- The day finally came, It is finally here! The final box set of the The Don Rosa Library Edition from Fantagraphics! I waited since 2013 for Fantagraphics to complete these books and it's here. This box set holds volumes 9 and 10 of the Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck: The Don Rosa Library Editions. So join me as I open this box set for the first time and sadly last.

As a lifetime comic collector,I recently did something I just never thought I'd do -i switched to digital!!
I resisted doing that for years but now I just find it more economical and just much more convenient.
(Including reading in bed in the dark without waking up the wife!)
That includes this great series!!
I got the double box sets of the first 4 books but since then got the rest all in digital.
They are just great classic comics-smart,funny adventures-all of them completely worthy of standing alongside Carl Barks!
Rosa is one of the all time great storytellers and it's ridiculous that most comic fans here in America dont know who he is!
It is so convenient and a huge space saver.
"The Old Castles Other secrets" is one of my favorite, it really brings closure to "The life and times of Scrooge McDuck"...and almost makes you tearyeyed.
It did make me teary eyed. Seriously!
It's always a treat to see these types of stories collected in this format. I wish there was one like that for Garfield or Calvin and Hobbes. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I’m reading volume 9 I bought that one because I wanted the three caballeros story . And also really liked the uncle Scooge story with teddy Roosevelt. And I love how proud Donald was that his mother caused out teddy Roosevelt .

Hi! Nice video. I am from Finland, and here lives the most biggest Don Rosa fans. I have to tell you, Don Rosa does not hate DuckTales. He has said that people in America think he hates it because he wrote a sign at his exhibition table where reads "this is not DuckTales" with angry letters. He just wants people to know that his work is based on Carl Barks' original comics and they have nothing to do with DuckTales. Thanks your video. I'll like to see more of these.
Thank you so much for the compliment and I love Don Rosa. I know he wrote an episode of TailSpin, but he doesn't see Ducktales as canon.
It does make sense when you think about it. Christopher Awdry, son of Reverent Wilbert Awdry would treat the TV series Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends as a separate entity from the Railway Series his father created despite using the same cast of characters from the books because of what it changed or what it added that were never in said books.
I've got only one of those. You've got all of them. That figures haha!

I have the 3th, 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th. I think I may have the 5th in English but I’m not sure where I put it and I never read it because it’s just not the same when it’s in a different language with different names than you’re used to. I was too young to realize how good they were when they were released one by one in my country. So my mom only ordered the last 2 that were released. I’m always scanning the internet on auction book sites for I’d love to have them all. I bought 3 and 4 for ridiculous prices compared to what they were released for but it’s still worth it.
I just wish they’d release them ONCE again just so I could buy them, but they’re so damn expensive even if you manage to find it.
I don’t even think the English ones are numbered the same as the Swedish ones. There’s no number 10 of “Don Rosas Samlade Verk” as they’re called. They finish at number 9 with the last story he made.
I’ve read more than half of Don Rosa’s comics (they were released as very overpriced extras once a month) but what I mainly want are the comments both by the historian and by Rosa himself. It’s so awesome to read what he thought when making these stories, what happened during the creation and where he was in life at the time.
I’m turning 17 in two weeks and all I ever wish for my birthday and Christmas from my parents are these books.

Interesting video! It's really funny that nobody in Louisville recognises Don considering you had to wait for at least an hour to meet him when he was in Stockholm, and at one place they had to close it because there wasn't time for him to sign things for everyone!
He gets treated like royalty overseas and here in his own hometown...he gets overlooked. I love that man.
It’s sad few locals knows who he is. On the other hand, he probably enjoys not being recognised that easily and can just do his business in peace.

YES! The Carl Barks is amazing collections too.
I'd love to see a similar set of books for William Van Horn's stories. Those were mainstays of the Gladstone line at the same time as Don Rosa. There's lots of great stuff in there, too, all inspired by an earlier time frame of Barks' works.
For some reason, RUclips finally decided to include this video in my algorithm. But you probably already know by now that Fantagraphics did indeed publish a Disney Masters William Van Horn edition ("Pie in the Sky") a couple of months ago. (I remember seeing your name all the time in the Gladstone/Disney Comics letters pages back in the day.) If not, I hope this comment helps.

Do you know if these are getting reprinted? Box sets 1 & 2 are in print, but 3, 4, and 5 are OOP. Amazon says its getting vol 3 in back in stock in October. Does Fantagraphics reprint these box sets?
I just spend 225 bucks for these two books, because we in Germany don't yet have the full Don Rosa Library and it's not clear, whether it will be finished or not 😂
For the records, the Disney Masters books contain both Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse stories in the same book. So, even if you buy a Donald Duck book, you will still get Mickey Mouse stories and the other way around. By the way, those Mickey Mouse stories are really fun to read, give them a try!
Another great overview, Omar. I love that stuff even if some of my comic book friends(?) give me shit about it. I ask them, "Have you read any of it?", they answer, "No" and I tell them to piss up a rope and shut up until they do. No Duck hate goes on around me. #OmarRules

Yes volume 1 of Don Rosa's Duck Comics will get you started.
I find the story “The Son of The Sun” extremely interesting! Don Rosa has said that the son of the sun was originally a story that he had written for a high-school newspaper, that he later refitted as the Scrooge story we all know. I wish we were able to see this original version and see what differences Don made for the final released version.
I hope to ask him one day and find out.

Already own 3 or 4 of Rosa's collection books in Finnish but Im really considering getting this collection as it would be fun to read them in English as well. Also there never has been neat complete collection like this in Finnish even If ofc all the strories have been published in Finnish

Ye, but we have had the books in collection like this, all of the books are sold separately and just new editions with exactly the same cover that Ive owned foor almost 20 years now. I also thought by now there would be somekind of re-colored proper collection of these books like this in Finnish as well, but nope. I guess they never thought there was ever a need to have them published again in this kind of collection or that there would be any demand for it, but I would like the idea to have those stories in the order they were originally published.
Anyhow I never actually owned all those books in Finnish, so some of these stories Ive never read before either. But I still remember well back in 90s and early 2000s when I still order our local Donald Duck comics how Rosa's new stories were always the highlights when they were originally published.

I have a question though. The new fantagraphics Life and Time of Scrooge McDuck is coming out, but are these stories also collected the same in the complete Rosa library? They look to be vols. 4-5 of the library.

I was refraining from commenting on here because I didn't know if I wanted to jump into another book but I was in the lcs to pick up the Black Hammer library edition and saw individual volumes 1-6 of the Don Rosa Collection. I'm guessing the first box set is not available so I picked up volume 1 because you said such good things about it. It was between getting Terminal City or this and I chose the Don Rosa Hardcovers. I hope they are the same as the box sets size and content wise. I know I already got this blind but is the Don Rosa material a good jumping on point or do I need Carl Barks material first? I hope you're happy you got me hooked on something else in this crazy hobby..lol.
This makes me extremely happy! :) anytime I get people into Duck comics makes me excited. The content in the first book is the same as the content in the first book of the box set.

So Fantagraphics finally reprinted the box sets and I was able to pick them all up. However I've noticed that when opening/closing the books make a really horrible creaking noise, seemingly from the spine hinges, it's especially bad with volume 10. Is this normal/ok? I followed your guide on how to properly first 'break in' omnibuses/hardcovers but it's still doing it. Should I be worried or am I just being paranoid lol?
I wouldn't be worried about that. As long as the inner spine is flexing. Most of the time it's just glue.
@@NearMintCondition Yeah, the inner spine looks to me like it's flexing fine. I thought it could be the glue but wasn't sure if it meant something was wrong with the glued parts or just a thing that sometimes happens.

Great video! I am actually looking for recommendations. I love these old Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics and am looking for recommendations for comics similar to this. I am not a huge fan of Marvel/DC or any other superhuman/powers type comics and when I look online for comics I can only find info on that stuff.

I've never had issues with any of the hardbacks this thin. Specially from Fantagraphics. They put alot of love into their books.
I finally got this part of the collection. But unfortunately, some pages in the vol. 10 are misprinted. Have anyone experienced the same? For example, page 43 was printed twice on the same page.
