To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Tohru Adachi. His humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical society most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike tohru adachi truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in adachi’s existential catchphrase "cabbage cabbage bitches and whores" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian spermsons 4 doujin. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as adachi’s genius unfolds itself on their screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have an adachi tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. I remember hearing that, allegedly, the first draft of the game's story had Yukiko as the killer. Am I alone in thinking that would have made the game WAY more interesting?
It feels like proto-Yukiko character got split into two. - Adachi got the Killer role and being disatisfied with life in small city. - Marie got the angle of a girl with mental problems used by a higher being.
I heard that an early draft (though probably not the first one) actually had *Dojima* as the killer, but it was rewritten after playtesters disliked it
Not really, you kinda need to have understood the Jungian concept of a Persona in human relationships and the role of media in modern society. The opening of the non-golden version of the game is a fairly good summary.

The anime is surprisingly good. Almost entirely down to writing all of Yu's lines as the weird dialogue choices with top-notch delivery.
