  • @danaj8954

    Cecilia reminds us that we people have senses and emotions. She feels the music with every particle of her not only physical but also spiritual body and she also presents the music that way. Without any restrictions the resonance flows through her. She reminds us of the beauty of the Infinite.
    Thank you Cecilia to help people to get rid of their fear of seeing emotions fully expressed let it be by the music, face, body language...

    If you had seen Cecelia Bartolli singing with Bryn Terfel at the "98" Richard Tucker Gala, posted earlier, and it seems, withdrawn, you would understand the reactions of the viewers about Thomas Hamson's "wooden stance", in this concert versus her vivacity. She sparkles and emotes, even in a non- operatic setting.....she sings from the heart - Glorious.

      +Ronaldo Paino I don't know if she is the best, but she can do things nobody could even dream of. And with Thomas Hampson who even Elisabeth Schwarzkopf had praise for (she was an old battleaxe) - he is good and has a beautiful voice. Putting Ci Darem la Mano upside down like this takes charm, chutpa and talent - and get away with it so the orchestra flogs the nodestand with the bows.

    I don't think you people understand this aria at all! It is an attempt by Don Juan (Giovanni) to seduce an "innocent" young bride, and is supposed to be exaggerated for amusing effect. Bartolli expresses the spirit of the piece perfectly, in voice, face and movement while Hampson looks as though he has no idea what is going on, and would rather be anywhere else. Watch Bartolli and Terfel, to see how it should be done.

      +Bob Burns The trick is: They are so good that they can get away with anything on a stage. I would have wished Mozart had seen this one. If You are right about Muti holding the stick, then we got a bunch of aggressive artists.Muti got away - handsomely - in Rome with encore of "Va pensiero". But en encore con tutti!!! Including the AUDIENCE! Not only that: But it was so the chorus wept - and the audience flung their tickets so they could not be refunded - before first curtain.

      For starters Popp and Moser were much higher voices so its not the same repertoire. I do have a soft spot for Berganza. Flicka lived almost exclusively from Cherubino. So no Cecilia does not compare. I would also not compare her to Kirsten Flagstad.
      But then again - if You can't take a joke - then Cecilia is not for You.

    Everyone has their likes and dislikes personally I love cecilia this is not based on great technical knowledge but what pleases the ear and unfortunately some comments about her and others just continue to perpetuate the snobbery associated with opera. Everyone has a right to enjoy what they like and bitchy comments that she is surprised at her rapturous reception because she knows she is not as good as others is totally unfounded.

    Zerlina:
    Je voudrais et je ne voudrais pas ;

    Please not another La Ci Darem. My role in Giovanni is Commendatore but I also had to sing it for the previews. Our Massetto sang it with another one of the sopranos. Everyone sings it everywhere. And if you go to a Gala there will always be a couple singing it. It's a minor piece in a great opera. But if you want to do a Mozart highlight why not do one of the concert arias? Mozart wrote arias for all sorts of voices and levels of ability. Papageno is for a non-singer. 'Deh Vieni Non Tardar' is for an average singer. ' Popolo di Tessalia' is for a great singer. La Ci Darem is just a ditty that makes sense in the story but shouldn't be exerpted. It isn't substantial enough musically.

I've sung almost all the bass concert arias in the studio. I know a little about "the virtuosity it requires" because I used to audition singers for my little opera company.

      What are your qualifications for being such a rude, condescending and pompous buffoon? I've sung Bartolo, Osmin, Sarastro, Alfonso, and Commendatore. I used to audition singer's for my little opera company. I've heard a lot of singer and singing there and in forty years of opera attendance on both coasts in America and in Europe. I'm not the greatest authority on Mozart style on earth but I do have nearly 100 posted RUclips videos on Don Giovanni. That might be a record.
      How about you?
