Glad you liked it nudgers, I recorded that separately but from the same area and the same time to keep it "real" .... skylarks and crows and jackdaws mainly! I always find it quite amusing when I hear some peoples British metal detecting videos with a load of foreign birdsong in the background which doesn't feel they have thought it through! Lovely bits coming up there! I'm glad you reunited the Saxon brooch fragments. A lot scarcer than one would think. Great watching as usual, and, also great target locating. Watching people fumble around in holes looking for targets can be very tiresome. But you are bang on it 99% of the time. The Horse roll completed the video. Cheers 👍

Alexander, glorious coins and a good number as well. The brass or bronze ring, I found a good number of them on a property once. At first I thought horse tack. But after some research I found a circus used to setup there and they were from a merry go round. Where you grab the brass ring.😂 Great video as usual, I know you put allot into your videos having been a television cameraman myself…John

I have giggled through the last part of the video with your reaction to the horse. You really are scared of them. To be honest it’s best not to make friends. Last time I did that the damn horse stood on my detector and broke the bottom stem!
Told you you’d love the D2 eventually. It’s a painful transition for a few weeks (or months) but by god it’s worth it when you come out the other end! Love the Saxon brooch and the hammered coins. There must be more there once you’ve cleared the Roman dross out of the way 😉🤭

I often think it but have failed to let you know that I love your disappearing in a puff of smoke act. Also, I have to agree that the coins are nice but the artifacts are something more personal and therefore the best finds in my opinion.

So glad to see you back with the moles. Early goodies abound! And you can tell they have not used fertilizer on the ground by the pristine coins coming out. I love the mares coloring. She was almost as entertaining as Tasci.

@@HolzHammerSagasOh yes, a nice tidy bit. A couple of days to dry out, then a bit more. My smaller terrier came up with a fungus on his skin. Now idea how, but with meds, it is gone. Maybe too much rain? Clueless.

Congrats Alex, lovely day on the horses pasture! I am currently doing exactly like you, I am on horses pasture on a small roman patch, and the horses come very close putting their nose in my hole while I am digging, that's funny, but I trust them. And glad to see that you go slow now and dig everything. This kind of fields are rewarding. I my case I found maybe 10 lead pieces from tiny to big for 1 coin and not in as good condition as yours...
Well keep at it, but it sounds like you don't need me to telly you that! 😁🙏

Hi Alex it could be possible that you have discovered a Roman shrine site, there is a Roman temple complex near to me, and I have seen coins from there deliberately damaged like some of yours. The shrine could be just a convergence of paths, the top of a hill or even a sacred tree. Keep up the enthusiasm, mine hasn’t waned after 50 years. Martin

Alexander the condition of the coins are incredible in that field, You must make the detectorist from near and far envious. I watch a lot of diggers from the UK.and none can compare with your finds. Great finds. A bribe works well making friends with a horse. A carrot or a apple. I can't see her hurting you. But they'll sure step on your equipment.

Definatly not a Roman hoard. In our times we put fertilizer on our fields to yeild a good harvest of crops. Back in Roman times, coins were thrown to the grain gods in oder to gain a harvest blessing!

Hi Alexander , to try and put your finds on such a small area into context with my experience. I had permission on a shoot and was allowed to detect on a ploughed cover crop of less than 2 acres. Started up and down finding so many roman coins. Then switched from side to side.more roman coins. At this point I would like to say I detect a lot slower than yourself. I then decide diagonal left to right on the same area. Gobsmacked how much more roman stuff I found.then went diagonal right to left. Slower but then hit 3 roman brooches within 10 feet of each other. Point being for your viewers that don't metal detect, walking and swinging the detector maybe only covers 50 percent of the ground so if it is a good area 4 directions are needed to cover the area properly. The majority of my coins were found in an area 100 metres by 100 metres square and the thought from the FLO and other experts are that it was an area of cock fighting or dog fighting. The coins date from 40 ad to 370 ad. I'm sure we will never know the absolute truth of these roman hot spots but it is so exciting when you hit one. Then reality hits home when you spend 11 months digging shotgun ends and all the other crap.
Very good story and very good advice David i will take it all on board! And i agree about never knowing exactly what happened I find it very odd when you come across one very close to the edge or hedge of a field and there is absolutely nothing on the other side!!!!
