Excellent explanation ... I had been struggling for more than one year to understand the difference between correlogram and semi-variogram ... I also read your book "An Introduction to Applied Geostatistics" which was somewhat helpful ... but I admit the mistake on my part that reading books make me weary ... Anyhow I was unable to fully understand the concepts, until I stumbled upon this video. Many Thanks Dr. Isaaks!

    Sir I really appreciate this lecture. Immensely helpful and clear! However I'm just wondering if I used the correct method to calculate average and standard deviation of Lag 1 and Lag 2 of Stream 1 -- my averages and SD differ a bit from yours. My Steam 1 Lag 1 Mean(tail) = 0.913846, Mean(head) = 0.936923, SD(tail) = 0.120591, SD(head) = 0.108584. Lag 2 Mean(tail) = 0.898, Mean(head) = 1.026, SD(tail) = 0.122963, SD(head) = 0.085615. Thank you!

Thank you very much for this video! However, I think your calculations are not correct, you seem to have included more than 40 datapoints per transect. In your first head-tail-scatterplot, there are 48 instead of 40 points for example. I also get different mean, sd values etc when I rerun the calculations with the 40 values that are shown in the lineplots.

bad presentation. you have shown at no point practical implication, but just outlined formulas. I conclude that variograms are useless in practice and are just for somebody who likes to calculate numbers
