Outside of it not flipping it’s nice. And as I’ve said I’m sure it can be taken apart, remove the heavy marine grease, lube it up properly and it will make an excellent carry.
Laguiole make fixed blades for that purpose. And even if a steakhouse is using folding knives, they aren’t storing them in someone’s pocket when not in use…

Many kind thanks for an awesome, unbiased and honest review (as always) Dirk buddy. What I find astounding is with the length of time that MKT has been in operation and with all of their super high-tech equipment, and crazy tolerances, they are unable to deliver a brand-new flipper knife to the market, that actually flips without the need of additional wrist movement. If the knife is indeed on bearings, it should flip flawlessly and without issue. Bearings do not need to be broken in. Now, because it doesn’t flip, this leads me to thinking it is possibly a design flaw, where the geometry is potentially off. I think of my cheap knives, such as Twosun, CRKT, Benchmade, and Kershaw all costing a mere fraction of an MKT, and yet they all flip flawlessly EVERY TIME!!! While I am writing this, I am flipping my Hoback War Horse, and I can’t get the deployment to fail, no matter how softly I hit the flipper tab.
To be fair it looks like you’re intentionally failing the flipper action at 1:33 and that’s kinda petty. I can fail any flipper if I try, and you look like you were giving it just enough pressure to pop it out of the detent but not enough to open the blade.
@@Ben4reel we’re all entitled to our own opinions. A well tuned $600+ knife should not be able to be failed regardless. I just went through several of my knives and was unable to fail most of them in price ranges from $50 to $5000. Soooo I stand behind my statement and my video.

I have had a couple Medfords, still have one, and although I like the ones I've had quite a bit, the flipping action is crap, for lack of a more accurately descriptive word. Something , in my opinion, that no knife, let alone an expensive one, should suffer from, if it has a flipper tab at all.

Nice review. Have had this same issue with several Medford faux flippers. Ridiculous. Have to pick Medfords carefully. Their flippers are a non-starter.
I’ve handled a variety of Medford’s and there’s only one model that I came across actually flipped decently. Their action is atrocious for most of their knives IMO.
That’s could absolutely be the case and it’s a one off issue. But that’s the only thing I can go by is the example of a brand new knife right out of the box 🤷🏼♂️

@@DirkWerning yeah near the beginning when he started talking about the handle material, you said aluminum and then you corrected yourself to Titanium and I almost lost my breakfast! I was all in on Medford - bought several and then they discontinued the Midi Marauder - my favorite Medford and then I ordered a Praetorian Ti (over $1,300) during the coin promotion - it’s being built and a month after I ordered, he discontinued the Praetorian line leaving me with no Medford’s I wish to buy… this explains why I now have 18 Microtechs and the new Ultratech will have every upgrade with zero blade play for about $40 more - Microtech is listening and delivering serious, game changing upgrades and improvements and that’s where my money is going.
Lol. If you want an assisted opening flipper they make for pansys. Go buy an assisted flipper. The one you used to compare is assisted. This shits not rocket science. Do you know anything about knives?
First off the Kubey I used to compare is NOT an assisted opening knife. And no I don’t know much about knives, only have close to 2500 videos up on my channel now. Medfords are ridiculously overrated. I remember watching the interview where he talks about the tolerances like it's some amazing thing. Yet every flipper i own works better than that. From way cheaper to more expensive than that.
You are 💯💯💯 correct. Every flipper from MKT I’ve ever owned has not flipped without wrist. The other knives are pretty solid but yes generally overpriced and over hyped for sure.
I do try to show all the knives. The good the bad and sometimes the ugly. I often show knives I don’t personally like because what we like is personal and so wine else might love it. Yes the detent could be better but I also think the ‘grease’ they use at the factory is really thick and just might not allow the bearings to really ‘work’. The owner will be taking it apart and cleaning it all up and ‘tuning’ to his preferences and I’m sure he’ll get it dialed in just right.
