A behind the scenes look at the creation of Sid the Science Kid.
Imagine your dad telling you to walk through a wall and you discover your entire existence is a puppeteer’s work. I watched this as a kid and seeing this years after is still mortifying.

I think it's because Sid's parents didn't want to help him get through his trauma, and instead they took the easy way out.

I remember seeing this as a kid and going the kid version of wtf. Looking back the animators probs just made a storyboard jam to vent their frustrations with a task and someone was like wait we could probably just get this through the sensors and be done with this.
His parents seem very accepting to the fact they aren't in control of any of their actions.

Why would the animators have to explain to him everytime?
I like how his parents willingly allowed him to realize his life is almost completely without meaning, and nothing Sid does will ever truly be his own actions. Then proceeded to wear cool shades and completely erase his memory.
the shades are meant to stop themselves getting memory wiped too, and make them look cool in the act

Notice how Sid started off very excited and curious about what is going on but as it got deeper and deeper he lost all interest. This is weird since Sid is supposed to be a character who wants to learn, but he is a child, when all the magic gets exposed to just being a bunch of technology and boring code he loses it. His parents literally had to wipe his memory just so he can retain his childlike innocence. Quite weird you can get a deep view on modern day life from a mediocre children's cartoon show.

Imagine an episode where Sid learns about everything. Every math question, every facility in existence, and the full name of the viewer themselves. Sid would be an unstoppable force and no one can reach his IQ level

he feels so loved despite being a series of 0s & 1s. that’s sorta a first of non-threatening artificial intelligence
This moment is kind of dark if you think about it: at first Sid is very confused anout what are those people doing and why do they look different to the people of his world, later he gets amazed how they could replicate him, but slowdly realizes that he is nothing but a digital puppet and a fake person whose existence is from people replicating him and all of his relatives.
So when Sid escapes, he looks clearly scared and panicked and wants to forget his real origin and existance.
Imagine our world is similar to Sid's world and we don't have control over our actions either. 😱
A quick explanation: This was an actual video that was posted on the Jim Henson youtube channel that explains how the show is made, they deleted it in 2017, likely because of how weird it is. It is scary how this was actually made by the Jim Henson company, considering the video’s bizarre nature.

In a way, it kind of was. The joke at the start of the episode was that this was a sexual innuendo. The parents getting all awkward, when Sid asked where he came from could have been interpereted as a double-meaning. Either they could have been acting strange because Sid just asked the ultimate question about the other side of the fourth wall or they're nervous because they have to explain sex to their 5-year-old kid.
My childhood is ruined, As a 15 year old I always loved this show and after finding this, This episode is oddly dark like bruh especially the ending 😭 Thank goodness they didn't air this

This cartoon came out when I was already in high school I remember my brother really liking the show at the time I think he was around four anyways I’m so glad this was never aired because not only did I get creeped out even though Im a grown woman the way it was executed it was so different from the actual show that it would have thrown off the kids I think...and gave some nightmares...Sid looked extremely uncomfortable...that part made me cringe too...

I never seen this as a young child when I was constantly watching Sid the Science Kid, and it was probably the best that I didn't.... this is funny to see years later.
I never seen Sid be less curious in the entire run of the show, seeing him slowly get more awkward and then fully terrifed is truly..... I don't know how to say it but it felt like my entire was warped and altered with.... This was the funniest way to do a behind-the-scenes video.

Putting aside how creepy and sexually-suggestive this is, I would just like to point out the fact that they made an animation error from one of their episodes canon and turned it into a very important plotpoint of the episode and overall series lore is just hilarious to me.

I only watched maybe like 10 episodes of Sid the Science Kid when I was a kid myself, but this episode is some uncanny valley for a children's show! I never even knew it existed until today. The creepiest part for me was when Sid started getting weirded out himself and then his parents just casually go all Men In Black on him. Like wtf...

When I see the SSK (Sid the science kid) logo, It gave me some sadness, because in my childhood, when an episode of this series ended, I had to wait until the other weekend to see it...

Like from how his parents were acting at the beginning, I thought it would be this obviously banned episode of Sid getting the talk and he would get all grossed out and stuff, but no. its because its a childrens show, and he slowly comes to the realization that he isnt even real which sends him through a mental crisis. then his parents just wipe his memory, which when you think about it means they've likely done this multiple times. keep in mind this is a show for toddlers, and not meant for comedy (an educational program) this would definitely disturb a child seeing one of their favorite characters in so much distress.
