Thanks for the update!
After I saw one of your previous videos, I asked for a BNC to PL version and a longer ground spike and got it delivered! Did already 4 SOTA activations successfuly with it and will create a video to show this antenna system optimized for low weight and small mountain tops.

Let me know when your video drops; I'd love to see use case for SOTA.
@@HOAHamRadio I finally published the video with the title 'Vertical Antenna for Tight Spaces'. Thanks to your interesting video, I perfected this light antenna system! That's why you're mentioned in the video.

Well you Sold me on them, just bought 3 different models of the spikes at BD7Maple's store. Can't wait to try them......KE8UGS 73's
Hope you like them as much as I do Chris; I've had the UHF version for years. Its a pretty quality piece of gear.
I didn't have as good luck as you did. I got the bd7-maple redesigned spike based on this video. I put it into hard clay packed PA soil. My antenna was leaning a little. When I tried to straighten it, it snapped at the epoxy connection. I did contact bd7-maple and he is sending me a replacement. I will, now, be more careful in stressing the connection. However, I don't think I inflicted anywhere near the stress you did. Love your videos. 73, Peter WB3IZU.
Thanks for the feedback. It sounds to me like they sold you the "original" with the flaw the first time; that's a bit disappointing. I'm glad they are replacing it, and certainly hope they send the same version as they did to me.
Saw those on ebay a few days ago. Ordered one to try. Looks great and 3/8 24 friendly.
I've have the UFH version for years; its fantastic. I think they finally got the 3/8 X 24 right.
Great demo. You do a wonderful job of showing how these things can be helpful in the field.
Thanks for the positive feedback James, appreciate it.
Hi,been using the same ground mount for over a year with an ADAPTER UHF-MALE TO 3/8X24-FEMALE HEAVY DUTY and a 17 foot telescopic stainless steel whip without any problem, the original design was very strong ,and adding the heavy duty adapter gave me the 2 options needed and if needed the snakeclamp 3/8 to m10 adapter gives you 3
You are SPOT ON! I prefer to use the UHF version spike, and adapter.
Thanks for the redesigned video. Did they take your prior advice and increase the ground spike length. ??? 73
one is on the way ..... I just got a Comet hfj-350m antenna and plan on using the mount set up on a heavy camera tripod ... hopefully all goes well !! de N2JNZ
Great little piece of gear!
That ground spike looks kinda perfect! I just ordered a BD6IBI as my first whip antenna to try. It has an M10 connector on the bottom and I ordered an adapter to 3/8". It looks like I can get the BD7 Maple ground spike and screw that right in!
I'm not an antenna guy kinda ham. Do I need to use radials for ground plan when using this or does the ground spike ground it to the earth for the ground plane? I've built a few wire antennas for veritical to hang from tree branches and using radials and positioning them well has been required for a good swr.
Yep, will need some simple wire radials. I'd start with 3 or 4 wires at 16 1/2 long, then add if needed. The BD7Maple ground spike had a screw to attach radials, or if you want to go nuts.... ruclips.net/video/pTNojRg8x40/видео.html
Could you screw the WRC Silver Bullet 1000 into the top of this spike? No real attachments for ground radials thought, right?
Yes to the WRC and any 3/8 X 24 antenna. There is a threaded lug to add radials.
I was thinking of this video, a couple days ago, while using an orange mallet to coax the spike into the ground in a POTA forest. 😃 de AC7PB
Ah yes...I beat the living daylights out of that thing. I certainly hope yours is holding up well!
Here you go making me want to spend money again.
I have the XYL off making a list of things I've purchased cause I saw them on TheSmokinApe channel....we'll have to compare lists some time.
Lol
Is the spike still 9” or did he update that to 12” as well.
Nope, still 9". That request to 12" was lost in translation. I've never had issues with my original 7" spike, but I think 12" would give people peace of mind.
@HOA HAM ...i know your not there sell man.but would you know when they will have any more GRA-ULT01 MK3 Lightweight Portable Antenna Mast Mount Tripod Tower UHF SO239 + 3/8" - 24 + 1/4 Camera Connector for GRA-7350T CB HF Ham Radio Amateur Outdoor 3/8x24 | GABiL in stock on amazon??????????????
Hey Chuck. Amazon seller Gail Radio stocked out on this several days ago. They are telling me late June. Not quite sure what happened; haven't seen them sell out like that before.
@@HOAHamRadio Thank you BOB that was a big help you the man 😂 😂
m10 version?
Nope. Can't seem to get anyone interested in making this here in the US.
@@HOAHamRadio darn, there are a lot of us that use antenna parts in that size! KB2GCG
@@jerryKB2GCG I'm not giving up yet.
