- Alpha Kappa Alpha (Alpha Chapter) performs live at DC Armory during Howard University Homecoming.
Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta won first place
Kappa Alpha Psi and Zeta Phi Beta won second place
Everyone does tributes at Howard Stepshows. Its tradition! Been doing it for over 20 years.
The precision in this show is actually amazing! these girls can really step! great job!
If the skirts are a chapter tradition then that's that. Watched a lot of step videos lately & the energy they showed was off the chain!!great job ladies!!
Very classy show ladies.
So after I saw this performance live I said they couldn't get any lower than 2nd but I was a tad bit inebriated....After watching this youtube clip SOBER, you can make a valid case for them taking 1st place.....that was a damn good show
Rest of my post was supposed to say... Check out the AKAs from the 2010 Sprite Stepoff in Chicago. They had a nice look (wearing a t-shirt with leggings and boots), and their moves were precise and crisp.
They went sickkk...
@immigratty Just so everyone knows.... stepping in suits Has been an Alpha chapter tradition since like the 80's
@GradeAsoror98 I was thinking the EXACT same thing... Thank you for speaking on that
I like the stepping in business dress suits. It's unique.
It must be one of the most challenging things to submit to a organization on HOWARDs. I actually have been waiting to see the Homecoming shows as they, "go so hard"! Although this is only a fraction of the show, this is VERY creative show. As the 2009 show was phenomenal this show was just as together. If they didn't win, WOW!
I love my AKA's !
They killed it,real talk
@MissLovingAKA you're right just check out the GO chapter of Iota Phi Theta's performances at the 2009 and 2010 ATL Greek Picnic step shows.. our org is known for putting together a tribute for all sororities
They deff shoulda won that
I love these damn girls! I mean "LADIES"!!!
The show was tight. The Deltas just came harder with stunts & the chants. But a good argument can be made for 2nd place.
@pretty08marie just a bit more clarification...when I say the deltas and zetas out stepped them I mean with theatrics and with difficulty of steps...these AKA steps are clean and precise but they are cadenced and not as difficult to execute...
GREAT JOB SORORS YALL KILLED IT!!! SKEEEE-WEEEE!!! 1908!
@kelly1920
I agree it's been done OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, you gotta come with something new!
Nice show ladies. this was a good show. The Delta show just seemed a bit more high energy, although they did stunts that....I could see it having gone either way.
as always, the AKAs put on a damn fine show...
@immigratty I have to agree especially the Alpha tribute.
they killed that short bus shawty
they stepped but the deltas and zetas out stepped them this year...thats all...should brought that A game like they did last year... yes they may have had some technical issues but watch the zetas video from the step show 2008 thats what I'd call technical difficulty...they still did a good job tho..cant wait to see what happens next year
@MsPinkalicious4 Oh I always remember my humble beginnings, Humility is one of many things learned on my JOURNEY towards becoming an Alpha. But thanks for the advice
Just to be clear...who won among the sororities this year? Was DST first place? The AKAs or Zetas for second place?
@immigratty I agree, I liked both shows, it just seems that the energy dst had just made the performance seem on a high scale, but i like the suits.
@big662 well ... I can't stop them! ;-)
I love Alpha chapter and this was a good attempt, but I feel they came TOO safe this year. P.R.O.D.I.G.Y was hungry for the win and they stepped to kill. It seems like the girls this year didn't think there was gonna be any competition. Boy were they wrong! I already know next year yall gonna turn it up tho!
And didn't they mess up their lights at the end? like not cut them on for there final stunt?
@Voic30ver ok for real, I'm not trying to be funny or anything, but their steps were very simple. What I will give them is a couple of times in there they had three different [simple] steps going on simultaneously, but nothing in their show was difficult. Maybe we are defining "intricately" differently. Can you explain what you mean by "intricate?"
@jjplay1202 respectfully disagree but thank you for the clarification
@missresecup yeah Deltas were definitely more energy fewer breaks. but i'm not feeling the suits. i just think that is very extra, and it does seem a bit unlady like to step [and do splits etc.] in a skirt. If they want to do suits, they should definitely do pants, that would be very cute.
lol this was nice...
This show as far as the stepping seemed to just be a repeat of last year's show...just no machete's and a significant amount of more hair whipping.
dey look a mess in dem suits!
Yeah they do......didn't want to say it...
Did she say "but if she stop sleeping with the frat, did an actual lean with her legs closed..." lmao @ 3:00
@immigratty i agree pants suits would have been nice
@PageantQueen Really? That was a dumb comment. This is not the first time a sorority has done tribute steps to the frats of the D9; Nor will it be the last. It's done in both probate shows and step competitions. Personally, I see it as a lack of creativity when done in a competition. It's like saying, "I can't find other ways to fill in the 10 minutes allowed, so let's just impersonate the frats." Where's the creativity? But to say it's disrespectful is beyond ignorant. If so, no one would do it
smh at some of these hate filled comments.
@MsPinkalicious4 See i think you misunderstood my comment, when I said we would never do "founders step" I was referring to the Deltas founders step that they do ( which everyone does when doing THEIR tribute step) I was not saying i wouldnt do OUR founders step( if we had one, which we dont) thats some skater shit...and yes we do come up with new COMPLEX steps and we do win..NATIONAL Titles in fact ...Super Stomp, BET National stepshow, Alpha National Stepshow, with NO TRIBUTE steps #googleus
@immigratty well i would call a tribute to other orgs creative.. if that group wants to do a tribute then let them do the tribute.. its hurting nobody
Dope show, Now personally I think that a few things could have been changed to make it a winning show, like someone said there wasnt a WOW factor and Im sorry I have to agree, I personally hate tribute steps, not just when sororities do it, but ESPECIALLY when Frats do it.. I dont see the point of it... My squad NEVER have and Never Will do an ivy stance, founders step, or anything else like that on stage...But to each his/her own..But Overall Very good show.

@big662 I've seen plenty of frat do tributes, I don' t like it when they do it either, but it is just extra irritating when sororities do it because they seem to ALWAYS do it. Perhaps frats here and there do it, but it seems like nearly EVERY chapter of EVERY sorority does them consistently. smh
I disagree..second place is definitely their spot...don't think the deserve first
@MissLovingAKA haha I guess the feminist in me will never let me like them, although [as much as I hate to admit it] all the tributes were precise but still. I love the SORORITY steps, and with such strong organizations with long rich histories, there is so much the sororities can incorporate of their OWN history. and if it's a part of judging criteria for sororities and not fraternities, that REALLY sux! :-(
@KosbyShow7 oh ok. I just think it's terrible to step in skirts, tradition or not. at one point they seemed to be mocking an org for doing something with their legs open [couldn't understand what they were saying] but they are doing splits and stepping in skirts [with their legs open] that is awful. suits are fine, but I personally feel it would've been far more classy and ladylike to step in pants suits vs skirts.
I dont see how they placed before the SGRhos they had no difficulty in their show at all it...it was average and I dont even know what the theme was. DST did do a great job! and when did they start trying to use kanes????? who OK'd that????...thats like the Alphas using canes to do a tribute to SGRhos...so confused
@PearlfectJourney well. that's cool that you like tributes and skirts, but it really saddens me when women "pay homage" to men and put down fellow sisters. Perhaps I wouldn't loathe the tributes so much if every show was not totally dissing other sororities. It's just not right. I wish they would outlaw the following things in EVERY show:
1. skirts
2. tributes
3. disses
4. hoochie dancing
I still say these steps are dumbed down...not difficult at all
@big662 like one guy said, it's like saying "I don't know how to fill this ten minutes of this show, so let me just do frat steps" completely uncreative. and like I said before all of the d9 orgs have so much rich history, instead of highlighting [or putting down] someone else's history, how about show of your own!!!
Decent show but I truly did not get the shawt bus shawty part and the crowd didn't seem to either. I also truly wish AKAs would just STOP stepping in skirts. It looks really tacky because everyone knows you aren't supposed to be hopping around and kicking you legs up etc. in skirts. How can you be a lady jumping around the stage in a skirt. It's a total contradiction of the "ladies" they're claiming to be. Steps were decent and clean. Hopefully, they'll consider eliminating skirts in the
@GradeAsoror98 Seriously my opinion is coming from someone who is not invested in the AKA v. DST fued, goes to HU, or was personally even at the show. I understand tradition in stepping, but there is a way to incorporate traditional steps into new & innovative routines. This show bored me in exception for the skits. Beyond precision & uniformity, the originality and the "WOW" factor was not there. At the end all I could say was that it was a solid show, not a great show.
i just want to know wth are they wearing those hideous suits...good lord ladies
i just want to know wth are they wearing those hideous suits...good lord ladies,,,they look so matronly
@MissLovingAKA what a terrible requirement. Someone said it best on the Delta video this is RIDICULOUS that women always tribute men it sickens me. and I don't see why they would make incorporating other orgs signature moves into your show a requirement. did the guys do tributes? that's ridiculous. they should all ban together and refuse to them. even if it is a requirement if NO sorority does them then what could the judges do. what a horrible practice for sororities
