I have several seasons of the show and two copies of the movie, one still sealed in it's packaging with some included figures. I watched it since it first aired on The Tracy Ullman show in the 80s. Some disks got lost while I was deployed in the Army as many people would borrow the disks. I knew this show was going to end up being one of the greats from the start. Still love some of the orginal episodes for some great humor and memories. I have had the clamshell Homer head boxset for many years now. It's still perfectly intact for me and it sat for years sitting in a storage container.
Great video as always! I started a big re-watch of The Simpsons last summer on Disney+. Am currently on season 10, has been really fun watching it in chronological order. I'm not sure how long I'll keep going for, probably until I don't enjoy it anymore. I used to watch every week on Sky1, but gave it up around season 27. In terms of favourite seasons, I think it has to be season 8, with 2 and 5 being close runners up. Favourite episodes include A Star is Burns, Team Homer, and Homer at the Bat
I'd be interested to see where you get up to with the re-watch! Personally for me, season 23-24 is where I stopped watching weekly. I still tune in for the THOH or anniversary episodes. Otherwise, I've not watched the show properly in a very long time outside of these boxsets. Some excellent choices for favourites! Homer at the Bat always cracks me up.
Great review! I've recently gotten interested again in the Simpsons dvd/blurays. I dropped off after S10 on the DVDs, but really wish at least the first 10 were available on BluRay and was surprised at the lack of releases. I know the world is pushing streaming hard, but come on, the Simpsons is one of those big name shows, that I'd of thought deserved an all out physical media love. Debating re-buying at least the first 10 sealed, just to have as backups incase any of my old discs wear out or break. Your collection with the later sets all together looks cool though, bummer like you said that they didn't stay consistent and use the streaming page art through S20. Here's hoping for more DVDs and I really hope Blu Rays in the future. Maybe once the show finally ends they'll put out a mega set of everything?
Hi Dr Nick! Appreciate the kind words. :D For sure, very surprised more physical releases have not been explored - especially a Blu-ray upscale. Still, with all the DVD extras, I'd definitely recommend picking up the rest. S10 onwards isn't as bad as everybody says. Oh man I'd love a mega set for everything! Could you imagine the price?!
Great insight(s), mate. Couple of quick trivia-points; the episode where Sideshow-Bob "dies"; his father was voiced by the late John Mahoney who was Frasier's dad in the sitcom Frasier; you already (hopefully) know that David Hyde Pierce played Frasier's brother in the same show also voiced Cecil. I'll say this, Kelsey was BORN to be Sideshow Bob. Also, for the Gervais-written episode there was a special intro/ident filmed where a live-action version of the characters re-enacted(?) the intro that was commissioned(?) by Sky. Hope all is well.
Hope all's good, Chris. Appreciate you tuning in. Yes, some very fun trivia surrounding Sideshow Bob! I'm ashamed to say I still haven't seen Fraiser or Cheers in full. Defo something for the list. :)
Just wanted to let you know that you're probably the RUclipsr I've been watching the longest who still makes content today. You're a legend to me, and it makes me happy to see you still going strong in 2023. Keep up the great work, bro.
I love these and I enjoyed your commentary as well. Personally I have 1-17 and 20 on DVD as well as the movie on bluray, I still need to get around to buying 18&19 to complete it. I hope that one day they'll release a complete collection on bluray like most other popular shows get.
Great video mate. My favourite season is probably season 4. Some of my favourite episodes from that are Homer The Heretic, Itchy and Scratchy The Movie, Lisa's First Word and Homers Triple Bypass

Hmm. I originally had the same looking region 2/4 box of Season 1 - which is one of the many re-prints. Then I found the original print (in my own area language, which was the only one they ever did that way in my area) and it, like the UK original, has a rainbow-ish shine on it. This was quite interesting to note and now I have both pressings. Now if only I had the original local pressing of seasons 11 and 12 instead of a re-print with a changed age rating. (Sets in my area have an extra paper slip on the back with episode names and technical details.) On a technical note, of those sets, seasons 1-5 are both region 2 & 4, then seasons 6-10 are region 2 only, then from season 11 they are region 2 & 4 again likely up to season 17 and then 20 (have checked up in season order to season 15). Don't know about seasons 18 or 19, they never got to my area of Europe. (Of course one wouldn't know from the packaging, I have a disc analyzer to tell all this.) What annoys me greatly is that they changed the old closing logos to those modern ones from season 15 onwards (not counting season 20 into it as we all know it suddenly came around season 13 or so). At least the original aspect ratio is kept, which is always nice. Once saw that one station in my area aired those 4:3 episodes of season 20 stretched to 16:9.

Hi, if you want everything complete/uncut you might want to swap out the UK versions of season 1, season 2 and season 3 for USA versions! Season 1 USA has the original mono soundtrack option in every episode that is lacking on the UK release Season 2 has a censored audio commentary on episode Simpson and Delilah that is uncut on the USA release (moderate sex references to avoid a 12 rating) Season 3 has a censored audio commentary on episode Lisa The Greek that is uncut on the USA release (moderate sex references to avoid a 12 rating)
Yeah, they do look nice on a shelf though like this guy's collection. But, I only have 1-10 and don't feel a need to have anything else. I'd almost go you one further and just say 1-8 is all I really watch, but having up to 10 is a nice round number as well as the end of a box style before they changed it up again for 11.
It's funny, the only reason I ended up collecting Simpsons was because I haven't seen Stark Raving Dad on D+ so I saw a good sale for some seasons on DVD I had 1-2 when i was a kid but ended up selling them. Now all I need is 7-9-10 and 13 I'll just leave it there and snag the movie. But I definitely need to start on Futurama but debating maybe only the Fox Seasons since I have huge Adult Swim/2000s nostalgia haven't seen the CC run so I would like know if those seasons are worth it. Family Guy will definitely be short 8 seasons (I dropped out around that time with the occasional Road to Episode).

@@dvdreviewsstudios It is bizarre, as the Simpsons is popular with under 15’s. It’s puzzling how they couldn’t have cut out the offending extras in order to obtain the 12 rating.

Hi, if you want everything complete/uncut you might want to swap out the UK versions of season 1, season 2 and season 3 for USA versions!
Season 1 USA has the original mono soundtrack option in every episode that is lacking on the UK release
Season 2 has a censored audio commentary on episode Simpson and Delilah that is uncut on the USA release (moderate sex references to avoid a 12 rating)
Season 3 has a censored audio commentary on episode Lisa The Greek that is uncut on the USA release (moderate sex references to avoid a 12 rating)
Good call! Appreciate the recommendation, I'll look into that. Defo prefer having uncensored copies.
There's a humorous reason why season 6 homer box is so bad. "Kid Leaves Stoop" makes a great video about it.
