    I hope I didn't give the impression that I was planning on quitting RUclips anytime soon. I did give myself five years to see if this RUclips channel was worth pursuing and have found that I still enjoy it. I never set out to "do" RUclips full-time. Really, my goal was to make videos about Hawaii from one local's perspective because I just didn't see that many videos about Hawaii from local creators five years ago. Since then, we've seen a lot of great channels pop up and grow from local creators, which continue to add to a growing narrative of local perspectives about Hawaii.
    Moreso, this video is just sharing what I've learned as a creator with a full-time job and kids. The challenges of creating consistently are tough for those in similar situations. So I hope what I share in this video can encourage you. 🤙

    Thanks for sharing your experiences, Chris! I find it really challenging to balance my full time job with posting weekly videos too, but I don’t have any kids so I have MAJOR respect for what you do! Your boys are going to grow up having a role model who embraces his creative passions and I think that’s so amazing.
    I love watching your videos and always admire your consistency. Mahalo nui for everything you do!

    Burnout is something very real in the RUclips content creation space. The dopamine rush of viewer analytics and connection through user engagement is very alluring. Chris, please don't succumb to the RUclips treadmill of producing content for the sake of doing so. Let the topic reveal itself in its own time and create and post a video accordingly.

    Welcome to the 40's club. Since I'm already halfway through this age group, all I can say is that I'm at a stage when a sneeze can throw my neck out. All jokes aside, I stumbled upon your RUclips channel probably around Dec 2020/January 2021 because I grew up mostly as a minority (Chinese American born and raised mostly in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri), so I didn't really know firsthand what it's like living where most people tend to look more visually like me in every facet of life from leaders, teachers, doctors, construction workers, police officers, and so on. I enjoyed listening to your comparisons living on the mainland because you and I coming from different angles in our own cross-cultural experiences. It's sobering to listen to your perspective, and I appreciate that.

    I enjoy your videos. I get why you feel burned out. Maybe time to take a long break such as couple months and see how you feel about RUclips. Unfortunately RUclips algorithm forces content creators to be on this never ending hamster wheel so it is always a risk to take time off but self care is more important imo. I say instead of weekly videos, maybe try bi weekly or once a month and see.

    Just wanted to say thank you for all that you do, Chris!! There is no reason to compare yourself because a) 40 is just a number, and b) your videos are just too original! I don't even live in Hawaii and probably never will but I feel so much closer to the culture because of your content. Naturally, self-care, family, etc, must come first in life though I highly doubt you will lose your following if you post less frequently. Aloha from Greece 🤙

    Aloha Chris! The highs and lows on RUclips is something I heard other creators talk about. But until I experienced it myself, its important to know that no matter what happens.. as long as you stay true to yourself and for me.. as long as my wife likes it, then I can always feel good about it. Sometimes I just need a jog in the gardens to reel me back in when a video didnt perform well. But no matter what.. def should be proud of your entire library and how youve helped ppl. Making a one minute reel to post to social media is one thing.. but to do what you do.. is tough, which is why theres not many left in Hawaii that do it consistently. On top of the fact that youre a family man now too. Hope sometime we can run into each other and talk.🤙Mahalo for the video

    If you decide to stop I will definitely miss your videos. You give a grounded local viewpoint that is sorely needed on topics that aren’t just local grinds or where to get a great Instagram shot. But, burnout is real. If you need time to take a break you should. You need to take care of you and your Ohana. That has to come first.

    I'm glad for you. Where I am, in "Silicon Valley", internet is really, really slow unless you spend the money for a T1 line, and no normal person has that kind of money. This is why you'll notice there are not very many "man in the street" videos from here despite it being an economic powerhouse and a place lots of people want to go, not just to visit but to spend significant time. You go! Geev' um!

      Interesting. Never thought about content in that area. Less need for that type of content with remote work?

    • @alexcarter8807
      @alexcarter8807 6 месяцев назад

      @@HelloFromHawaiiRemote work is certainly a thing, but thousands of people come here and a lot of bosses are pretty sour on remote work. I've seen remote work lead to poor outcomes or all-out fail so I'm right with those bosses. You have to be in the same place, smelling each others' farts, or things won't happen or if they happen it will be at 1/10th the speed. No, it's just that "Silicon Valley" is not nearly as advanced as people think it is, nor is tech as well-paying, etc. I've seen a person ride a Segay ONCE. I've seen a drone TWICE in 12 years. I've never seen a person use a VR headset. I HAVE talked with people who've left tech - working for Stanford - to work in Food Service because the pay's better. This place nowhere near lives up to the image.

    Chris, thank you for this introspective video!
    - The priority of 'self' comes before anything else. If you don't take care of yourself, how can you care for anyone else.
    - Work & Living: I once 'lived to work', and somehow that transitioned into 'work to live'. So even though I still took my work seriously, my focus was to still do my job well so I could support my family and loved ones. I worked so I could afford to have a comfortable lifestyle.
    - I had a co-worker that boasted about how many 'friends' he had on a social media site, even though he didn't know or have met 99.9% of them. The people you interact with on a daily basis is the core of your inner circle. They influence and control the direction your daily decisions. Always keep your focus there no matter how life can get stressful and become complicated. As a celebrity said, be serious about Love, Enjoyment, Happiness, etc...the positive things in life.
    Thank you for being authentic!
