While he did lose possession, he also had 100 touches (!) and completed 92% of his passes. He was very busy. His long balls were great and he won the majority of his duels. 3. Aidan Morris should start against New Zealand. He was very active when he came on, had 32 touches in 28 minutes, and completed 96% of his passes. Two final points. First, is there any doubt that Alphonso Davies is the best player in Concacaf?? The eye test sometimes lies, but with him, the eye test forces you to open wide, with the jaw drop inevitable. "Dynamic" is an understatement. Carrying, recovery runs, tackling ability, you name it, he is on another level. Second, you can diss Jesse Marsch all you want about his tactical ability, but everywhere he coaches, he conveys his plans with clarity and his players bust their a$$es for him. He inspires them. His ability to spot talent is exceptional--Ahmed is the classic example. He should have never been fired from Leeds, but English fans LOVE to get coaches fired, and Yorkshire fans are particularly nasty and schizophrenic and, frankly, I cheered when they went down and I hope those suckers stay down. Those stupidly fickle and obnoxious fans deserve it.
Not really saying a lot tbf. Best of a bad bunch at best. Mexico should be that team, but have been mediocre for over a decade now. They used to have some amazing players. Where did it all go so wrong? The US and Canada I understand as you’re not really footballing nations.
I just stumbled upon your page and so far so good. For one thing, you haven't used any expletives unlike other Football pundits. I am looking forward to seeing more of your post! I can't wait til 2026!
That Backstreet Boys joke was probably the best I've heard all week. That alone made me put a like on this video. 😂 One thing I would like to correct (as a Canadian), is that Marsch coming in did not give the team a huge culture change. He has just built off of what Herdman did, and though we had a small rough patch before Marsch came in, it was Herdman that guided us to the top spot in World Cup qualifying. We've been a team on the rise for a few years and we are just going to continue that momentum.
As a Canadian, I would say this is just a blimp, all teams have these types of games, we can look back on our team and find such times. We in CONCACF , need to improve, a strong Canada is good for everyone, and stronge USA is good for everyone, ETC ETC
Ultimately its a friendly game and players struggle to lift their game when theres nothing to play for. They’re more concerned with not getting injured so they can play for their clubs next week.
I learned that we need to stop calling up a number of guys until they actually want to show up and fight for USMNT. We’re giving free caps at this point.
Its not easy for players to lift themselves in friendly games tbf. Most are probably more concerned about not getting injured so they’re available for their clubs next week.
@@1972dsrai Friendly or not this is the NATIONAL TEAM. If they don’t want to be there then stop calling them up. There are other guys that will fight to be there regardless of technical ability or what club they play for.
Hey coach youth soccer and my entire practice is dedicated to having fun and getting the most touch on the ball. We may not win every game, but my kids come back every year to play, and they play as hard as anyone else.
I’ll tell you what I’ve learned, Pulisic is no where near the level of a Landon Donovan or even a Claudio Reyna. They would never allow the US team to play at this level….
It was the US Soccer board that hired Berhalter, that didn’t hire Marsch, and we’ll see what happens with Pochettino. Maybe the board has been the problem all along.
Yeah, the US sucks. Instead of putting a band-aid on the problems by getting a new coach, maybe we should do better when it comes to player selection? A coach can only do so much, but we are so bad that I don't even think that Jose Mourinho could help.
Pretty sure that all we learned was that Jesse Marsch should have had a shot at some point and they screwed him for chopped liver Berhalter. It could, however, have worked out to our advantage in the end because now we have Poch and Poch could end up being better than Marsch. Still sucks for Marsch though, who's done pretty well all things considered.
Thats a lot from just a friendly game. Most players struggle to lift their games in friendlies. Canada just wanted it more as it means more to them cos of the coach.
In 2002, a group of Americans that included Gregg Berhalter as a player, went to the World Cup quarterfinals. (They lost 1-0 to Germany who was aided by a referee non-call of an obvious goal saving handball. No VAR replay in those days.) Who would not put money on that team against our current one?
First touch of US trained players vs every other country is a microcosm of the differences between the technical differences between us vs the rest of the world.
Schulte needs to start in the future, Lund is a great lb back up in case of Jedi injury and should probably be looking at a big move. Berhalter ball is still there, however we must wait till poch takes over to judge this team. Remember they don’t have a coach and the interim coach is crap and lost to pexico in u-20
Optimism here. I believe that the 'chip on the shoulder' mentality can be implemented. If thats what made these players: 1. Want to challenge themselves in Europe in the first place 2. Fight for their place on their European team (whether thatd be starter or 30 min sub) Then I'm confident a manager like Poch can re-instill that back into the national team picture. Even tho GGG is gone, that cozy environment crept into the players' mindset and has become normal within the national team. It'll take time to erase that and instill that fight, and again, i believe Poch can do it.
We need to run a 4-2-3-1. Either Koachin or Shulte as the Keeper. Wiley as the LB, Trusty as the LCB, Richards as the RCB, and Musah as the RB. In the midfield run a dual pivot with Cardoso as the 6, De Le Torre as the 8 and Tillman as the 10. In the attack we have Haji as a LW, Pulisic as a RW and Balogun as the 9. Depending on the lead we switch to a 5-3-2 sometime from minute 45-60 sending in Sargent for either Haji or Balo as a dual 9, Mckennzie in for Pulisic or Tillman, Marlon Fossey in as a RWB for Musah or De Le Torre. We can eventually sun in Morris as for Johnny and only sun Aaronson in as an 8.
Tac, I appreciate you and Pete a lot. Keep up the good work. I posted this on ESPN: Casey Keller, where were you when they re-hired Berhalter? How much did you speak out against the failure of the Berhalter system BEFORE it’s complete meltdown at copa America? All you ex-usmnt players are careful not to criticize the USSF and the corruption and the nepotism that exists, because all your buddies and ex teammates are running the federation and the media. It is easy to take cheap shots at Jesse Marsch because he is not part of your corrupt system. They need to fire all you from USSF and the Media. Your generation’s involvement is a reason we are in this mess. I dont care to hear your opinion.
I agree with you that Schulte and Tillman looked good. However, I thought Lund did better than you thought he did. He was solid in D and moved forward fairly well in a weak team showing.
The things I learned. 1. The culture with this team is very poor. It lacks an intensity and grit. Canada were winning balls all over the field and going in hard producing a lot of fouls. We reacted poorly to the fouls and just whined to the ref rather than getting up and giving it back to Canada. 2. Schulte played well and earned another start. If not for him the game could have been 4 or 5 to 1. 3. We have huge problems at Center Back. Game after game Richards disappoints and for all your touting his "technical skills" and ability to pass out of the back I just don't see evidence. In addition, Ream is in a major decline. A wonderful player who has just hit the end of his career at the elite level. He should not be part of teams going forward, we need to try new younger players. 4. I disagree with you on the outside backs. Both Lund and Scally are solid reserves. Lund I thought had a pretty good game and did so some ability going forward in addition to playing solid defense. Scally was very quiet. However, he was facing by far the most dangerous part of Canada's attack with Shaffelburg and Davies and he got little help in containing them from Aaronson who was particularly poor. Can Aaronson ever stay on his feet when tackled. I've never seen a player at this level who seems to be physically knocked off the ball so consistently. Scally to be effective needs to play off an attacking threat in front of him to create space. In this game he was constantly pinned back and got no space or support from either Aaronson in front of him or from Cardoso to his inside. 5. The entire midfield in the first half was bad really bad. Like Richards I just don't see your admiration of Tillman. He drifts out of games, offers little on the defensive side of the ball, doesn't seem to have the grit to challenge for the ball. As a supposed key difference maker, he wasn't it. Each game I hope to see it and I'm disappointed. Musah was just ok but seemed overwhelmed in the middle with Canada's tactics to we set to ensure he couldn't break out in midfield. There was NO chemistry in the midfield and didn't see anyone playing off each other. 6. This team needs leaders and Pulisic for all his skill is not it. He spent way too much time on the ground complaining to the referee. A leader can't operate that way, it sends the wrong message to the other players. Balogun again was on an island up top with little support from Pulisic, Tillman or Arronson. 7. For all the talk of accountability after that first half where was Vargas sending a message. I frankly would have changed at least 3 players at halftime including Cardoso, Tillman and Arronson and maybe one of the Center Backs take you pick. He should have said it's just not good enough. Don't expect to play let alone start with that lack of intensity, effort and speed of play while wearing a USA shirt. Those are my lessons.
I learned we have another very good option for goal keeper Schulte was impressive. He's young big strong and can use his feet.....and interested enough from the MLS. So much for a poor player pool
Based on the results of matches around the world up to and including Sept 7, the US has fallen in the ratings from #16 to #17 and Canada has risen from #40 to #38.
As I commented in your pre-game segment, why are we still playing Ream in these games when we should be building toward 2026. Ridiculous, weakest link amongst a number of weak links. Shoulda, coulda started McKenzie to see what he's made of. As for the right back position, couldn't agree more about Dest, but I'd be cultivating Musah or McKennie as the backup. As you've pointed out, Musah is usually excellent in first two-thirds of the pitch and he proved he can be an adequate defending sub last year at Milan. Another option would be Weah, with Haji starting on the front line in his place. All would be infinitely more dangerous in attack than Scally and much more capable out the back if we choose to continue hitting our heads against that wall.
@@ashen_BA-Pillman And where there aren't futsal courts there are basketball courts that kids can play soccer on. You are right - it's just not popular here.

Tak, your insistence on harping about the technical side of the game is overblown. Heart > technical ability of player if player is generally soccer-serviceable. At the very least, you need some toughness on the field at all times. A crew made up of Neymar and every position (sans goal) would lose consistently. Just looking at forwards, Suarez, Keane, Haaland are incredibly tough. CR7 and Messi are tough as nails mentally. Our best forward players (Gio and Puli) are head cases when things are not going their way. I would take Dempsey and Donovan over ANY of our current players in a heartbeat.
I’ll take those hardworking teams of the past any day even if we lose. At least I knew they’ll actually put in the work giving us a chance to win or draw until the very end.
I agree with you, watch the 14 WC final again. Schweinsteiger is a pretty technical player but his heart and desire to mark Messi won Germany the game. Brazil has all the futsal courts in the world and they have been mid since '14
I'm not as gloomy today as I was yesterday. Yes, the USMNT is at a bottom right now. But not enough credit is given to Marsch taking advantage of the U.S. schemes he knows so well. Varas set his team up very similarly to how Berhalter did. Our MFs, and in particular, Johnny, were flummoxed by the Canadians overloading the MF. Johnny certainly had a stinker, but he didn't become a horrible player overnight. Also, as others have pointed out, we were hurt by the absence of Dest and Jedi, and Marsch correctly identified the problems we had as a result. While it's true that the players could be called out for lack of intensity, some of that can be chalked up to uncertainty of the assignments and roles. I think better times will be ahead with Poch.
Although there's reason for alarm and disappointment (I payed a lot of money to be at all three Copa games), the negativity on the live stream was uncalled for. Tac, I think both of you should tone it down just a little because the parrots just regurgitate what you say to look cool. A good example is degrading the team for recycling the ball back through the defenders... all teams do this multiple times in every game at every level. Now, obviously, you can't just do that all game long. Nonetheless, it came off as hypercritical to me. What did we expect? Look, we are not only without a coach for this game, but most of our best players were out: Jedi, Dest, Adams (his defensive contribution to our team cannot be over-emphasized), Gio, Weah, McKennie... all out. Sure, we had Pulisic, but we were never going to look good against an in-form Canadian team with something to prove. Arguably 6 of our most talented 11 were out. While I don't agree with the television pundits who call you guys "toxic," the live-chat was absolutely toxic and shit rolls downhill. You were absolutely right from the beginning about GGG, but we've turned that page. We're starting over. While I love the USMNT abroad series (excellent analysis), I won't be tuning in for any more live streams. What I want to hear is analysis of the game (which you do well when you focus on it), players, and culture, not a rant-fest and the reciting of a bunch of super chats where people pay $2.00 to to feel like a badass hearing their drivel rehashed on the internet, talking trash because that's what the crowd is doing.
I love your 6th key. Here’s why I think it doesn’t happen. Young players that are significantly better than their peers at keeping the ball away from defenders can basically win games by themselves, and they learn quickly they can score 10 goals a game. The rest of the players-and their parents-HATE that. They have to deal with kids whining that they never get to do anything in games and they quit or change teams or leagues. Plus, there is very much a “teamwork and inclusion” culture in this country that cuts against encouraging kids to learn to dribble circles around the other team.
All I have to say is winning Gold Medal and Bronze Medal at the men’s Olympic tournament is impressive and easier said than done. Winning 38 to 3 CONCACAF Champions League is easier said than done. Reaching Club World Cup final is easier said than done. Winning Copa a Sudamerica is impressive. Reaching 2 Libertadores finals is impressive and easier said than done. Winning 11 Gold Cups is easier said than dine. Winning 2 U17 WC is easier said than done. Reaching Copa America finals is easier said than done. The USMNT fanbase is the only fanbase that goes on and on about “talent” bla bla bla and has an excuse for every single bad or mediocre performance (every match). The USMNT now not only have the worse away record in CONCACAF top 6 teams, they are now losing at home with the US star in its lineup. Just play and win something not on USA soil. Can’t even claim that anymore after Canada came and walked through the USMNT. The Donovan, Dempsey and Howard era was a lot better than this current crop of players. They have had 6 years to sort things out with a lot of money, infrastructure and players in Europe. I ain’t even joking. There isn’t one US striker now that has a better proven record than Clint Dempsey.
Tim Ream needs to be a starter at CB because he’s still one of the top two guys. CCV, McKenzie, and ever other option has looked worse than the fading Ream. Play that man until someone TAKES the spot from him by merit.
Wrong, it's time to move past Ream so we can prep our CB's for 2026. While our selection isn't great, they need to use this time to start playing others and figuring it out.
Canada 🇨🇦 has a lot of chemistry and they have good players and MOST of all they play with heart. The USMNT is boring to watch they play with no heart for the jersey. I really don’t give a damm about USMNT I’m thankful college football 🏈 started 😂
USA needs to slow the game down now that theyve learned to effectively play ball on the ground. In 2002, alot of their offense with through long ball. That's luck ball. What the have to do now is slow it down. Possess. Understand now that they can play on ground north and south right away isn't the way. Relax. Open up spaces by going east and west then open them up more before hitting a diagonal north south. I think they're right where they should be. Closer than most think to being really good.
Usa bench players do not care! They all stood next to the corner flag during the 2nd half, while Canada bench players did running drills with assistant coaches. Things you notice.
There was a time when our toughness made up for lack of technical ability, but our toughness has dropped more than our technical ability has improved

Canada truly is the giant of concacaf
Not really saying a lot tbf. Best of a bad bunch at best. Mexico should be that team, but have been mediocre for over a decade now. They used to have some amazing players. Where did it all go so wrong? The US and Canada I understand as you’re not really footballing nations.
Concacaf has no giants. Canada has been the best team amongst this mediocre- poor group of teams for 2 years though! Never thought I'd see it 😅
@@estebanbr7596 Too soon to say
Not until they actually win something... They look to be a team on the rise, but there is no coronation without a trophy.
@@1972dsraiwe were the kings for a while.you right 👍
I learned Canada had no need to spy on the US pre-match training
The main lesson we can take away from this is that we suck. Poch will show whether it's Gregg's system or the players that deserve most of the blame.
Its also not easy to get motivated for a meaningless friendly tbf. Most players are more concerned with not getting injured.

I just stumbled upon your page and so far so good. For one thing, you haven't used any expletives unlike other Football pundits. I am looking forward to seeing more of your post! I can't wait til 2026!

Tact’s crazy thinking Backstreet Boys or NSYNC are bigger than the Beatles
He is a clown after all
That Backstreet Boys joke was probably the best I've heard all week. That alone made me put a like on this video. 😂
One thing I would like to correct (as a Canadian), is that Marsch coming in did not give the team a huge culture change. He has just built off of what Herdman did, and though we had a small rough patch before Marsch came in, it was Herdman that guided us to the top spot in World Cup qualifying. We've been a team on the rise for a few years and we are just going to continue that momentum.
Canada is increasing in depth, talent, chemistry, and confidence.
As a Canadian, I would say this is just a blimp, all teams have these types of games, we can look back on our team and find such times. We in CONCACF , need to improve, a strong Canada is good for everyone, and stronge USA is good for everyone, ETC ETC
Bored
Ultimately its a friendly game and players struggle to lift their game when theres nothing to play for. They’re more concerned with not getting injured so they can play for their clubs next week.
Whatever
It's not just a blimp. Right now the USMNT is in trouble along with the federation. Good luck to Canada
We learned that when you predict something wrong. You’re gonna ignore it. Like that match when Argentina won against Colombia.
I was right about that game.
I said if it went to ET, Argentina would win. Rewatch the video.
San Diego is gonna have a rough inaugural season with Varas at the helm
Hey coach youth soccer and my entire practice is dedicated to having fun and getting the most touch on the ball. We may not win every game, but my kids come back every year to play, and they play as hard as anyone else.
We really miss Dest, McKennie, Adams, Reyna, Weah, and Jedi.
True & Canada could really have used their usual starters, Tajon Buchanan, Ismael Kone, Sam Adekugbe & Johnston for most of that match.
I’ll tell you what I’ve learned, Pulisic is no where near the level of a Landon Donovan or even a Claudio Reyna. They would never allow the US team to play at this level….
Okay, boomer
It was the US Soccer board that hired Berhalter, that didn’t hire Marsch, and we’ll see what happens with Pochettino. Maybe the board has been the problem all along.
Bingo! It goes beyond the manager it's the USSF culture that is the problem.
Yeah, the US sucks. Instead of putting a band-aid on the problems by getting a new coach, maybe we should do better when it comes to player selection? A coach can only do so much, but we are so bad that I don't even think that Jose Mourinho could help.
Okay that's a bit if a stretch lol, a few key players were missing from the line up..Cardoso usually plays much better for his club
@@1972dsrai I disagree
Tac I’m crying
😭
In 2002, a group of Americans that included Gregg Berhalter as a player, went to the World Cup quarterfinals. (They lost 1-0 to Germany who was aided by a referee non-call of an obvious goal saving handball. No VAR replay in those days.) Who would not put money on that team against our current one?
First touch of US trained players vs every other country is a microcosm of the differences between the technical differences between us vs the rest of the world.
Spot on, Tac about Pochettino needing to change the culture - Priority 1.
COOKED, YOU'RE COOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also Malik Tillman looked much better and more comfortable this camp, next has to be Johnny
Couldn't aggree more about technical ability

@@TacticalManagercope 😂
😂😂 this is why i love this channel. This guy just retired Tim Ream😭😭 He buried Belhalter alive & and is still trying to bury his ghost and pals lol 😂😂
Optimism here.
I believe that the 'chip on the shoulder' mentality can be implemented.
If thats what made these players:
1. Want to challenge themselves in Europe in the first place
2. Fight for their place on their European team (whether thatd be starter or 30 min sub)
Then I'm confident a manager like Poch can re-instill that back into the national team picture.
Even tho GGG is gone, that cozy environment crept into the players' mindset and has become normal within the national team. It'll take time to erase that and instill that fight, and again, i believe Poch can do it.
unbelievable
We learned this team doesn't try hard enough
True, Canada bench players warmed with drills all 2nd half on the side line. Usa bench players just stood by the corner flag.
It was a friendly tbf. Its hard to lift yourself when theres nothing to play for and you’re more concerned about not getting injured.
I posted this on ESPN:
Casey Keller, where were you when they re-hired Berhalter?
Feels like the first time we didn’t hear “Hi, if you’re new here I’m Filippo”
Playing out the back is how we concede every goal. We need to change our play style

Brazil has all the futsal courts in the world and they have been mid since '14
Canada is playing with heart like the USA did in the mid-1990s and 2000s.
What did we learn? We learned that we are garbage.
lol at "we took the beatles down with the backstreet boys"
You need to come up with a better analogy than BSB took down the Beatles.
I thought towards the second half lund provided a lot offensively
What a sad waste of money for those in attendance. Canada played like they wanted to fight, and USMNT acted like Divas.
It was just a friendly tbf. Players rarely give everything in such games.
I don't think I've heard a more unhinged hot take on the Beatles and boy bands as that one...slow clap, tac
Christian Pulisic eats corn the long way!!!!!
We must have watched a different game, Lund was decent to me and Tillman was anonymous. I wasn't sure Malik was in the game until he was substituted.
Also, our central defense was poor. Ream looks like he did when he got pushed out before the 2022 WC

Is it just me or did this young generation with a lot of promise and players in Europe all get lazy and they didn’t live up to the hype.
Its a friendly. No one gives 100%.
