Great car. I owned one for 6 years and drove 200,000km. I was looking for a second hand car in 2009 in South Africa but the brilliant sales lady steered me to the Cruze which surprised me with its spec for the dirt cheap price it was being sold for. I instantly loved it but took me two weeks to decide to avoid a rush decision. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. The interior felt like a premium cockpit, spacious seating front and back, big boot space and very stable and comfortable on the road. The size gave it presence while the 1.6L engine gave decent fuel economy. Had been planning to keep it longer if it wasn't for the accident with a crazy Audi TT drifter on the highway that got it written off. Unfortunately GM left South Africa so support was tricky for me to get another one. I miss that car.
I drove my cousin's Cruze LTZ and found it to be a tight, well built little sports sedan - nice looking too in that trim level. Though, for marketing purposes, Chevrolet should bump the turbo's HP to arounf 150 so that buyer's unfamiliar with torque (ie, MOST of them) will feel its worth the cost. The car should also offer, as an option, power adjustable seats. Otherwise, it's a very impressive little car.
I am leasing a 2012 Cruze LT.. prior to that I drove an Eddie Baurer V-8 Explorer. I have to admit.. I love the Cruze, not to mention that I can never remember the last time I put gas in it. Great Car!!
i think this is going to be my next car. ive looked at the civic, corolla, focus, and elantra. i like this one the best. the only thing though is that im trying to get 300,000 miles out of my car. i got 170,000 miles on it. it is in good condition and shows no sign of stopping.
@BlackDynamiteNYC You're right; Its a trade-off; the reason for the high weight is mainly for two reasons - 1. Sound dampening. Auto writers praised it. 2. The safety features - 10 air bags. It got praise for that. The turbo engine is designed for fuel efficiency, not performance; we'd like an SS version, but Chevy hasn't developed it just yet...

@BlackDynamiteNYC I'll agree on your assessment with the Camry. I think they're using something different to make the vehicle lighter; I think Toyota is using a different, lighter steel, and perhaps some carbon fiber as well. You're right; sometimes the material makes it light, but still strong.
@Jeffredo729 I really don't know how reliable Mitsubishis are. But thats how we bought our Borrego. It was a left over new of course from 2009 the only year they made them. Not sure how much my parents got off or anything it must of been a good deal since they bought it lol.
Vw diesel 42 mpg highway, cruze regular gas 42 mpg highway, todays gas price regular3.97 gal, washintion state, diesel 4.56 per gal, 4-8-12.Sell me the CRUZE !!!
@gadgetguy4000 I would take the cruze. Volkswagen dumbed down the Jetta and you would get less for your money. not to mention questionable reliability. The interior quality of the Jetta is a modern version of a Cavalier. I would recommend you look at the HyundaiElantra, Kia Forte, Mazda 3, and Ford Focus. all those cars perform well and will provide youmany years of worry free driving.
pontiacGXPfan you can get an RS package but it's only cosmetic accessories. I wouldn't mind a RS manual cruze but when I got looking you couldn't get a manual in the upper trim packages. Btw I know your comment is 5 years old lol
I really like the look of the Cruze i wish they made a manual for the diesel. At the end of the day VW Passat TDI will probably be my next car though. GM is starting to wake up a little bit finally!
@jakkaroo1 nice. So you dont even know what your truck has. Here's Your Post " what does 1100ftllbs of torque and 500hp sound like." Sounds like 50 more hp than you said and 230 lb-tq Less than You said. And Brakes dont " Combust " also like you said. i have a Chevy Cruze. BEST car i have ever bought! it is fantastic
now, after 5-10 years Cruze sucks
Got to briefly drive this car, and I was impressed. Definitely a car I'd look into if I was in the market for a new car.
Like a car with a little more weight here in Canada. We get alot of snow. The Cruze feels alot more stable and still gets great fuel economy

It's about time America produced a GOOD, economy car that doesn't feel like a total joke compared to a Honda, Nissan or KIA.
They had one. The Neon
Braking : If you get the all-disc brake option (Standard in LTZ) -- distance go at around 119 ft.

Problem is in most parts of the US, diesel is a good 30-40 cents more expensive a gallon then regular unleaded.
The Cruise is a terrific sedan. If I were in the market for a sedan, I would buy the cruise in an instant!
I hear it gets engine problems the closer you get to 200,000 miles. Is that true or do you just need to take good care of it?
Pass, I had a Chevy Cobalt 5 speed eco tech, it was great. This time I went for a 2015 Dodge Dart GT with a 2.4 and 6 speed manuel!!
