I had this record as a kid. It's been years!
I had this too when I was about 5 years old! The rhythm of the acoustic guitars moves me so much and til this very day I sing the riff ! I put on a little skit for my parents and mimed along to it too! What a fun thing to hear again for the first time in 50 years!!
Oh wow! I listened to this one over and over as a 3, 4, 5 year old. Loved it and remembered almost all the words. Love it! Thanks for sharing. What wonderful memories.

As a kid when I'd hear ol' Thurl sing about "the ghosts and banshees", I thought he was singing "the ghosts and Ben Cheese". I always wondered who in the living hell Ben Cheese was.

Had this record along with I think 11 others. I found 3 of them including this one. These United States, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow.
An interesting tidbit: If you find that wonderfully booming bass voice in the song “The Headless Horseman” strangely familiar in places other than here - you might also remember the amazing singer Thurl Ravenscroft as the voice of the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes icon Tony the Tiger for no less than fifty years. Additionally - he was the vocalist who sang “You’re a Mean One, Mister Grinch” in the animated Dr. Seuss film How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Sadly, Mr. Ravenscroft passed away in 2005 - and, as a multifaceted backdrop to my long ago childhood, I can assure you that HE IS SURELY MISSED.

What a joy to find this on RUclips! My parents gave me this Disney LP in the late 60’s, 50 years ago. I listened to it so much in those days that I can still sing along with the songs. Such an innocent, clean time. We’ve lost a lot over the years.

I’m with you too! I went searching for the song about, “things that are so different from…” So happy to find this! I had eye surgery in 1968 and could read or watch TV. About all I could do was listen to my story albums like this one!
I can't believe I found this. I've had this song snippet stuck in my head for decades "He gave us this land with its stories to tell like the legend of Rip Van Winkle" - and the repetition of Rip, Rip, Rip Van Winkle after. I could not remember where I had heard it - but I associated it with the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Now it all comes back. I remember this LP - and the Haunted Mansion one mentioned below. But I remember seeing a cartoon of Rip Van Winkle and I swear they were on TV as a spooky Halloween duo - Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle - but perhaps I'm imagining that.
I have this record! My dad brought it home from my grandparents to convert it to a CD when I was little. When I got a record player for my birthday a few years ago I got to add it to my collection.
I was 8 or 9 when mom bought this home. I listen to it several times every year, and a lot during Halloween!
Never get sick of it. Timeless classic story.
I had this album as a kid, sometime after the original film aired on the weekly Disney Sunday night show in 1966. I was familiar with the story from a Disney American folklore book I received for Christmas '65. I was thrilled when I learned the animated version was going to air! I recall Halloween that year, '66, was, locally at least, to be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 1, though it actually fell on Sunday. The reason for this I don't remember. I DO recall being so amazed when my mom pointed out afterwards that the Disney program was showing "Hollow" because it actually WAS Halloween that night, Sunday. Anyway, it was a real thrill to see it for the first time. As for the record album, for some reason neither side would play, though nothing was wrong with the player. I don't recall if it was returned to the store for a refund. I only remember being so disappointed. Ah, me, childhood!
The way that Rip van Winkle describes the futuristic gadgets like roads, kitchens, and buildings, remind me of the way that the writers scripted hocus-pocus when the witches come back to life in the current day.
Thanks for posting this important piece of my childhood! My new tradition is to listen to this at least once a year around Halloween.
This Disney album - along with another Disney album Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House - were two faithful “go to” long play records during the Halloween seasons of my childhood. Thanks so much for posting!!

Ichabod was a school teacher, and not married, and no one mourned his passing.
When I go to work for Disney I want to adapt this other Washington Irving Story in the style of a package film Divided into two stories much like Fun and Fancy Free and Ichabod and Mr Toad
