Full highlights as Japan shock one of the pre-tournament favorites Spain in Group D during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Football first appeared on the programme of the Games of the II Olympiad, Paris 1900. It has been on the programme of each edition of the Games ever since, with the exception of Los Angeles 1932. In 1996, women's football was introduced into the Olympic programme.

The Football tournament at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, will be just like a World Cup. It will feature 6 stadiums that were used in World Cup 2014. The Estadio Maracana and the Estadio Olimpico, will be the stadiums in Rio de Janeiro. The Estadio Maracana was the only stadium out of these two used for the World Cup 2014. Besides Rio de Janeiro, FIFA announced an extra 5 cities and stadiums used for these olympics. These stadiums were all used for the World Cup in 2014. The Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador. The Arena Corinthians, in Sao Paulo. The Arena Amazonia, in Manaus. The Estadio Nacional in Brasilia & the Estadio Mineirao, in Belo Horizonte. Football at Rio 2016 will include 16 mens teams, with the same tournament format as the World Cup. There will be 4 groups, with 2 advancing from each group. This event has the potential of including star players, such as Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar JR. It could also include players from Germany, such as Reus, Gotze, and Muller. It also has the potential of including Colombians James Rodriguez, and Radamel Falcao, if Colombia win the play-off for a spot in the competition. All International teams can only bring players under 23 years of age, however, they have an option of bringing only 3 overage players into their teams. This means, if it all works out, we could see at least 2 of these stars in Brazil on August 2016. This event will sure bring back chills from Brazil 2014, and there will be some amazing competition, for all of us to watch. So tune in on August 2016, for the Football Olympics in Rio!

+Jeaumanzor HD Since 1996 every team is only allowed to have 3 players aged over 23 years. Everyone else in the squad must be under 23years of age. That's why we haven't seen too many of the real stars of football in recent Olympics Games.

I just want to point out that this Japanese team wasn't a full strength squad either. They couldn't take players like Honda, Kagawa, Nagatomo, Endo, Okazaki, etc. Japanese football is a lot better than a lot of people realize. I think they'll do well in the world cup and definitely surprise a few.

Football in the olympics is a JOKE, next time try to beat a regular Spain national team. The only reason why Spaniards played poorly in the Olympics is that all their good players are pros.

Spanish team was predictably non-inventive with their passing game and predictably created very few chances and lacked pace. Whereas Japan was very good in terms of pace and very quick and sharp in transition. Spain is overrated team. They're limiting themselves by sticking to short passing possession game. It forces opponent side to sit in the back so you don't have wide areas to exploit. Very static style of play from Spain. Nothing shocking about that loss. Too much advances to Spanish side. Spain is the best team between the boxes.
