Unbelievable. 90% of the methods you mentioned I've been using since I started learning English. That's how I also succeeded learning German, Spanish and now Swedish. I watch series and movies with english subtitles and every time I read/hear a new word I check it out in the dictionary and write it down, together with the meaning, IPA-spell and a sentence. It has helped me a lot! Thanks a lot for the lessons by the way, you are doing an excelent job!

    1. Read
    Think of a similar word
    Learn the pronunciation
Write down new words with its meaning
Look for related words (adj, noun, verb, etc)
Look for its antonym or a synonym of a word
    2. Watch TV, movies or online videos
    Watch with your notebook
    Practice out loud
    Pay attention to pronunciation (imitate)
    How to memorize everything?
Try to memorize 3-5 words day.
    Tip 1. The Laura
Add a melody to the information or words (Make a song)
    Tip 2. Repetition and grouping
    Organize your words or information
    Tip 3. Visualization

Hi! I found many of your videos useful, especially because of their focus on pronunciation, which definetely is the most difficult aspect of this language, in my opinion. Regarding how to improve the vocab, well I think I have a good tip: MUSIC.
What I personally do is trying to understand the lyrics the best I can, but when a song is particularly tough to understand (great!) I download the lyrics. Then I copy them and I delete some of the words, so the next time I listen to the song I will play the game of filling the gaps. Of course I also sing along, which is great for pronunciation. I think this works better than movies. And that's because it's very hard to enjoy a movie with many pauses to jot down words or sentences. And in the end you don't do it. Music, instead, gives you the opportunity to listen to the same language input over and over again without getting bored. And you get a lot of phrasal verbs and idioms in context! If you love music as much as I do, you will improve your english and really enjoy the songs you listen to.
    Greetings from Italy!

Thank you for giving us those important tips. I remember when I was taking ESL classes at school, watching some of your videos. They really helped me a lot to comprehend more about how the American English is spoken and used. Even though at school students learn grammar it is very helpful to know how American people talk and pronoun words. It is nice that teachers like you are doing such an amazing job by teaching and helping ESL students. You are also encouraging students to keep studying, I found that extremely important. Thank you for taking the time and effort to do all those amazing videos! :)

I've noticed the same thing - when I'm walking and studying I memorize much faster and incredibly easier! And I remember the new words so easily on the next day! I memorize about 20-50 words per day, then pause for the next 1-2 days (I learn other things or watch other videos) and then go back to the old words and I remember most of them with no stress.

I learnt most of all the vocabulary I know when I was younger, by reading and watching the HP saga several times, and translating my favorite songs by Avril Lavigne - using only a dictionary, as I didn't have a wifi connection and a laptop at the time. I also started improving and adding more complex vocabulary later on, when I began watching crime and sci-fi tv shows. Plus, I found it very useful to watch American tv channels on streaming, such as cbs or abc network :)

Ok, here I tell you, how I've learned roundabout 10.000 English vocabularies....
    1. I have written a storage program in Excel VBA (visual basic application), where I stored and organised new vocabularies from books I've read.
    2. When I read a new book, I entered new vocabulaies into my Excel database, with example-sentences and a scorefield for nowledge with the marks 6,5,4,3,2,1 . 6 meant no clue-new word and 1 meant, that I know the word very good.
On each learning session, I took about 20 vokabulary and gave them new score marks. If they reached the score 2 or 1 then they were finished. By this 'system' I learned all new new words.

Many times I find myself not knowing how to use a word that I know or how to say a phraze or how to finish a sentence because I did wrong that I used to learn a direct translation of separate words instead of perhaps learning the whole sentences. Now I'm trying to replace everything I mentaly say to myself with an english alternative. I watch short videos of a person talking about some stuff on youtube and repeat every sentence word by word to get used to the way people express themselves. I sometimes slow down the video to listen to syllables how they should sound naturally. I keep in mind that there doesn't have to be an exact translation for what I want to say so I need to find out what people would say instead. Individual words probably don't mean the same thing that appears in the dictionary because they get used differently in other situations. Therefore I strive to use english explanation glossary as much as possible rather than using only a simple dictionary. We should get used to expressing all thoughts differently - the English way.

yep, absolutely! I still remembered when I came across a new word, I would rather focus on the word itself instead of putting it into a particular sentence to figure it out. so I keep to create many sentences for the words I thought I was good at, then the effect comes out to me, I'm so glad to catch those fresh word. yeah!

lt's really difficult to learn a foreign language,l study English at school, now l'm 33 and believe that the real way to learn is to practice the language with native speakers.

Unfortunatelly even if you have got a great vocabulary, you won`t undrerstand native speakers because pronounciation. For exaple i personally made out all that she had said, but her speaking was very clear. When i came to USA, i wasn`t understand almost anything.

+killahertz1981 It's not only the vocabulary that is important and not only the reading skills. In order to understand native speakers, you need to improve your listening too.
