Thanks brother. Much appreciated. One thing, you didn’t talk about how you can cut off the bottom part of the cabbage and stick it in moist sphagnum peat moss in order to grow a whole new plant. I was so amazed at this when I first saw it. Everyone on the planet earth should know this
I love all your videos. You know how to make a perfect video. I'm not surprised you have so many subscribers. You also have a very pleasant and calming voice.
A good tip for the slug and cabbage worm control. For slug bait, leave a small bowl of stale beer out overnight and it will attract alot of the slugs. And for the cabbage worms, crush some asprin pills into a fine powder and sprinkle around plants after transplanting.
Cut the cabbage head but leave the base of the plant. You will get 4-6 or more mini cabbages growing off the cut area. These take about a month to grow (in spring) and are delicious - excellent for stir frying.
Great stuff! I am really starting to love your videos. I am thinking of starting a garden using containers and it's great to know I am not limited to what I can plant in pots and pans. Thanks a bunch. I will keep watching your.
Thank you for your video, very informative as usual. In my Spring garden I set the cabbages a little deeper in the soil. This keeps the little plants steady in windy weather. I also put the rim of a cottage cheese container around them in the soil to keep off cutworm until the stems are a good size. Having said that, I have learned that planting them in the Fall garden I don't have such a battle with the cabbage worms. Don't discard the big leaves of cabbage that you pull off when you harvest the cabbage head. Those leaves are great sautéed in butter with a little dill weed, or used in soup as chopped pot greens.
I just harvested my first cabbage head ever. It Seems such a waste to throw away those beautiful outer leaves! I tried eating a bit of one and it was not good!! Too bitter. I used the bigger leaves of the head to prepare stuffed wraps. We all love those. I stuffed them with ground meat onions and rice (precooked) and cooked the wraps in the oven with some broth. Delicious! Nice video. Thanks
Love this video so informative. I think I'm going to use 5 gallon buckets now. Thank you And I agree it seems like a waste to get rid of the outer leaves. Maybe compost? This is why I love having my few chickens. I give all my garden scraps to them they'll eat anything. And I get fresh eggs in return and have chicken poop for fertilizer for my garden.
We grew about 10 heads in our raised bed. All they did was grow straight up. It never formed a head but grew a very large plant. I’m going to try again this fall following your instructions.
Very informative and thank you for your excellent outlining of things to use amd look for. I just germinated my first blue lake cabbages and have And all of them sprouted in my paper pots I made. You mentioned liquid fertilizer, definitely I will add that once my seedlings mature a bit more.
Love your videos. It's so nice to know that when i click one of your videos it will be complete from start to finish, way too many people make half a video and then publish it. Seeing you go all the way to harvest shows that what you're doing works. How does a year look like in California temperature-wise? I think I live in roughly the same climate and so can follow your tips for growing seasons but it would be nice to know for sure. I live in Fujian, China; spring starts around March with 15-25 degrees centigrade and lots of rain, summer starts in may with around 30 degrees sometimes up towards 40 and fairly dry (rain about once every other week). Around august typhoon season starts with longer rainy/cloudy spells but still warm. Around November the temperature dips below 30 degrees and some time in December we get winter with 5-15 degrees. Does that sound like it should be around the same growing seasons as you have?
Hi there. First off I want to say that you are So easy to understand. Your way of breaking things down is perfect and even an idiot like me can get it. Now, in saying that, I have a question. I started gardening two years ago and noted some snails on my pots. I Happen to like snails. I'm sure I will find them again this year. How can one get rid of them without killing them? Are there ways to trap them so I could take them out to the wild and drop them off? Also, my main goal this year is to grow as much as I can for the sole purpose of taking the harvest to church drives in my area as well as some of the shelters. Everything I am using from pots to seeds to other containers is not what is costing me. It is the soil. I've called around to see if I can find it in bulk. I can, if I have a truck ( no truck ) and a Huge place to store it ( not enough space ).If you know of Any Way at all that I can cut my soil cost down, please let me know. Thus far the best I was able to find was at Home depot . 1 1/2 cu feet for just under $6. Just to give you a location of where I live, I am in the San Fernando Valley area.
awesome different variety of cabbage .actualy i tried before plant in a pot it was not succesful because i don't realy know the real process to plant and take care. thanks for the tips love it.(* *)
I like all of your videos. They are very informational. I will be trying some of these tips this weekend on my cabbage. Keep the videos coming. I want to see one on growing sugar snap peas or any pea. I haven't had much luck growing them.
Thank you for your videos, I look forward to growing cabbage and ginger. Do you have a video on growing herbs? I would like to grow cilantro and basil, but bugs harvest them and I lose allot before I can use my crop.
This is very helpful video. I have recently sown the seeds which is quite late compared to the season when farmers normally grow them here in our area. Would the cabbage produce edible heads in the temperature of 35 degree celcius?
In the east/southeast--harlequin stink bugs are a huge overwintering problem, very hard to kill. But I'm going to try to baffle them this year with Mint, green/bunching onions (keep the size down), society garlic, garlic, chives, rosemary, catmint, basil, thyme, oregano... You get the picture. All these strong smells confuse not only stinkbugs but Japanese beetles. I'll let you know how it turns out!
I think the smaller 'Heads' are idea for 'smaller' families. Grow a few BIG heads for 'Canning & Fermenting' and grow the smaller heads to help ensure you don't have A LOT OF LEFTOVERS that you don't want to eat anymore. You can get enough out of a 'small' head for SUNDAY dinner for two adults and two small kids or two days meals for two 'Retired' persons.
I tried to grow cabbage in container last year & this year. But last year i did not get cabbage head at all & its look like this year i saw the nice leaf but look like not going to grow the head. My garden dont have that much sun but i follow your video. Any idea i am from NewYork, Queens
All those cabbages you grew were beautiful! It must feel really rewarding to produce a great harvest. I wish I had the patience and time to raise a garden of my own. It's hardwork, but it looks kinda fun. I'm really curious about something though. Did you plant all those cabbages during different time periods? You must have a gigantic yard or something to produce all of those massive plants and whatnot :0 cool work though!
Hey, in my garden where I planted, there are thousands of snails that eat up everything I grow. I have tried to get rid of them in many different ways but nothing works. I wonder if you have tips on how I can get rid of slugs?
We had the same problem :( slugs and snails everywhere. Indian Runner ducks are win win. They love to be in grassy meadows looking for worms, slugs and flies. we are now 99% free from slugs
Great video friend . South Australia has similar weather from my understanding.
Yes very similar!
I've began to love gardening because of you sir! Thanks a lot ;)
Thanks for your feedback, nice to know I inspired you to do gardening. Keep growing!

Thanks brother. Much appreciated.

Another great video... Tasty quick cabbage recipe too. Thanks
You were so detailed, first video I actually take notes on. Thanks for talking about every aspect of growing cabbage.

Hi! After harvesting cabbage, does cabbage come back year after year or you must start over from seeds? TY
I also want to know hope he will answer us.
You should get some pet rabbits. They will eat all that cabbage and give you free compost to use directly in your garden. Plus, they're cute.
