    One thing he is doing is showing off the quality of the guitar. This type of composition allows the listener to hear the nuances of Timbre in the instrument. And this artist his excellent at playing cleanly and with emotion.

    Very happy 451 is attracting so much attention. All I can say is that while I'm playing it I feel totally immersed and enveloped by its serene beauty, apart of its brilliant 4-5-1 (note, chord, phrase) structure, so much that when I play that last "One" note I feel sad it is the end and don't know whether Johnny Cash is on my mind or some other of the zillion "One-nesses" to choose from. And maybe this is the appropriate media to uncover a little secret to the very composer of these beautifully fulfilling notes, something I've never told him before! For my birthday I always get my mailbox cluttered with that overused Star Wars phrase, but here I would like to change it into "Fourth the May be with One" :-)
    love to you all.

    Just brilliant - music is about the silences between the notes - total mastery of skill and emotion

    To jump in on the string of comments, If you don't understand this piece - you're not really listening (to the movement of the melody line). There is a very beautiful song hidden in this 'string of chords' as some said. In fact it's quite sublime. Part of the problem is that we've gotten so used to being entertained that we aren't able to just relax in the beauty of the music

      Kyle Cravens I think you can't accuse the typical viewer of gsi of the things you say, different opinions, nothing more, I don't like the piece, I respect other opinions, have a nice weekend

    • @JRCGuitarist
      @JRCGuitarist 6 лет назад

      You make a good point. Chances are people aren’t able to enjoy the piece due to expecting to see something more entertaining. The music industry has filled our lives with a lot of simulation from active live performances, television appeal, and busily composed music, that anything more simple ”lacks imagination” or ”sophistication” to those with the usual expectations. And since imagination is usually an entertainment component, it is safe to say that opinions be derived from having not been entertained by the piece. Opinions are basically unproven beliefs, which makes them easy to be nonsensical or irrational since you aren't obligated to prove them a lot of times. That's why opinions are seemingly free. You don't have to do much to have one.

    I want to add to this controversial conversation. I don't know much about Goss' output. But I can say that this piece fits very well within our era of musical contributions; within our historical musical timeline. Dukic really makes it come to life. And I know that this piece is unorthodox for the repertoire that we are used to hearing on a Ramirez. But, that is what makes this selection interesting and shows the real magic within this particular 1A. Segovia picked this one for a reason, and Dukic shows exactly why. This particular 1A is great. I know taste is subjective but I thought this particular selection by Goss was perfect.

    Such criticisms are as old as the hills. Goss's sonorities are gorgeous and meditative. And it certainly is not the least bit uncommon for a composer to quote the music of other composers and folk music. Listen to almost any Renaissance mass or motet. Many wonderful modern composers, like Goss, continue the tradition by borrowing segments from preexisting compositions.This is a great performance of a lovely piece.

      Scott Zeidel agreed! Wonderful heartfelt interpretation of a gorgeous piece of music! People seem to wear their ignorance and negativity like a badge of honor these days...

      Couldn't agree more. I think Erik Satie would have loved this piece. Less complaining, more appreciating! :)

      Kyle Cravens I was just thinking how much this piece somewhat resembles the style of Satie and Debussy. It just runs a little long in my opinion after the one minute mark. Could have added some diminished or augmented chords to change it up a bit. But beautiful still.

    • @heilwigk7741
      @heilwigk7741 6 лет назад

      Scott Zeidel That is your opinion. Another is that the man has little talent. Everything he composes or arranges rather is derivative, of Mahler, Albeniz, Chinese folk songs, Britten, Satie, Cage, etc. It lacks originality and is dull as dish water. Of course that is precisely the sort of thing that appeals, in both composotion and performance, to English sensibilities. But its imposition on the whole of the classical music panoply has been disastrous for the wider appeal of the classical guitar and classical music generally.

    • @JRCGuitarist
      @JRCGuitarist 6 лет назад +1

      Scott Zeidel I agree. Every composer is ”derivative”. Originality is quite simply taking ideas from someone else and arranging them in one’s own way with some of your own ideas. It doesn't matter where you come from or style of music. You'll hear someone's influence in any composer's work. People appear to have a mythical standard of originality, that hasn't existed for centuries, particularly the early man. And since music was initially learned by ear, usually the copying of another musician, originality has been such since ancient times.
      People who recycle the same myth-based complaints, fail to realise that their opinions are just as derivative as they say Goss’ compositions to be. How original is that? And yet, they appear to be quite comfortable in it. Maybe that is what it takes to make yourself appear to be a part of some ”elite” section of the classical culture. We can only theorise. I'm growing to ignore it little by little. Although it takes much restraint to ignore negativity.

    This is beautiful, and some of you folks commenting are total snobs. It reminds me of how dismissive the "Metal" crowd can be if a solo doesn't have 10 million notes in 15 seconds.

      kiekiek Snobs are people who have differing opinions than those who are not snobs. People who are condescending towards or are overbearing, as if their own tastes are the best or the only valid way, when it comes to music that doesn't fit a standard, are acting like snobs and should be called such.

    • @jom9352

      Heilwig K just curious, no imagination compared to great composers like you? I sense your a blocked artist that doesn’t create much, or understand music let alone the guitar and its history. Go create try and write a couple notes, then talk to us about imagination 😘
