Thank you, thank you, thank you! The biggest thing I overlooked the last time I tried this was to cut the old rope & let the spring relax... Arghhh! ;0>
I have a Ryan string trimmer I can not remove the screw from the clutch drum. I put rope in the cylinder to keep the flywheel from moving. The screw is a flat head. How do I remove the screw? The rope pulley has moved by itself toward the flywheel and the rope can not pull out. How do I fix this?
The screw in the clutch is a flat head torx screw and id reversed thread. I can double check the replacement screw for your model if you'll write and let me know what it is. The rope should easily be removed from the cylinder unless it was packed in too tightly. If that's case you may end up removing the cylinder to get the rope free.
Thank you. You have just taught me the most important thing and I have just applied it.....and it WORKED!!! May God bless you man. Thank you again!!!!

The model number is 285. It is a flat head screw only.
I thought we might have the clutch drum in stock so I could look at it but it's a special order part.
Oh ok but I am not looking for the clutch drum.
