Great video, but I wanted to mention that you have to pull on the torque wrench from the handle only. Otherwise you will have an incorrect torque reading.

great info got a question could we get tool girl SAM clothing sizes so we could send her some shop uniforms that are almost decent just a tad shady or completely decent with her choice in whether or not she wears them up to her
So when you adjust the outer wheel on the crown wheel,,you are setting preload, and you are setting the torq as well,,there is no torq setting on outer wheels of carrier bearing,,just preload
Hi Tom, the adjustment of the crown wheel bearings is used to both set pre-load & backlash on the crown wheel to pinion teeth - two very different adjustments. Cheers Andy
@@AndyMechanic exactly,,but as far as putting a torque wrench on the outer carrier bearings is not happening correct, but I have seen a torque wrench on a homemade looking deal that is set up like a spanner wrench with a nut welded in the middle,but if you are measuring preload at pinion ,it would b for no reason correct
There are a number of different ways manufacturers provide the specs for assembling a differential. Often, the preload set to the crown wheel bearings is measured at the pinion nut. The pinion bearing preload is set first, then the crown wheel, the additional torque required at the pinion nut to turn represents the preload set on the crown wheel bearings. I know it's very confusing but you can only measure based on the type of specs provided. Suzuki specs are different to Nissan & so on, however, the principle adjustments are the same. @@AndyMechanic yes it does,,this is on a Toyota 8 inch,,and every single video and forum says the same thing except for one,,and i went back and searched again and again, so I will continue with my setup,,without the aid of this tool,,when cranking down on the side crown carrier bearings, this will give you your preload measurement which will actually give you the correct torque on carrier bearings that is not actually measured,,we are measuring preload which is preload on pinion plus carrier bearing preload all measured at pinion nut,,,thank you so much for your reply’s,,

Put video numbers after title not first, speed up video on slow bits, and please above all else stop with the girls in skimpy clothes. I'm not trying to have a go, I wanna see your channel grow

I'll see if I can find the time to shift the video numbers to the end of the title - no easy task with almost 400 videos but I know where you are coming from with this. Yep. Will endeavour to stand further back...let's see if I manage to remember! Intro is only 40 seconds long, reduced from 60 on first version. When I make a new one later this year I'll aim for 30 seconds but that will be the minimum for me. Girls...well, currently only around 15 videos out of almost 400 have Tool Girls helping me out, less than 5%. It's going to increase a little to probably no more that 10%. I try to select videos where their assistance is actually helpful and, well, let's face it some of the viewers do like these videos....and to be completely honest, from time to time I too enjoy having Harley, Holley or Sam in the workshop. The channel is Andy Mechanic and as such it has to fulfil my aims of what the channel should be & Andy Mechanic has Tool Girls now and again. I really don't think you'll convince me to drop them completely but only 1 in 10 vids will feature a female assistant....Okay? Cheers again for your input here. Measuring preload should be the resistance of a rotating shaft, not the breakaway force required to start the rotation of the shaft.
11:00 Meh, better than my daddy's old torque wrench, i.e. turn it until it says "crack" and then quarter of a turn back.
