Can you tell me about the phono stage you're using. Is that a Questar? I have the Obelisk SI MKIII with the X2 and adore the sound. Did going with an outboard phono preamp make a big difference for you? (Assuming you had the phono card in the Obelisk). Great video.

This is the Quasar III, I didn’t have the integrated phono stage in my Obelisk. The Quasar is superb, the Questar with added Q-PSU goes close to it but with the limitations of being either MM or MC whilst Quasar does both and has more flexibility for cartridge matching. I believe the phono card in the Obelisk is a similar circuit to the standalone Questar so that wouldn’t be a huge upgrade, maybe a lower noise floor. You would hear a significant improvement with the Quasar though. I’ve recently upgraded to Heed’s Thesis phono stage so my Quasar will be for sale

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that YT asked me to rate this video and so I gave you the highest rating. Your video gave me some ideas for my sound room / system. Very interesting speakers! They remind me of HT speakers that face up. To a lesser degree, I have L series JBLs L7 that have the tweeter, mids and 8" woofer slanted up, and then the 12" woofer on the side. They are ok sounding, but since upgrading, they have been stored away for over 15 years. Since yours face up so much, is there some design in them to have the higher frequencies emphasized to play louder?

Thank you for the kind words. Regards these speakers treble, there’s no restraint on the tweeters so high frequencies would be too much if they were face on. Being off-axis allows the treble to be bright, airy, detailed and always easy on the ear. Very good quality Morel tweeters used on these too

Great sound...how does that gold note turntable compare to the Rega Planar 8 ?

They both do timing equally well, cartridge differences aside I think the main difference is tonal. The Gold Note sound is more weighted from mid-bass down, a bit warmer with a solidity that seems to me more like direct drive. The Rega has a leaner mid-bass, a lighter tonal balance overall. Maybe more precise. I’ve not compared back to back with the same cartridge, so that’s just going off how they sounded to me with the various cartridges they’ve been fitted with

По такой фонограмме понять характер колонок нельзя. Есть фонограмма живой музыки?
    Идея оформления интересная. Какое оформление?

The speakers are Heed Enigma 5, I have other videos on my channel with different styles. They work well with everything I play whether it’s jazz, rock, classical or electronic (can’t really comment on how they perform with metal for example as I don’t listen to it).

    Salve , descriveresti il set-up?

Ciao, the list of equipment is in the description. There’s natural synergy between the electronics and loudspeakers coming from the same company, and the speakers have a non-directional radiation pattern so there’s no stereo sweet spot, the image remains the same wherever you move. Great Italian turntable too!
