    This actually makes sense. The whole time I was in the Army we never used gyms. We just ran a lot, did lots of push ups, sit ups, and pull ups. I was in the best shape of my life. When people tell me they feel like they need to join a gym, I think it's amusing. Just get out and do it. It costs nothing to run 2 miles in your neighborhood each day. Actually, I found $5 on one of my jogs, so you can even make money at times.

      Jodin Dunbar it does make sense when you think about it. I agree. Semi Static gym movements like bicep curls seem obsolete when your main goal is to be a functional human. They are good for rehab though so horses for courses.
      Good health to all.

      I think you're wrong. Calisthenics only translate to movements that don't require force over external objects. If you wanna exert force over external objects like a log 1:33 or your opponent 1:57 you should USE WEIGHTS . You don't need to go to a gym tho , I used to do Stiff Leg Deadlifts with bags of rice

    Hello. As a wheelchair user since I was born I find this truly amazing and inspiring. Everybody should move the way he or she can even if the people around you find it ridicilous. I find it really sad that people do not use their full range of motion or they do not appreciatiate the fact that they can move relatively freely.

      Having served in the Military, i find the way modern society has turned deeply concerning, i almost feel trapped, in an abstract world of odd responsibilties, at least in the military you volunteered to be told what to do, civvy street is a strange place, we wonder around like zombies, when i reconnect with the wild places, such as climbing, wild running, or just listening to the waves crash on the rocks at the beach, there is this overwhelming feeling that this is where we should be, not slumped at an office desk missing our life, i know we have to work in this world, but where is the balance?

    Yeah right, I can also run through the woods blindfolded or levitate & on top of that my body is able to not require food for a whole year :D.
    More seriously, true my heart rate used to be 32-35 in the morning, but that's when I was training endurance more specifically which is not the case at the moment.
    Again I am not doing what I do so people look up to me but to inspire people to start inspiring themselves.

    @MovNat "The edge is so wide it doesn't affect your balance." How about the unevenness of the surface, the nice fall waiting if you take one misstep, or the incredible sureness of foot to even THINK about making that run? The sheer natural athleticism on display in this video is astounding. The training MovNat has shown me coupled with a lot of other work also designed to make myself a better athlete and not just tennis player makes me train with no limits and test myself as much as possible!

    @valgez you can totally mess up with your body using conventional gym equipment such as barbells too!
    It is knowing what you do that is key to safety, not trying to remove difficulty or risk. Skill, experience, but also scalability, moderation or pure common sense is what makes a difference between a movement or action that is safe...or not.
    Things are what they are, it is your action in relation to those things that generate efficiency and performance or failure and injury.

    As an organic farmer, I’ve long considered offering a very interesting workout programme for natural health advocates. It involves all muscle groups, and will also sharpen problem solving and reflex abilities. Workouts include shovelling manure, emptying moving livestock water tanks, digging post holes and repairing fences, cutting, trimming and stacking downed trees, driving cattle to new pastures, sorting, tagging and castrating calves, hoeing and pulling giant weeds, rolling bales of hay to the cattle, etc. It’s much better (and more interesting) than any gym or other contrived exercise programme. Let me know what you think a monthly subscription to this programme is worth?

    @valgez I went to Erwan's workshop. He is not wasting his time. As a matter of fact, people from NASA were crowding in to hear his lecture. Only the people who continue to stay close minded and scared to do something different than what they do everyday are the ones who will not evolve into something better. I truly enjoyed his workshop, and every muscle in my body hurt for a few days after. Not just one or two muscles like when I went to the gym. I mean EVERY muscle. Erwan, keep it up!!!

    Moving in nature is adaptive in essence. It means that when you run, you will have to adapt your posture, stride, rhythm, speed etc...depending on your environment. Ideally when running, you don't want to "head chase", or your back to be rounded, or to overstride, or swing your arms more that needed and many more aspects that are not good for efficiency...until the terrain dictates otherwise and you have to do all these things to be effective and safe.

    Both are about moving in a way that is efficient, regardless of where you find yourself, but it is true that there is more emphasis on natural environments in MovNat and urban environments in Parkour. The other difference is that MovNat will also involve techniques in swimming, manipulative skills (lifting, carrying, throwing and catching) and combative skills (striking, grappling), which makes it a more comprehensive practice. Last, the coaching system is different.

    Wonderful! Inspiring! I always hated sports, to do or watch - most Americans think I'm crazy. I've been completely sedentary and inactive for years. Was recently in the Sierra Nevada mountains with my son - climbed over huge rocks, crab-walked down steep mountain to keep from falling, balanced on logs to cross streams, hiked, climbed to the top of a 610 ft. waterfall - LOVED IT ALL! After seeing your videos, now I see why. I am a 64 yr. old female. Thanks! I'll try to find a workshop.

    I definitely believe that a MovNat approach to daily training would benefit everyone.
    A friend of mine, and myself, found generic gyms to be quite monotonous, and started doing some simple parkour both in urban environments, and in forests and other places that are unscathed by industry.
    It has definitely improved my view on exercise.

  • @MovNat
    @MovNat  15 лет назад

    Nice feedback. There are many MovNat drills that are very beneficial for grapplers, especially tree/bar climbing variations.
    You can see some of them in this very video, however and again, this video shows some aspects of MovNat training in nature and does not show or explain anything about the coaching method. MovNat is not just or only going in nature and exploring movement randomly, there is much more to it!

  • @MovNat

    The "True Nature" philosophy does not go against the modern world and technologies, but invites us to reconnect to the nature in ourselves, starting with natural movement.
    It is not about being "against" but about being "for".
    It is not a "cons" but a "pros" attitude.
    Always keeping it positive and constructive!

  • @MovNat
    @MovNat  15 лет назад

It is fully scalable, means that it is accessible to all beginners.

    I can't speak for anyone associated with MovNat, but from what I understand, this is about moving in ways that are specific to humans, and adapting your movement to the environment, which for you, might be cold and snowy. Don't be discouraged. Be creative. Think about how you can move. Run, lift, carry, crawl, climb, maybe swim. This can even be practiced indoors too, not just in nature. Check out more of their videos.

  • @MovNat
    @MovNat  15 лет назад

    People that don't need (or believe they don't) such a natural movement education have entire freedom to move or exercise in nature exactly the way they want, but should also consider the many people that are very out of shape, or don't have similar natural abilities, often don't have the same level of self-confidence or maybe the same amount of free time and the necessity to provide a rational and effective coaching system for them to learn how to move naturally, efficiently and safely again.

    The military physical instruction is not designed to instruct you but to break you. You don't learn movement efficiency or injury-prevention, because to the hierarchy recruits are like disposable things, when they break, they can be changed easily. Hence a massive injury-rate in the ranks and significant or chronic use of painkillers and/or performance enhancers to cope with such a short-term approach.
    MovNat teaches how to move intelligently and to last.

    @tarunramesh you can train practically anywhere, outdoors, indoors, in a gym, in a hotel, in your bedroom, in a basement, in a city, in a park. This is what I do. I do not live where this video was filmed. It is not beautiful nature you need most, but to express the beautiful nature that lies within yourself. Moving naturally is all about that. MovNat is all about that. Where you move is not as important as how you move.

    Instructional DVDs will be available in the near future to help people get started with their own MovNat training, but based on solid techniques and principles instead of a random exploration.

    @MovementIdeas1 It depends on your physical state. In any case, the difficulty of most movements can be scaled down in order to fit your individual possibilities or limitations. Same goes in any physical activity.

    @forgalzz7 There is much more than just that that is missing actually, as this video is not designed to display the full spectrum of natural movement variations, techniques or drills (that would make a several hours videos).

    Wouldn't say the "world" has forgotten, just a specific group of us. There are plenty of inspirational natives, people, animals, who live their lives this way around the world. Well thanks for introducing Survival International in one of your posts! Also it'd be super to form stronger Local communities with nature connection and have festivals regularly etc.

    Awesome video. Being a traceur, I do very similar excercises but usually in an urban environment. I've always been a nature lover though so this is really just beautiful. The life I dream of living.

    @BayAreaBum Humans are not supposed to be chubby or even obese. It is not a matter of genetics, it is a matter of lifestyle (epigenetics). However the real goal of MovNat is not to get ripped, but to be able to move in all practical ways, and to adapt your movement to your environment. Getting ripped is not the finality, but the natural outcome of a lifestyle that combines proper movement, proper diet, proper sleep and other also takes into account other life patterns.

    @SimonLy90 In the case of a fighting technique, it is still the natural ability of defending oneself, but with an acquired efficiency instead of a purely instinctive reaction.
    None of us are born with fully developed movement abilities, it is a process, and every skill can be improved by practice or conscious endeavor. It has been the case in humans for a very, very long time.

    I'm already doing some of this at Mission Bay Park with the pull-up bars, turf, and a few kettlebells and martial art weapons.

    Imagine if one of your leg muscles forcibly seized up right when you're swimming at your limit of the ocean depths only to find out too late that your too deep for only utilizing one leg and before you know it you're dead. It can happen when you don't consume enough magnesium and it's especially common in athletes who participate in high intensity protocols.

      This would be natural. Humanity became civilised and forgot the 2 millions years before. And the thing you're describing happens when you consume to much sugar. Natural food contains a lot of magnesium...

    @Unkalen I think it's just a simulation of how we didn't have bridges if we wanted to cross a river we had to put a log across the river. So he's balancing on a precarious ledge, like, our ancestors had to.
