- We cruise the Hatteras Yacht from Southport, up the Cape Fear river and through the ICW. We spend a night in Wrightsville before leaving for Beaufort. We spend a couple days exploring the city, visiting an open air market, bar hopping and meeting You Tube fans.

Snow's Cut, where I ran us aground going north, and we couldn't get unstuck with the inflatable dinghy, And finally another yacht pulled us off. How could I forget!
Not sure why they don't just move the marker. At least we know about it now.
WOW what a ride. Loved It! That’s our journey each year. We take “Our Treasure” from Safe Harbor South Harbor Village to Beaufort the second week of August to spend a few days around the Pirate weekend there. A slip is cheaper than a hotel room that weekend LOL. The only difference is we run our Silverton 392 in one day (yes an 11 hour cruise in the summer) so we can have more time in Beaufort playing pirates. And yes Snows Cut is crazy shoaling So glad to see you had a chance to walk around Beaufort and you made it to the farmer’s market on a Saturday and to some of the best hang outs in the area. Beaufort is a great little town. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers and don’t forget “It’s a pirate’s life” 🏴☠️👍🍺
We really enjoy that part of the ICW. This was our first chance to visit Beaufort and we really like it there. We will definitely stop there again on our next trip.

Looked like a smooth easy stretch of ICW with no issues…. beautiful. Only problem being some closed restaurants ain’t too bad! Also, must recognize the prefect use of a Roger Out at 10:44 for the video transition, Lynn - Love it!!
Even thought I have retired to Thailand many years ago. I am from wilmington, my wife from Wrightsville beach and have a house on the ICW in Hampstead. I still love the view. #follow the vessel ahead of you
It is a nice part of the ICW. We may be heading to Phuket this Fall. We have never been to Thailand before.
My wife and I always enjoy watching from Australia. My wife has asked: can you please buy a matching fender and fill the empty forth holder on the bow. It plays real havoc with her OCD. Keep living our dream.
I'll let Lyn know. She keeps that fender in the salon and it drives me nuts. She likes to have it close by in case she needs it at the stern, which never happens!
Bridge tender Resturant is good… been there a long time. I usually dock by the Blue water grill, so I eat there. Dock side grill bar opens early
We always enjoy Bluewater. We were just looking for something new, but it did not work out.

Wrightsville Beach!!! I grew up there back in the late 60's early 70's. My Dad kept his boat at the Wrightville Beach Marina where you docked. It was nothing like it is now way back then. I have walked across that old drawbridge a million times. Even befriended one of the operators that would let us, as the kids we were, "help" him raise and lower the bridge. I also remember a large old plantation house that sat across from the lot where the Dock House Restaurant sits now. The lady that lived there her last name was Marsh and the lot where the Dock House is now she had a fleet of shrimp boats where we would buy fresh shrimp from her boats. So many good memories of that place. Loved seeing it again, thanks.

We always enjoy Bluewater. We were just looking for something new, but it did not work out.
If you're not a member of the waterway guide you should consider joining it . Then you'll get the alerts on all the shoaling points and the charth showing where they are.
We buy their books and visit their website from time to time. I did not know they give alerts.

We had a great experience cruising the Eastern ICW on no time schedule, seeing, smelling the countryside and meeting so many great people along the way. Sailcat Reality.
We love cruising the ICW as well. Exploring new towns and meeting new people is half the reason we bought a boat.
Great video, always take my kid to fish at the bridge in Wrightsville. Guaranteed to catch! Not the best fish but smiles on the kids is all I need to see.

Dockside was a great place when i was there 25 years ago 🤣🤣
Not so much these days. We live in the area, have visited most of the restaurants on Wrightsville. Things seemed to have changed at Dockside approx 4 years ago. Even Bluewater is not as good as it was 3-5 years ago. We visited Bluewater a lot, appeared to be a management change and things changed. After 3 bad experiences, we decided not to go back for a while, may try it again this Spring. Past 3-4 years we have been going to The Sailfish at Scotts Hill Marina, don't know how large of a boat they can accomodate
Sorry you missed the Bridge Tender @ Wightsville a nice restaurant we've eaten their many times and always enjoyed it.
I guess we had bad timing. Perhaps in the future.

The Coast Guard Stations in North Carolina are:
Station Elizabeth City
Station Oregon Inlet
Station Hatteras Inlet
Station Hobucken
Station Fort Macon
Station Emerald Isle
Station Wrightsville Beach
Station Oak Island
Station Ocracoke (Seasonal).
Come up on channel 16 and for instance say, "Coast Guard Station Oak Island, Coast Guard Station Oak Island, this is the Motor Yacht Triton, the Motor Yacht Triton, Channel 16 over".
Thanks for the info. We know the protocols, however, I was told by the marina that the coast guard was waiting on channel 22 for me. That's why I just picked up the mike and assumed they were there.
@@tryingnottosink9107 The watchstander at a station may have 3 or 4 radios monitoring different channels. 16 always and a working channel, then 13 in busy ports. They always monitor 16 though, even while on the working channel.

Two things I learned running a Hatteras 58 widebody; steer with the throttles, and turn off stabilizers when expecting tricky currents.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this video. We are making a switch over from RV'ing to boating, and your video has certainly got us quite excited about the change over. May we ask about some of the costs associated with boating like this. What does it cost, on average, to stay at a marina for an evening? And, what does it cost to stay an extended period of time (a month or more either on a slip or on a mooring)? And, finally, what does it cost, on average, to store a boat over the winter if you were to return to a winter region like New England or the Great Lakes? Thanks! Safe Journeys!

Can you explain your concern with 25 watts vs. 1 watt? What system are you referring to and why the concern?

You should always use 1 watt when communicating locally. Otherwise you would be hearing every conversation taking place at a very long range. This would cause chaos as people talked over each other. I couldn't figure out what why the Coast Guard would be asking to speak with me and I speculated that they were going to chastise me for using high power for local communication.
Nice music to give the mood of the trip👍 I especially liked the last number. What's the speed limit on those rivers, as there were quite a few fast boats towing toys! The guy walking across the water at 12:51 gives you a good idea of how well you need to read your charts😲😲
There is rarely a speed limit on the ICW. There are just "no wake" zones. Occasionally you will see a 25mph sign but not often. We cruise at 10 knots and slow to 6 in no wake zones.
We got passed by a foolish go fast at probably 100mph in the ICW.
@@GrantGrove That surprises me a little! The Thames in London used to be un limited downstream of Wandsworth bridge, I had a Phantom 21 with a 200hp Mercury outboard and had a few fun trips through there. Recently I got a ride with a friend through the Thames Barrier up to Central London and it's all 12Kn now and you need to call to pass through the barrier too!
Has anyone actually analyzed what is IN a boat moustache? We get it too, although somewhat more patchy. Think it is NOT growth but, rather, some sort of chemical/physical process generated by bubbles in the forward area as we travel. And not so easy to remove, either!
Whatever it is, it is a pain. I get the boat all waxed and shine before heading south and as soon as I hit the ICW in NC the boat looks like hell. I clean it when I get to Florida but the same thing happens on our way back to Philly. I have stuff to remove it but it also removes the wax and then it happens again even faster. I know it is caused by the tannin in the water, which makes it brown.
Happy to hear that the Coast Guard looking for Triton was a non-issue, however, doesn't it concern you that you hailed them and they didn't answer?
I was told by the marina dockhand that they were waiting for me on channel 22. That is why I was on that channel and not trying to officially hail them.

Just our luck. Honestly though, we almost never look at the tides on the ICW. Our draft is a little less than 5 feet and we can get through just about everywhere.

I have done that before. It just depends on the weather. I don't remember what it was that day but the waves must have been high enough that I preferred to be inside. By default, I prefer to be outside on that run.

If you say the name of the party you are calling first, they get alerted and listen to the rest of the message. “US Coastguard, US Coastguard - this is MV Triton ch 16”. you should never start with the name of your own vessel.
