I would say give them a *little* slack, most of these reporters are not pilots,, and the only single engine plane they are probaby familiar with is the Cessna only because it's a little more well known. That being said, my first thought when I they said that was like most of you was "that's not a Cessna" (Disclaimer - while I am not a pilot I did go through the ground portion of flight school, just couldn't complete the license)
It did not hit several cars, it hit that truck, and then the fifth wheel motorhome. I was there. And it was a Piper plane. And from what I could see, it was three people that had moderate injuries and transported to a local hospital. The “news” is the only job you can be wrong most of the time and still keep your job.
really hard to find good journalism isn’t it They don’t even know what kind of plane it is I can tell you right now it’s not a Cessna🤬The white pick up saved their butts
Not a Cessna genius! Why does every airplane crash have to be a Cessna? Do your research. It’s not that hard to simply google the tail number. PIPER!!!! Not a Cessna.
The main thing that's important are the condition of those onboard and it's nice to hear that they'll be ok. Some of the ignorant comments made in a reported story like this are made by non pilots or those lacking a general knowledge of emergency landing procedures in a situation such as this. For the reporters out there, its very easy to identify aircraft so you don't look stupid. Just Google the numbers you see on the aircraft. It's the registration number and in most cases it'll give you all the correct information you need.
1967 Piper PA-32-300 Cherokee Six, registered out of Apple Valley. Looks like it was attempting a dead-stick on final, and undershot the runway at KPOC (Brackett Field).
Agreed but we have a 6/260 and when you do power offs that thing glides like a loaded dump truck!!! The high wings do a heck of a lot better then the low wings like cherokee's.
@@itjustlookslikethisThanks for the introductory flight lesson. Damn straight I've done it better- many times- in a Cherokee and others. The only thing you're sure about is how stupid you look right now. Good day.
Actually, it's at the pilot's discretion to avoid people. Pilots don't have to avoid people as there is absolutely no law or regulation that requires you to do so during an emergency.
The end of the runway at Bracket Field where he was trying for is literally just the other side of the drag strip, ( and was there before they put the dragstrip at the fairgrounds in). It was just bad luck that when he had to attempt this landing that the NHRA Winternationals happened to be going on at the same time, so that entire area just before the runway was full.
They aren't crashing more frequently. They are just captured on video more frequently. The average GA plane crashes are down by 5 percent this year and previous year.

Considering that happened right past the finish line during round 1 of Top Fuel that could have been catastrophic had it cleared those rvs and ended up on the track with a pair of dragsters going 330 mph.
There's been several small passenger planes crashing lately. Maybe regional small airports should have more oversight to make sure private pilots aren't going to fly unless all systems are good?
The level of luck that everyone survived that crash is astronomical.

Imagine having to file an insurance claim of a plane crashing into your camper.
Well, it did happen.

Look at time 129, behind the crew car that has the roof crushed. It hit the roof of the white truck and white SUV.
NHRA has a tremendous safety staff at their events. I'm sure they jumped into action and administered life saving aid.
Those four people are so lucky they got out of a pool of fuel unscathed
That plane was NOT built in Wichita. How dare you call that thing a Cessna.

Cessna is the only type of small plane known by the American layman these days.
Reporters doing research? This is 2025 not 1978. lol
Its a Piper, not a Cessna.

what ever happened to real reporters and real accurate reporting. Reporters these days are beyond useless wafflers

I guess the pilot missed the drag strip???
It is said that a "Good" landing is any one that you can walk away from or survive.
Wow, did you just make that up? You are so creative.
Wow! Missed the runway by about a thousand feet.
The cameraman had one job..
The ability to slow fly is a vanishing skill, apparently.
It's called "Slow flight" typically done with a running engine. "Dead stick" landing is what it's called. I'm sure you couldn't do a better job.

Read about the Gimli Glider. A 767 ran out of fuel and landed on a drag strip during an event. Happened on Canada.
Geez, I was just a few blocks away at church! We could hear everything, but I don’t recall hearing a crash! I’m glad everyone is okay!
I was there, crazy situation
Did you know that wasn’t a Cessna?
he must've have known the track would have plenty of safety personnel on staff
No credit given to the fans and the NHRA Safety Safari (highly trained first responders) who were on the scene immediately…………
You are supposed crash away from people. Not a good pilot apparently. If your gonna die anyway, try not to hit others
He was trying to reach the airfield, a short distance beyond where he went down.

It was a Piper, not a Cessna. Bad reporting strikes again.
He tried to stretch the glide just a bit too far.
And what would you have done differently if you were the pilot?????
What time did the plane run?
I thought there was a rain delay, but the weather radar did not show anything.
Thanks for the info!
The rain delay was the day before (saturday)
Ran out of gas!
What a pisser for those people who owned the motorhomes and cars.
Covered by insurance, that's why you have it.
It's a Piper PA-32, Cherokee Six. No where close to being a Cessna! At least put SOME effort into your job as a reporter!
What caused the plane to go down? ……. Gravity
Oh man! Someone's Newell is not ok!!!!! Ouch.
Why wouldn't they land on the dragstrip??
anyone else see the crypt keeper?
Whatt.
Plane at the drag strip?
"pilot" was probably trying to "land"
More than a few of the drivers fly from event to even. Some even fly themselves in their own planes. So yes, sometimes planes at drag strips.
