Bilbao / Basque Country. The Bilbao metro is part of the city's DNA. The network has three lines totaling 51 km and 49 stations, 29 of which are underground.
Public transport, metro, bus and tram are the best ways to get around the sublime Basque city of Bilbao in Euskadi. A train every 6 minutes during peak hours, the Bilbao metro runs at 80 km/h and provides access to the beaches of Sopela. It has been running since 1985. On the Tram side, there is only one line that connects the Atxuri station to that of La Casilla with 14 stations.
Metro Bilbao has turned into one of the most characteristic symbols of the city. Transparent structures that remind us of shells-named ‘fosteritos’ after their designer, the influential British architect Norman Foster-give access to its stations and are now recognised as a sign of the city’s architectural identity. On the inside, its bright cavernous stations perfectly combine aesthetics and architecture in an original and functional way.
Since its inauguration in 1995, Metro Bilbao has become the fastest way to move around Bilbao and its metropolitan area.
