife, sticking someone stopping right where I wanted and then because ethe knife return the enemy get pulled back in my axe. Etc.

As a junkrat player when I read the change I was suuuper excited. Junks nades have a small knockback which has made for some pretty cool nade jump techs for him like in junkertown second point, and hearing that we could explode primary on command got me really excited since I though of the posibility of even more versatile nade jumps. Then I tried it, and realized they took the knockback away when detonated. And I got sad.
Outside of that tho, this change went for something I had wanted for the character for a while, which is making his poke more consistent and less random, by making actual use of the final explosions of the primary fire. This change seemed like the perfect chance to try it, but on practice it felt really clunky. Not only did it make me realize how buggy the final explosion hitbox is compared to the animation, but also for a character like junk that likes to prefire shots having the trigger blow up all of them AND the mine as well, made it feel bad.
I would like to see them experimenting on a way of making junks poke better and going away from the random spam. I like the ricochet mechanic, but I would like to test stuff like making nades blow up instantly in the ground instead of them making little bounce multiple times, and keeping just the wall ricochet which feels like the most fun and skillful part of the actual bounce mechanic. And it could also make for more nade jumps, which would bump skill ceiling even more, which I am absolutely down for

The Reaper change was horrendous when you really think about it. You're doing the same amount of damage as non-april fools Reaper does with one shotgun, except now you're required to shoot both. This makes it absolutely useless to shoot anything with one shotgun as 2.5 damage isn't going to kill anything whatsoever. It's also a lot more restraining to have to click both buttons at the same time while aiming, so it really doesn't work well on a character who's all about close-range macro-flicks.

    • @wumbology72
      @wumbology72 2 месяца назад +16

It really wasnt that bad, I think the math works out to 3.5% more damage and you are shooting twice as many pellets at the same speed. Both of these together are a noticable increase in consistency, though easy to say that isn't what the noob stomper himself needs.

    • @assassith
      @assassith 2 месяца назад +14

@@wumbology72 While it is technically more damage, it doesn't actually change any of his break points. 216 being his current max damage, going up to 224 wouldn't change who he could kill faster as no one else's health is that low.
I don't believe it's enough of a buff to warrant a stricter mouse grip/aiming style. Even as a noob stomper, this change would just make him even more of a niche pick when plenty of other heroes can do the same as him with less resistance.

It probably needs to be changed a bit, but some sort of wanted mechanic where you get a reward would be a cool mechanic and change the dynamic of how team play works. Personally, the Mercy change is my favorite. Sure, losing damage boost kinda sucks, but I'd argue being able to directly damage the enemies WHILE healing makes up for it. Switching between the staff and pistol is just so clunky. Being able to attack while healing makes her a lot more active, I found myself actively looking for off angles and high ground to contest, as MERCY. Using Lucio's boop for movement felt *_REEEEAALLY_* good!!!! You could use it for a rollout and added skill expression/skill ceiling since you have to face the opposite direction than the desired direction, you had to choose to use it to engage, to damage/boop an enemy, or to disengage, but it's short cooldown doesn't make this choice _terribly_ punishing or committal. (I did notice tho that I was having it off cooldown when I needed it less than usual which is new space to improve, cool!)
(Although tuning down the exact strength of the impluse applied would be good, specifically its vertical impulse is way too much but the horizontal impulse could be okay or slightly changed, both being changed equally would be fine tho, and I'd be okay if the final speed you end up at is a bit lower because of such changes or if the cooldown was increased a bit)
Also, I've been saying Lucio needs an ammo buff for years. I feel like I have to reload _constantly_ it's so annoying!! I didn't play the April Fool's patch for _that_ long so I can't comment on how good the other gun changes felt much (his gun has always been my last fav part of the hero but thats just a personal preference). _and maybe I'm just not used to it but the 3 shots on speed and 5 on heal was a heavy cognative load when playing fast and quickly switching auras back and forth- it didn't feel very good. and I feel it'd buff the braindead boring af healbot ult farm speed when needed as team playstyle that's always been so good._
His ult doing something like knockback or knockup (maybe even more knockback or even damage when landing on someone's head) was and would be super fun and pretty cool (would raise the skill floor too bc if you use it to counter an enemy's engage and it boops them towards safety then they can more easily just wait out your beat, so you need to keep in mind enemy positions and los too, not bad but worth noting.) There's not too many mass knockback/knockup ults in the game, so having one that aesthetically fits so well like Lucio would be AWESOME. Maybe the knockback could scale the higher up and/or the higher speed you use it from/with.
    Other changes quickly:
    - Junker Queen knife was super fun and would make for an awesome movement ability on a new hero (could maybe have a very minor version for herself like you were talking about but I'd rather it be a new hero's ability).
    - Ball's crabwalking did not feel good it felt weird af.
    - Cassidy having a passive like Wanted is really cool and it'd be an awesome cowboy-themed thing to give him. Maybe health is a weird reward tho- it could be damage, movement speed, attack speed/decreased recovery, reload speed, lower cooldowns, a free reload on the Wanted kill, etc there's many possibilities. They'd also wanna make the UI for it less intrusive like they did for the Ana sleep world UI indicator that made it to live. (Random thought, but maybe it could be fun and make his ult better if he had a free use of his Combat Roll during High Noon)
    - Genji's parry was kinda hard to tell when it worked but was fun to try, and I hope a new hero has a more intuitive short-time parry ability in the future that'd be fun.
    - Mei's pillar felt _really_ nice. I'd love if this came to live, although perhaps if it had less health, longer cooldown, lower duration, or was added to her Ice Wall ability (can use a button like interact to scroll between the different wall types, and maybe would have a lower cooldown when used this way. they could even add other wall types too maybe but that might be a bit much? could be fun tho)
    - Sojourn's disruptor shot slow being removed was wild to me it was designed to synergize with her rail gun, I figured they'd remove the damage but now it's kinda boring af and the name makes less sense. I like how it can be stopped just in general, and while making it an Orisa pull might be too much I'd love to see it have some other functionality suiting of it's name.
    - Widowmaker's changes seemed like really fun! Although perhaps slightly out of character for Widowmaker's personality, but maybe she lightened up a bit.
    - It'd be cool if Illari had some kind of solar power passive that have her a self-buff. Maybe when she shoots or uses abilities a bar goes up and whe its full or she ults shes overheated and buffed in a few ways? Maybe it could interact with her abilities, like using healing stuff expends the meter and using damaging stuff charges it. (maybe too many bars tho with her primary and secondary fire tho, and this is treading into Moiria/better for a new hero territory too)
    - Kiriko double jumping kinda clashes with Genji and how for him it's flavored as cybernetic enhancements and she doesn't need it, but I can't deny how good it felt..
    - Please, for the love of the gods, _*do not let the Mercy change go live*_. It genuinely felt awful/clunky and more braindead to play, very out of charcter for Mercy. it was a cool idea and maybe with lots of iteration something like it could work great for a new hero, but not Mercy. Ik Damage Boost is hard to balance, and at the same time the dynamic it creates for Mercy is really fun and should stay.
    - Zen in some capacity should be able to fly, I don't make the rules he just should.

I truly think the Junkrat one has the most potential as a concept, but the execution here isn't quite it yet.
Tying it to an ability on a short cooldown would be better provided it resets when a mine is thrown. It should also only detonate concussion mines if any are placed. If none are, it should detonate only the last grenade fired to reduce spam and make it more like a periodic skillshot.
Other things that could be cool for it would be a reduced delay and possibly the addition of a sweetspot mechanic to really increase skill expression. As it stands in the April Fools patch however, I find it lackluster.

Probably shouldn't be on Sombra, but the virus jumping after a death I think is a good mechanic that would go with Winston's tesla spread, and that Ashe spread fire from before. I think they should have a couple abilities and mechanics that de-incentivize grouping up to future proof GOATs type stuff. (also, i know a lot of people want 6v6, or even open queue, this could be a potential counter to those type of things)

Literally my favorite character from Gundam Evolution was Sazabi. I'm not sure if there was a Paladins equivalent to the hatchet pull mechanic, but seeing OW implement that change on Queen with the knife would be so cool, and they could easily make a new tank's entire dive identity revolve around this (I hope they do either).
Quick feedback note if Spilo ends up reading these: for longevity and timestamping for future viewers, it would be nice to give a verbal or screenshot acknowledgement to what the skills/changes are as you talk about them. I actually didn't have time to play or try these all week, and so for some of the skills as you gloss over them I won't know what they are unless I look the patch notes up, which will get much harder with time.

The change that I would love from an April Fool's patch was Moira having the ability to stop an orb. It would be so damn useful cause in a situation where you need healing, you throw the orb, stop it and keep it there like a health pack. And the opposite too. Where you throw a damage orb and keep it in an area creating a threat or pressure so people don't go to that area. And if a Genji deflects it. You can keep the orb from damaging your team.

I dont think both flying characters need to struggle to come down as a weakness. Echo is in the air more and is way more floaty than pharah now tho, so id say she can have that weakness. Pharah deserves to be more mobile and move around the map better. I like the idea of pharah doing better into echo cause of more movement. Her ult will still keep echo in the mix, pharah can be fast hit your shots flyer while echo is slow use many damage options flyer

Winston change is risky. For ranked it’s perfect. Biggest avg Winston complaint is enemies group and you can’t do anything but poke. It would discourage grouping. He still needs to expose himself to poke.

My personal wishlist from the april fools patch:
Dva not being able to disengage with DM facing enemies feels like an intentional design choice so I have mixed feelings on that, but it WAS fun so I’m open to trying it.
Tone down JQ’s, with or without splitting the self-pull and enemy pull onto interact and RMB, and I think it makes for a very fun ability. One thing I notice is that the self-pull is dependent on your distance from the knife; for the base game, I think the self-pull strength should be fixed.
If they keep the pharah one in any form I’d hope it’s by allowing you to fall SLIGHTLY faster by holding crouch. Something like the equivalent of 1.2-1.3x gravity.
Torb turret on walls (but not ceilings or allies) could actually be okay.
Mercy’s implementation might need some work and I’d actually ideally rather rez get replaced than damage boost (keybinds complicate this of course), but Mercy actually having a usable weapon is huge; she needs incentive to enter LoS of enemies.

I think the change I want to come to live the most is Illari's Sun Install. I feel like it goes without saying that it should happen in her Ult but I think it could even activate, like you said, for maybe like 3 to 5 seconds after her movement ability as it would make sense conceptually AND gameplay wise.
Plus it doesn't make her one shot. It doesn't make her unkillable. It doesn't give her a higher damage number outside of higher fire rate. And most importantly it's still in YOUR hands whether you get the value from it or not, because you can still just miss or not even use it.

I think the JQ changes were really fun, but agreed that on a tank it is a bit much.
If done on a DPS it could be fun and balanced however. Maybe change it a bit in terms of max range and that you need to stick it in a surface before being able to pull yourself towards it. So you can't pull yourself to your blade if it is in the air. This would require you to pre-plan a fight a bit more and makes it easier for the enemy team to predict (or hey, you can bait by faking it even , making it more interesting). I think there is a lot of potential for it, it worked nicely in arcade for JQ already since she had less HP than in role queue. It really almost felt like I was playing a DPS more than a tank and mistakes were quite easily punished.

I sincerely love april fools pharah and hope they keep it. It makes her so so fun to play, and feels like a hybrid between sojourn and doomfist, a hypermobile character about resource management, creativity with your resources, and your decision making, as you can use your mobility in a variety of ways.
It makes her feel like a truly unique character and more of what that hypermobile pharah the original devs back in the beta talked about and wanted.
I'd be okay with any compensation nerfs that she'd get in exchange, like an hp nerf,
honestly I think I'd like if they boosted the damage on her propulsion missile, so that there were more decision making between if you needed it for mobility or to help secure a kill, it's a good counter balance that fits the character while keeping her in line.
