I believe, in this song he is pointing out random things that allow him to take his mind off of stressful/traumatic times. Things that allow him to escape mentally.
@@dustygatrell-ru7tg It says he doesn't want to learn about anything that could harm him in the future, or to set boundaries for this harm. When entering in any agreement, any relationship, there is a chance of failure. As we grow older and wiser, we calculate in general what the impact is with self-preservation as the key determinator. When Audioslave came out I thought it was so cool because Rage Against The Machine was a great band with a unique sound and Chris Cornell was an amazing songwriter who also had a sound of his own but Audioslave didn't sound like anything any of them had done in the past. It really was something new and exciting that didn't remind me of anything
It took me a while to get used to the sound of audioslave.. I always thought that his voice didn't match the band, but I eventually I got used to it, and their songs became hit and miss, even tho I bought their first 2 albums,.. and then when he died,.. bruh, that killed me so bad😢
Its hard to believe that CC is no longer with us. He is the best rock vocalist that’s ever been. Soundgarden are nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. I hope they will finally get their flowers. I love this song. This was a great choice y’all. Thank you.
I agree that it is about how hard it is to deal with lose, especially a parent. How the mom and the kids are seeking something new to distract themselves from the pain. It is a great song and a sad song all in one. A hallmark of many Chris Cornell songs.
5:33 in the morning East Coast time it only 82 comments about one of the greatest voices we have ever heard how disappointing so many people can't be appreciative. Chris Cornell's voice has to be the greatest voice over the last 30 years
I can't pick best vocals for Chris Cornell because his lyrics and voice are uniquely wrapped around each song he performs. "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart" is another gem by Chris Cornell, you might want to check out.
Great reaction Brad. I honestly don’t know if you’re right but it makes sense.. I had never been able to “just hear” the words to make sense of the song so thank you
It is about reliving past experiences but through, "new born," eyes. Memories that do remind you of things that once caused you pain can be viewed through a new perspective to remind you of something new, or in relation to the past, "nothing at all."
The end of the chorus IMHO basically encapsulates the meaning of the song, "I don't want to learn what I'll need to forget." Why would you even want to know about the things that will cause you trauma if you'll just end up trying to forget them to keep yourself sane?...It's actually a very deep existential question...the same asked by Hamlet in the famous, "To be, or not to be" soliloquy...do we confront the troubles of the world, even though they may bring us down in the process? Or do we give up and "Sleep" or live in ignorant bliss...
Lex is bang on with this, It's not a literal reminder it's a sentimental reminder of his past, so for exmaple, travelling to a new place that you've never been to, won't make you reminisce about the past cause it's a whole new experience therefore not reminding you of anything. And yes Brad did make the same point in the end kinda lol
Some context about the music video: It's about a boy (and his family) whose father was a fighter pilot. The father died in a war, and there was a funeral. The boy is trying to cope with his loss, and is venting his anger by focusing on boxing. You can see him playing with planes, and later throwing away those planes and even ripping off a poster of Uncle Sam. Like @newharlemrenaissanceproduc943 said, its about doing random things to distract himself of those emotions.
He's just kind of naming things that don't dredge up painful memories. He's talking about avoidance, running away from pain rather than dealing with it properly.
I always thought the song was him naming things that takes his mind off things. He was going through a lot with addiction and other issues, and stuff like this helps him take his mind off negative shit.
"Two women massaging each others feet.. like scissoring" ... on that note, check out the band Scissor Sisters and their song "Take Your Mama" or "I Dont Feel Like Dancing".
He's describing moments that are new to him, hence why they don't remind him of anything. In other words, he is embracing life rather than looking backwards.
2:38. It’s his way of saying that remembering anything is abject pain and anguish. Edit. There are parallels between many of his songs in this. Every single song he had is either him conquering his self rejection, or his succumbing to his un-alive-ing. (Wow, the internet really wants people to not kill themself)[how could extreme money hoarding, profit hungry corporations exist without slave labor?]
Focusing just on the song, without the video coloring it, it's about an older man doing the opposite things he did in his younger years, because it literally doesn't remind him of anything. No baggage. Think about the opposites of the things he's saying and it makes sense, at least to me, especially when you think about who Audioslave were as a band
Y'all should listen to "whitch" by a small psychedelic band called "ora" they only realeased one album and it's selling for over 1500$ it's a cool acid rock style like cream and Jimi Hendrix
Although it is a lot of things, there are certain things that pertains to each one us. Not ALL of these things have to pertain to ALL of us. Just enough to understand what he's singing about.
It doesn’t remind him of anything because people don’t drive backwards in the fog things he’s mentioning people don’t know he doesn’t do so there’s no remembrance of it so he does it because there’s no remember him saying
Everything he claims that " dosnt remind him " if you notice are all innocent or vary child like things , things kids would consider new and exciting like hammering nails or studying faces in parking lots " the kid in the music video is forced to rush threw childhood and be a man do to his dads death . He's struggling to stay innocent while also trying to be a man and forget about trauma all three things at once . That's why I love Tom's guitar break down solo .like the kid is finally loosing it mentally and just explodes in the ring but realizes at the end after all is said and done . He just wants to be a kid and move on .
Maybe it's like doing something to distract you from your thoughts. So whatever you pick to do, shouldn't remind you of what you're not trying to think of.
The point is that there are clearly things he desperately doesn’t want to remember and so, he seeks distraction and anything that stops him remembering past events/people etc.
Of course, you probably know this band is the rage against the machine. The singer is from Soundgarden. You need to listen to Soundgarden completely original great group before this man killed himself him and rage against the machines bad got together and that’s what you’re hearing now.
