People keep saying "LUL BRONCO RAPTOR WILL BE BETTER THAN 392 WRANGLER" not seeming to understand that the 392 Wrangler is nowhere near it's potential final form and we know for a fact that Ford's never going to V8 the Bronco. @@bonzobonanza The Pacifica is a transverse FWD platform. The engine bay cannot fit the SRT engine, transversely or longitudinally, without serious modifications. If they did it longitudinally, in addition to significantly enlarging the engine bay, there would need to be serious interior changes to accommodate a RWD transmission and driveshaft. If they mounted it transversely, that would still be way too much power for a FWD car, even haldex style AWD, FWD transmissions, and CV joints. Every other car they put the SRT engine in could handle its size and power without significant modification. It wouldn't be worth it to make all those changes just to sell 5-10k cars at most.
Totally agree on the Challenger. With it’s actually large rear seats too… it’s beyond obvious that it’d work well. If they had a convertible SRT or hellcat, I’d be on that like white on rice .

Agreed definitely, but with that much power could you actually make one, would the frame as it is take the loss of rigidity. Without being a completely new car. Obviously you can make a convertible out of anything, throwing stacks of hundred dollar bills at it gets it done. Just at 1000hp actually launching it. Does it hold

WRX wagon does exist, but not in USA, it is called Levorg and sold mostly in Japan and Australia (Also sold in EU so left hand version was made as well). Levorg was the WRX wagon version since the separation of Impreza and WRX/STI names, and the gen 2 was recently released in Japan, Fun Fact: Gen 2 is sold without the body cladding of the new WRX!
VW has a Van like the Sprinter, called the VW Crafter. There even is a camper van version of it called the Grand California, but its only sold in Europe.
The Ford Maverick should be offered in a regular cab with a longer bed. This would make an excellent fleet vehicle or work truck for many different types of small businesses, like handymen, pool guys, pest control, window washers, etc. I'm a handyman, and that type of small fuel efficient truck would be perfect.
12:50 I think that is the Rav4 Prime. It is more expensive but considering how popular it is and how high the demand is, it's become the SUV equivalent of a Prius.
Also, considering the fact that Toyota has a hybrid version of almost every car and SUV they sell, a Prius SUV just doesn’t make sense. The Venza (which is hybrid only) takes the Prius SUV’s spot.
I have looked at two Toyota dealers and can't find a Prius for sale. I was quite interested in the new Corolla but as soon as I sat in it it was "Oh Dear". Unlike my Golf it was designed for 5ft6" Japanese.
The VW Van is totally common in Europe, it's called the VW Multivan, some say Bulli or just VW Bus. T7 is the newest model from 2022 and its used for a lot of different things like camping, driving big families around (has 7 Seats), transporting wheelchairs, delivering mail or as work truck. There are plenty of them in all variations and they are very popular (especially the older ones). There is also a Sprinter-like vehicle called the VW Crafter, but that's for commercial use only. The smaller version is called Caddy, it's as popular as the Multivan and also used for all kind of stuff.
Correct and you see them everywhere too. Especially westfalias California versions. They cost a lot like 60-80k fully equipped but 10 years old vans are still selling for 60k... Maybe the engine is the issue? They are all diesel here and VW may not have a gas version powerful and durable enough...
Exactly! VW vans are absolutely huge here in the UK, everyone has them. They also have plenty of campervan variants as well, and generally the value of the vehicle keeps very well compared to others. I'm not sure what he's talking about exactly, just a quick google search for 'VW vans' will show you a lot of results. Now the fact that VW doesn't sell them in the US is a different matter. They're a big corporation and have a lot of business considerations that may be affecting this.
For anyone eyeing the 2023 release of the ID.Buzz van, one often-overlooked piece of info is that the 2023 release will be a much shorter van than the 2025 release which brings a longer cabin to accommodate a 3rd row (or whatever camper interiors they might offer). I can't believe they're going to come to market with a 2 row minivan. It makes no sense.
@@mikefarrington7141 especially makes no sense after they discontinued the Sharan although that one could be ordered as a 3 row, it wasn"t standard but then again, even the Touran can be ordered as a 3 row, though it"s not recommended since that"s Golf sized, just higher
I just mentioned to a buddy a few days ago that Dodge needs to make a new generation of the Magnum with a Hellcat option. Take advantage of the hot wagon market.
I had a mag when they first came out. Modernizing one of those would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥 but damn if i didnt meet the entire local police department 🥵 crazy cops never botherer me in my tinted out tahoe…but the magnum was too hot for me
Volkswagen has made a van every single year since the 60s. The last 20 years they have made really good ones that I have loved to drive. I understand from your video that it hasn’t been in the US market, but that’s only one country, although a big market. I’m sure Doug knows he has viewers from Europe.
That is because the Mercedes Sprinter is smaller than most American cars :-) It is amusing on Cars and Bids to see Americans getting all excited about vehicles like the Toyota HiAce that businesses couldn't wait to replace with VWs and Transits here in Europe when they saw the crash test results.
Actually, since the 50s. If Toyota brings the Land Cruiser back to the US and Canada, they ought to offer the optional camper version that they have in Australia. That and possibly import the Toyota HiAce to North America. Also, even though I've repeated this on numerous occasions, the last Mercury Grand Marquis should've had an additional Turnpike Cruiser version, and I mean with the Breezeway Backlight.
16 minutes is long form? Sitcoms are 16 minutes plus commercials. I’m not hating on Doug, but how is 16 minutes long form? Honest question, not trying to be shitty.
This may just be hearsay, but I remember reading a while back that the reason Dodge never made a convertible is because the LX platform just wasn't designed for a convertible and doesn't have the rigidity suitable for the lack of a roof. I know I've seen these conversion kits, but maybe it came down to frame warping over long term use or poor crash test results. I'm willing to bet the next generation is going to have a convertible option.
This is correct. The LX platform was originally designed as a 4 door platform for the Charger and the 300. Even just shortening the wheelbase and removing the B pillar required a bunch of extra strengthening and redesign. The Challenger is a uniquely bad candidate for turning into a convertible. Also, this is one of the reasons they focus of straightline performance. The chassis isn't well suited for road course racing.
I can’t imagine the riot to be had with a Civic Type R engine in a modern S2K. I know it goes against the high reving NA legacy, but it’d be the fastest roaster on the market under $50k
Another thing regarding the WRX wagon-the Levorg already exists in other markets and is literally an Impreza wagon, I don’t see why Subaru can’t just bring it to the states already

They added 213 lbs to the convertible model vs the coupe... want to guess why? Because they had to brace the chasis so much. But you must be a automotive engineer so you know better than Chevy.
Still just waiting for the first fully electric minivan. The size of the minivan can easily fit a huge battery and there are plenty of people who would want one since it gives you range, cargo space, and comfort.
As soon as one exists, I'll own one. I love my Odyssey, but our Model 3 has opened my eyes to how comfortable an EV is, and it would be perfect for my family, even with current battery ranges.

Hey Doug, love your channel! On the VW Van topic, they did sell a modern minivan from 2009 to 2014. It was a rebadged Dodge Caravan which is a shit platform, but it was sold as the VW Routan. But no true VW van has existed since the Eurovan.
It was fun listening to this... I bought an MX-5 since neither the BRZ/86 made a convertible or Honda hadn't brought back the S2000! That's a missed opportunity by both companies.
You're totally right. Honda should make a S2000 succesor TODAY. I don't know if it'll bring a ton of money, but Honda needs the attention back from a lot of enthusiasts.
I completely disagree. Jeep has enough "jeeps" that share those shitty fiat platform and they don't need another one. If jeep brings back the Comanche name it needs to actually be capable off road and be a new jeep chassis with jeep off road capabilities. Not a fiat chassis with fiat off road capabilities tweeked a little bit by jeep like vehicles such as the cherokee, compass, and renegade. Plus they'd throw that unreliable shitty 2.4 fiat engine in there which isn't good for anything but breaking.
@@jacobearhart4170 i don't disagree that it would be a terrible vehicle if they did bring it back; the current Cherokee is a sad attempt at continuing the legacy of the XJ. However from a sales perspective, I think they could only benefit from it because people have an unnecessary obsession with having a truck/SUV when they really need a minivan or wagon.
They made the Comanche concept based on the small wide 4x4 platform that underpins the Compass, Renegade and Fiat 500x. They basically just took a Renegade, chopped off everything behind the front row seats extended the platform and added a truck bed and soft top, lifted it up and put it on I think 31 inch tires. It was a pretty cool truck and I'd hoped a glimpse into future plans from Jeep/Stellantis but it seems to have fizzled. Maybe with the success of the Maverick they might reconsider, I like my Renegade but I'd sure like it a lot more with a short truck bed on the back and 31 inch tires under it.
You brought up the Element and I think there is a HUGE missed opportunity there. If Honda brought back the element with some actual offroad capabilities in the same small utilitarian package, they would sell like nuts. I know multiple outdoorsy people who still have their old 1st gen elements and refuse to sell them because there's nothing else out there like that.

Safety reasons is one thing. The Challenger is the heavier of the cars. A Hellcat convertible would be 5000 pounds by the time enough reinforcing was done. The roof is an important structural part and making a car without it that's no designed to be done can be a big hurdle.
@@techseth Not the same. People will still prefer the Raptor or TRX over a slightly beefed up Silverado with the same engine. GM would basically be printing money if they put the LT5 in a pickup.
One that I haven't seen mentioned but has been on the minds of every modern muscle car fan.... A reincarnated Dodge Magnum with a hellcat variant. This cat could be an RS6 Avant /E63 wagon contender while under cutting them on price and beating them in power figures. I know there would be a niche market for them but they would sellout and become collectors item.
What I would want is a four-door convertible and which is genuinely comfortable for 2-3 people in the backseat. I think the new skateboard EV platforms can make this a reality without the shortcomings of the rare attempts of the past at such cars.
I agree, although Donut Media already does this with their "up to speed" series, so it might not be a great idea. having doug discuss things like that would be pretty awesome for sure though!
They also need to make the Honda Element again. Wildly popular on the used car market. They're also very popular for van life conversions. They would kill nowadays. Also please do a video on Honda Elements. They're so quirky!
I strongly believe that Ford should bring back the Excursion. The Super Duty trucks sell very well and the Excursion has recently spiked in popularity. I see a new Excursion selling very well.
I 100% agree, older 7.3 excursions are now worth their weight in gold and I think if using the same exact formula of taking a super duty and putting a rear on it and some seats back there, it would quite quickly become one of fords best selling models. The main reason being since the excursion last left us, we haven’t gotten any big family haulers that could also haul something like a big camper or a car trailer very easily
My dream has always been for a car brand should just make 1990s and early 2000s style cars that have all analog buttons and naturally aspirated engines. But I know that wouldn’t sell very well
I agree with literally every single one of these, they are all strangely absent and could definitely have a business case behind them given the auto market we are in. With the exception of the SRT Pacifica, but that doesn't matter. I want it more than almost anything on this list.
No one wants a fwd based ‘el camino’. Rwd w/ a high output v6 and optional V8 yes. Id have no problem resurrecting ‘S10’ for what youre suggesting, though.
Out of any automaker, I would love to see the return of Pontiac. "Firebird" is searched on Google more than the Camaro, Challenger, Charger, and Mustang within the past year, which is absolutely astonishing. Granted, it's not by much (some by as little as 2 or 4 searches), it's still crazy to see considering it's been gone for 20 years.
@@weatherwarriormedia I agree, also Oldsmobile, SAAB, Saturn, the ones that they killed off. And also bring other the rest of the Buick lineup over to the US again.
I got one. Back when VW was cancelling the Beetle there were rumors they were going to make a 4 door SUV version of the Beetle, sort of like the Mini Countryman. And I don’t know why VW didn’t. It would have been massively popular. Instead we get the Taos, this weird CUV that looks like a Tiguan hit by a shrink ray.

If I remember correctly, Dodge was going to do a convertible of the Challenger in year 2 or 3, but the recession and bail out put that on the shelves. With that said, kind of figured that would have been resurrected once things recovered, but maybe the sales are strong enough without a convertible.
when toyota has already several hybrid SUVs, it feels kinda strange to bring out yet another car that’s only marginally different than existing ones. The Rav4 hybrid can already get over 40 mpg, which is only slightly worse than the Prius V due to its size. A Prius SUV would have almost nothing to offer over a Rav4 other than name.
For the past few years I've thought that Chrystler needs to give the 300 the Hellcat/SRT treatment. The newer 300S's are decent looking cars when the 300 never really has been before imo. With some agressive bumpers and a widebody kit it would sell well
Doug Demuro should be the voice of the people to every major car companies out there as far as to what cars should be made and what features they'd need to incorporate in them.
Chrysler could make an SRT Pacifica, as I just learned the other day. The Pacifica with the optional all wheel drive, is indeed rear drive biased which can send 100% of the power to the rear wheels
It could only do that if the front wheels have zero traction, just like the Haldex AWD system. Otherwise it’s front biased. Even it rear biased, mounting a V8 transversely is tall order in and of itself.
@@smack9x I’m surprised a turbocharged Pentastar V6 doesn’t already exists in Stellantis’ lineup. That would be just the right engine for a Pacifica SRT.

The Pacifica with the tow package can pull 4000 lbs. An SRT Pacifica with AWD would be an amazing all purpose vehicle, with towing probably of 5,000 (if the frame allows) and more interior space than almost anything else, particularly if it is able to keep the stow and go seating.
I think a car that should be made is a G-Class Pickup. In the US people seem to love trucks, so it would make sense to make an up-market luxury off road Pickup. Unlike the X-Class pickup it would be all Mercedes, which would include an AMG version, which should put the focus on off-road performance. Also people in the US seem to be willing to pay much more for pick up trucks than any sane person would, like 100K+ for Raptors and TRX' I think Mercedes misses a huge, unexplored niche there. And also he never mentioned the Multivan and Crafter, those would be easy to bring to the US Market
As well as every van form you can wish for (Caddy, Transporter, Multivan, California, …) 🙂
Unfortunately by it being eletric it limits A LOT the camper capabilites, you won't be able to go very far and if you turn on anything it will tank your range
@@honestyisthegucci VW aren't going to bring Multivan and Crafter to the US market, likely due to chicken tax. Passenger vans built in Europe aren't allowed to enter US market, they must have rear seats removed, so they can be sold as commercial vans.

No one ever in Europe thought about Levorg as WRX but wagon. It was cvt only, at least in that region
The levorg looks so good
VW has a Van like the Sprinter, called the VW Crafter.
There even is a camper van version of it called the Grand California, but its only sold in Europe.
yup, strange thing in deed, Ford has one as well but based on the transit, and there are plenty of aftermarket options.
Grand California and not sold to real Californians? Vw is missing something.
Funfact: the First Generation of the Crafter even was rebadged Sprinter
@@boxoffisa Blame cold war politics. The chicken tax is why the US can't have nice, small euro trucks/vans.
Couldn't imagine, there is no VW Multivan in North America or even an VW Sharan or a VW Touran. Look at the European site, there are a lot vans.
You beat me to it!!! I work at a Ford dealer and we can't keep them on the lot. I'd like to see a version as a 2 door wagon.
Almost like the old single cab rangers that i saw EVERYWHERE for fleet uses
Would this be possible to do with a unibody? I imagine it would lose a lot of rigidity by getting rid of the second row.
@@DonnieTheOstrich there is the possibility, but nothing that two extra steel tubes can't solve i think.
@@secton832 Exactly! I used to have one when I started as a handyman, and it was an excellent work vehicle.
12:50 I think that is the Rav4 Prime. It is more expensive but considering how popular it is and how high the demand is, it's become the SUV equivalent of a Prius.
ya i agree. I also think the prius name carries an inescapable stigma now
Also, considering the fact that Toyota has a hybrid version of almost every car and SUV they sell, a Prius SUV just doesn’t make sense.
Yes absolutely
And you got the Caravelle and the cargo van version, Transporter
@@mikefarrington7141 especially makes no sense after they discontinued the Sharan

None of that kept them from making the Dodge Shadow convertible in the 90s.
@@joshua.harazin That's....not the same platform though...
@@iClamperson His point is that the Shadow platform was even worse, typical Chrysler junk and it has never stopped them before.

Nah...the Hellcat is first and foremost a drag car. A 'vert would be too heavy, not allowed on some tracks and possibly too dangerous.
@@TucsonDude lol too dangerous. But you can ride a bike with 200+ HP and its fine right?
Hi Doug, I have been a fan of your videos. Your way of video production is entertaining and informative at the same time. Keep it up:)
Love from 🇨🇦 and 🇮🇳
You "have been" a fan ... Does that mean you aren't a fan anymore?
If I remember correctly, Dodge was going to do a convertible of the Challenger in year 2 or 3, but the recession and bail out put that on the shelves. With that said, kind of figured that would have been resurrected once things recovered, but maybe the sales are strong enough without a convertible.
An SUV Prius is such a great an interesting idea I never thought about that but it'd make so much sense
It would just be a uglier venza
when toyota has already several hybrid SUVs, it feels kinda strange to bring out yet another car that’s only marginally different than existing ones.
12:50 it exists, it's called "Corolla Cross", it has the same 1.8L hybrid engine.
Who cares if everyone is broke and can't afford to pay 7 million dollars / gallon of gas?
@@aaz1992 just because you’re broke doesn’t mean everyone is kid
This is the best idea off the list. They could put in a v6 turbo similar to mdx type s. Make minivans great again
@@smack9x I’m surprised a turbocharged Pentastar V6 doesn’t already exists in Stellantis’ lineup. That would be just the right engine for a Pacifica SRT.
Honestly, I would consult with Doug often as a manufacturer, he really seems to have a unique understanding of the consumer market. A lot of what he says seems obvious but only because he brought it up in the first place. Thats how you tell someone knows what they're talking about.
I want a modern El Camino. I know that it's stupid and niche, but I would buy it if it looked good.
Me too. I've been wanting subaru to make an outback with a bed for years.
I don't think it's that niche. Yutes have been in demand for a long while.
It would have happened if GM had not killed Pontiac because they were going to bring the Holden Maloo over as a Pontiac. Would have been dope.
There actually were plans to produce a pickup version of the Pontiac G8 but 2008 happened
Chevy needs a competitor to the Ford Maverick. They have two awesome names they could choose, either call it an S10, or an El Camino.
“Nissan is trying to survive on Altima’s they finance to people with bad credit”😂🤣 honestly Doug, props to not pulling any punches; excellent commentary
Saw the title of the video and thought "Hellcat Pacifica... That's gotta be it right?" SRT Pacifica is close enough lol. Waited the whole video for it, and Doug does not disappoint. Well done.
Doug is the type of guy that reads the owner's manual to his baby son as a bedtime story.
Look, son! At page 90 and 91 the are some interesting quirks and features
Venom isthe type of guy who posts extremely over-used not remotely funny posts. It wasn't funny the first time its not funny every time DD makes a video and soeone thinks they're original, cute, and funny
I think a dodge magnum with a hellcat would be a good comeback
I liked this vide as soon as you said Challenger convertible... Your absolutely right and I have no ideal why Dodge hasn't made one.
Personally I think that Alfa Romeo should make some sort of quadrifoglio wagon
Doug, you missed one car that was great when we had little ones in DC: a Mazda 5. Don't know why you can't find a small sporty van anywhere. Could have made a Mazdaspeed version, would be fun to drive to the carpool line.
I would absolutely love a Mazdaspeed5. I have a 2007 and I think a fast one would be a riot. But I don't think there's any argument to be made for bringing back mini-minivans since Mazda stopped making it due to poor sales.
They also made the CX 7 which was a midsized SUV, but that also had poor sales due to a very weird styling.
Ford/Lincoln needs to make a modern yet traditional update to the panther platform. Electric or V8 with all the interior electronic comforts of today. Many of us still want 6 passenger big American sedans
Hahha great video Doug ! Most of these you’re righttttt. I live in a country where some of these are available 😂😂. The land cruiser, we have like 3 different kinds (Prado aswell)
Ford Ranger raptor but we don’t get the f150 (as you said)
And there is a BMW X7 M50i, i don’t know if they are manufactured in the states but they do make them. It is interesting seeing the difference
Dodge Dakota should definitely make a comeback, this is the perfect time and the already have a platform available
i woudl love a new 04 dodge dakota tot replace my 02. std cab short bed V8 4x4 manual trans
Exactly. They need to compete with the colorados rangers and tacomas
My buddy sent his challenger to the states to convert it to a convertible it’s the only one in Canada and is absolutely amazing ! Truly one of a kind
Doug is my inner car “quirks and features” nerd come to life
100% agree on the Manual Ferrari, literally everyone wants manual sports cars now.
As Porsche realised however I dont think the production numbers are high enough for Ferrari to spend the R&D and tooling on a manual box as well as the flappy paddle
Everyone on the internet. Real life is another story. Manuals have become niche, something to brag about, not to enjoy. A manual car with auto rev match is useless.
@@nightdriver7216 Deffo not..Manual.cars.are drivers/enthusiasts cars, not from bragging rights
@@nightdriver7216 automatic rev matching deletes one of the beautiful things of driving a manual car, it is ok for everyday driving and to build confidence on the first track days, nothing more.
@@nightdriver7216 and also, you should look at the cars sold on cars and bids, it is clear that manual sports cars are hugely requested in real life
doug, please make more of these vids, or even a podcast. love enjoying your humour and car knowledge
What about a new Pontiac Aztek? Like some sort of off-roader SUV with quirky adventure gear, maybe with an electric or hybrid powertrain
Doug the type of guy to tell car manufacturers what they need to make.
And rightfully so.. Doug speaks straight factsss
Also people in the US seem to be willing to pay much more for pick up trucks than any sane person would, like 100K+ for Raptors and TRX'
I think Mercedes misses a huge, unexplored niche there. They would just need to elongate the chassis a bit more and they would be good to go. All the rich people would go crazy for it.
That would be awesome but I think the chicken tax is the biggest reason why foreign manufacturers don't sell pickups in the US.
@@Mikeey684 There is no reason a modified g made into a crew cab pickup couldn't be made in Alabama. I agree, every reasonably affluent soccer mom would need one.
@@Mikeey684 foreign manufacturers Toyota Nissan.....
Doug's the type of guy to say "Let's get started!!" leading into him saying "Before I get started!"
They do sell a wrx wagon in other parts of the world. It’s called the Levorg and it’s awesome and they should sell it here
Will never happen, but would love for Pontiac to come back as a true “enthusiast” division. Even if they had to come back as all electric vehicles it would be great to see them make a comeback.
Would also like to see a performance Honda coupe to return and go against the BRZ and Toyota 86.
Also how about a new version of the GMC Syclone and Typhoon? I can go on and on….
Honda needs electric S660, it's only sport kei car left, but it's too weak and you can't cram more than 1.0l petrol engine in there, so make it electric, it doesn't have to have big range, it would be like 1st gen electric Fiat 500, just a fun electric car for not a lot of money
if Pontiac returned I want them to bring back the GTO but this time, but this time I want the car have the classic 1966 style grill and body style.
