My roommate back in college 1975-1977 would put his speakers in the dorm's windows that faced the outside campus and would blast the Dynamic Superiors. He loved this group and would say how he wished he could sing because each time he would play Leave it Alone and Hit and Run Lover he would exhaust his vocal cords trying to emulate Mr. Tony Washingtion's voice but failed each time. This group one of my favorites. RIP brother Tony and thanks for the great music!
Such a beautiful and EXTRAORDINARILY talented man Tony Washington was. Wow. The way he moves from falsetto to chest voice with ease is a lesson to all singers. RIH and thank you for being unapologetically YOU.
Tony washington was a Bad Ass singer Wow!!!!what a hell of a voice. His voice was on fire he was awesome!!!! Gone to soon. The group was the Bomb!!!!!! Tony must be up in heaven singing beautifully. Oh my gosh. So classy.
Stephanie I am from DC...this group has been a staple here for years and years..people didn't care about Tony's flamboyant presence. He was just that good
Motown has/had so many great singers. Wow they are great Tony Washington in particular! Michael Jackson is my favourite artist but I love so much Motown artists.
This brotha had some serious pipes! There were so many great sounding under-rated groups back in the 1970s like these guys. They may not have had as many top charted songs but the ones that did have stood the test of time.
why haven't unsung done anything on them yet? This has to be one of the greatest tragedy of a superstar potential groups ever that was not pushed by Motown. Berry Gordy did us a dissatisfaction by shelving them instead of pushing them to the front like The Jackson 5, and Temptations. Bad judgment Barry. We got robbed of superstar talent for what ever reason Barry made to not push them harder
They had a major push by Motown but it was some radio stations especially R&B radio stations that didn't want to play the Dynamic Superiors because of lead singer Tony Washington being openly gay at the time.
F#^*@# RADIO they always try and push all that garbage for music. I saw the Dynamic Superiors live in concert..nobody could come even close to this group..nobody. So glad I have their first two original cd's.
Michael tanner Gay was unspoken of back then. Even tho he had a fantastic voice I guess Barry was too afraid to push that agenda on the public. Back then no one was openly gay for fear of reprisal!
"Dynamic Superiors," they truly were! Tony Washington's voice was Amazing. I will always keep him & the guys in my heart. They deserved more recognition than they received. "This Grammy goes to the "Dynamic Superiors!" RIH Tony Washington, the best!
One of my favorite songs, Leave it Alone, written by Ashford & Simpson. And one of my favorite singers, Tony Washington. He had a voice that could do everything, so good. One of a kind. And the choreography, damn.
I grew up in the 70 with this group Westside Detroit we played the hell out of their music first time seeing them on RUclips 2021 January the 27th I found this video thank you ...
Renee Green, if you went to John Phillip Sousa Jr. High School and rode a Metro Bus I was happy to see your tag on this video!!!!!! Here’s to you Gwendolyn, Cynthia, Anita, Michelle, Sharon and all the cutest young women populating our jr. high and singing harmonies in the echoing hallways. If this isn’t you...sorry!,,,,,
Tony Washington, Wayne Cooper, Keith Barrow, Sylvester James Jr. ... All of them are the unsung heroes of the soul music that we consider, the gloomy aids epidemic era sadly claimed many talents' lives in the end... May they rest all in peace...
I remember I was 13 and Keith Barrow was in record store promotioning his new single You Know You Want To Be Loved .I recall he had smile as bright as the sun.He was so excited about single and the future of his career ♥️
His natural tenor (like Eddie Kendricks had a natural tenor but sang falsetto most of the time…and Tony was better than Eddie, sorry, true facts…and Phil Bailey)
It's really hard to wrap your mind around the fact that this 1972!! Let that sink in. Beautiful video and choreography. We'll put together. But this was 1972!!
The Dynamic Superiors were from Washington, D. C. and recorded on Motown Records label. The songs on their first two albums were mostly written by the husband-and-wife team Ashford & Simpson. They recorded with moderate success throughout the 1970s. One of their bestselling hits was "Shoe, Shoe Shine" in 1975. They were unique in that Tony Washington was openly gay, and sometimes dressed in drag onstage.
Man, where the hell did you get this???? I knew there had to be some more live performances on these guys!!! Theses brothers put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen!!! Wish Motown would have given them a bigger push!!!
Unfortunately singer Tony Washington passed on way too soon. Saw them in the late 70's perform at the Mark IV Supper Club. Even then you knew they were the group that would make it to the top.
