Whoever the voice actress was for Velvet was fantastic. There's this one attack that sticks with me, I forgot the name, but it's one of the Break Soul abilities, and it has her using multiple vertical slashes while shrieking in absolute murderous rage. It's rare to have a Tales game put you in the place of a "villain" in the people's eyes. The characters were fun, the music is great and the battle system rewards you properly
Berseria is definitely my favourite too, I just wish there was a lot more polish on the area designs, as other than that I really can't fault this game for anything else. Story, gameplay, characters, voice acting and music were all fantastic. Makes me wish modding games like this was possible

I think it's kinda interesting how Melchior is the game's "real" villain, in that pretty much everything bad that happens can be traced back to him. I mean, doesn't it seem a *bit* too coincidental that he just happened to be there at the perfect moment to take advantage of Artorius' sadness and mental instability? To me it seems very likely he's the one who had Celica killed in the first place.
Melchior was able to transform people into Demons, the village was attacked because of mercenaries-turned-demons, Celica is (accidentally) sacrificed because of the attack. Melchior is "coincidentally" present in around the village. Yeah, Melchior is definitely a villain.
That's pretty much the conclusion I arrived at as well. Melchior is pretty much the archetypal shadow cardinal pulling the strings behind the stage. Very manipulative and willing to cross any line if that would serve his goal. Besides, what he did to Magilou to manipulate her into becoming his disciple is pretty similar. Also, since his specialty were illusion artes there's no telling what else he could've done to Artorious to shape him into the future Shepherd.
I also feel like he had a hand in having Celica killed since his appearance in front of Arthur after their deaths feels too suspicious. Plus it fits his worldview about humans being evil due to emotions.
@@rebelblade7159 Also, the dialogue after this flashback plays is interesting. Rokurou says that humans would do almost anything if they are convinced that it's the right thing to do. Berseria reignited my love for JRPGs a year back, it really changed my perception on the genre, and I've been on a JRPG train since, just playing as many as I can.
Tales Of Berseria is my favorite game of all time. I’ll never forget the tragic talk of Velvet Crowe. I always found it fascinating that Velvet realized that her whole revenge quest for Laphicet was actually pointless. It’s perfect because it creates a dynamic for her character as someone who did some really terrible things to people. It’s also cool that she taught malakhim Laphicet how to act like a human being. She’s someone who learns and acknowledges her mistakes at the end. She learns that she herself was actually the naive one to herself when she finally sacrifices herself and her brother who became Innominat for all eternity. Velvet is easily one of the greatest protagonists ever written and someone who has a lot of depth of character. I love her with all my heart. The Tales games will always have a special place in my heart for their great storytelling. Even though Tales Of Vesperia on the other hand was actually a complete letdown. I hate Yuri Lowell. Velvet is someone who’s close to my soul. By the way, it was also extremely interesting that Artorius also really was the one who suffered the most in the end. Poor guy lost his own wife and unborn son. That’s pretty sad. By the way, is there anyone who believes that this game was better than Persona 5? Persona 5 actually had some issues with it’s storytelling really. I enjoyed the game but some of it was pretty stupid. I hate the harem bull crap.
I enjoyed p5 but for its gameplay not for its story. Its quite predictable until almost the end. I don't take issues with the dating parts cause you can just chose to remain friends with every girl and it doesn't really affect the gameplay or the story
"Even though Tales Of Vesperia on the other hand was actually a complete letdown. I hate Yuri Lowell." YES I LOVE YOU, btw estelle is the cancer of all jrpg characters

Hands down one of my favorite story driven game. I like how Berseria presents itself as a revenge story only to become something more akin to a case study of human nature using the theme of emotion vs reason. Velvet fits the role of representing humankind perfectly: a pure person on the inside who became a vengeful monster due to events in her life while Laphicet is more of a blank slate observing stuff from a neutral point of view. The ending is also quite fitting for the story. Neither emotions nor reason win over the other. We see Artorius actually being driven due to the grief of losing Celica and his unborn child while Velvet and the others have valid reasons for opposing him. Also I find Berseria plot to be highly similar to Fate/Apocrypha with a similar theme of human nature and parallels like Artorius and Amakusa and especially Laphicet and Sieg. Except Berseria does every thing right while Apocrypha screws up to become a mindless action spectacle that shows a middle finger to its own themes.
A perfect representation of humankind is "a pure person on the inside who became a vengeful monster due to events in her life." So you're rooting for a terrorist? An enlightened person would've realized that revenge is pointless to begin with. Primitive societies, i.e., headhunting cultures all celebrate revenge. I don't think you even know what you're saying or that you even bothered to think of the implications of your statements.
@@turquoisemoon3654 Ever wonder why the Joker movie is praised by so many people? What I meant by Velvet fitting the role of perfectly representing human nature is by being an example of the dual nature of human morality. Just look at the world around you (or history in general) and it's pretty obvious that humans aren't an overly pure and saintly species as a whole. Evil isn't exactly an alien demonic being that good guys defeat in battle to vanquish. It's more complicated. Anybody can commit evil deeds if circumstances compel them. Like a person who needs money to feed his poor family may become a criminal to do so. Also you said revenge would be considered pointless by an "enlightened person." Ask yourself, are humans truly enlightened as a whole? I mean we are seeing lots of problems and stupidity in pretty much all parts of the world. It's pretty obvious they are not unless a person is either immature i.e a child or a lowest common denominator who can often be really ignorant and drunk on heroic black and white stories of "good" beating "evil." Not everybody is Jesus Christ or Gautam Buddha. Velvet does not represent the idealized version of humanity. Instead she serves to show the dual i.e grey aspect of human nature. People don't exactly cheer for Velvet because she is a "cool and edgy" revenge seeker. The story never glorifies that aspect of her and instead frames her from a neutral point of view. I don't find her actions justified but I do understand her perspective. She had lost her sister years prior and then someone she deeply trusted killed her own brother right in front of her in cold blood for his own agendas before locking her up in a prison. It's obvious the trauma got the better of her. And like I said, the story frames actions in a neutral way which can get people more invested with the story and characters. One of my favorite parts was how the story at one point seems to imply that the abbey might actually be the bad guys who are probably planning something like world domination behind their backs. But as you progress through the story and the Malak Taboo is broken, that assumption is shattered. It can make people question even more whether Velvet's quest is right or not. Plus that moment where she ends up killing Oscar and Teresa ends up really tragic thanks to how it was built up (remember how both Velvet and Teresa are shown to be good at making Quiche to draw a parallel between the two.). That scene is impactful both for Velvet and the audience. In the end, Velvet's character arc wasn't about getting revenge and chilling afterwards but instead she is able to overcome her trauma thanks to Laphicet and slowly revert back to her true self that Phi managed to understand despite her cold exterior. By the end of the story, Velvet confronts Artorius not out of hatred but due to the Shepard becoming a risk for all of mankind. And we see that Arthur shut himself off from emotions due to losing Celica, the trauma making him think only way to save humans is to make them emotionless logical beings. In the end, neither emotions nor reason wins. These are just some of the things that made Tales of Berseria really memorable to me. It has a plot that feels more like a case study of human nature hidden behind a revenge story. In order to truly enjoy Berseria, one must try to look beyond face value and actually think instead of turning one's brain off like any dumb action movie. It has much more depth and complexity with it's characters and themes than one would expect. But yeah, to each his own and some people prefer brain dead stories with perfect Gary Stu's because it gives them escapism.
Alright, fucking glad you made the reference to Zafina's Tekken 7 release. I made the same reference on twitter and everybody was like "huh, what's a Berseria?"
Easily my favorite JRPG. Sure all those other games came out a couple months after but honestly after Berseria they felt lacking. Sometimes I get the urge to go back and do a NG+ to see the story again, and I will never skip those cutscenes. Just the one of Velvet waking the Empyreans is absolute perfection. Also if you do some exploring during the suppressed will portion of the story you see some truly horrific stuff.
For the most part I love the English dub, but some voices for a few characters were off. Phi's was good for the most part, but with some dialogues, like the ship side quest dialogue, sounded wooden. Kamoanas was just hilarious to me. Bienfu's also sounded pretty bad. Everyone else I enjoyed though
Honestly, same here, I really love the english dub for this game ngl i think the main cast was done really well (I'll admit, i'd have to replay to say for sure but i remember liking it quite a lot xD) kamoana was a decision that had been made
This game IS a gem, it took me 3 months to complete it and it was years since i was this addicted to a game. And its the characters and the story that steal the game(combat to) but i the massive size of the game is what really amazed me. So praise the game to the sky! Now only to hope the next tales game can compare to this.
I love this game for all it's quirks and twists on classic RPG stuff.Especially since Artorius is just your standard good guy who chose to damn the world instead of saving it.
This was my first tales game and I just finished it this weekend. I can't stop thinking about it and I've binged through the Zestiria anime but that didn't help because now I want MORE. I love this world and REALLY can't wait for Arise (I know it's not the same universe / settings but that's okay). I'm honestly terrified to go back to previous titles because Berseria and the Zestiria anime hit me so hard in the feels I've got the worst post game depression I've ever had. Velvet is my favourite character ever.
I love this game, I ADORE VELVET. SUCH AN AMAZING CHARACTER. I will remember fondly the moment she destroyed that priest by ‘confessing her sins’ and That talk they all have with Laphicet about Women and their venomous motives, pretty ballsy in this day and age. I also love the lack of romance, Velvet’s personality (and everyone else’s really) are made in such a way she has no need for a lovey dovey sub plot. 9/10 for me. Also is Artorius the Owl from AOT?
My first Tales game ever... Gotta say, the guy who wrote the banter events is a f*ckin' genius, and deserves to be hired in every new entry in the series henceforth...
Ram Zaes, thanks man. I just beat the game a few minutes ago, and I'm feeling the feels right now. I probably would have never played this game if you hadn't recommended it to me. Just thanks man.
It’s funny how Velvet hates cats considering how Heldalf, one of the many Lord of Calamities who would come after her, takes on the appearance of a humanoid lion
I thought rewatching Tales of Berseria would make me angry because of the ending after beating it.......nope the smile is still on my face. I love this game so much that it was the second PS4 game I bought with my new PS4 and man, I can't wait for Tales of Arise. Nice job with these two ToB videos, because of you I watched that funny video of Velvet and Artorus yelling at each other and slap fighting lol, since I beat the game and stockpiled a lot of grade, I may replay it again, and speaking of Velvet......she is best girl/best waifu and give Cristina Vee and the rest of the voice cast a round of applause! Oh and cheers to one of my favorite games!
This is my first Tales game and I loved everything except the bland level design and the feeling that the ending was shackled by the fact that it's a prequel. The ending really does leave a sour taste in my mouth, because I wanted to play more games with these characters.
I think the story was leagues ahead of the gameplay. It’s nothing mechanically special really and the level design was blah. The skits and the way the characters played off of each other is what kept me playing
wow you actually made another vid about this lol I'm so glad to see ppl who share my love and enthusiasm for this game, it's by far one of the best games I've ever had the chance to play and it's still my n°1 favorite so far. It'd take me paragraphs to describe how I feel about it but let's just keep it short, I was also saddened at the fact that this game didn't get as much attention as the other titles during the same year, very unfortunate or badly handled timing from the marketing team I guess although I recall they tried to avoid publishing near the big titles' releases but welp we all saw how that played out. Though it still managed to pass the 1 million sales at least so there's that and now I'm waiting so impatiently for Arise ! Once again love your edits & humor fam keep it up 😄
@@cipher0334 Yeah, a lot of tales fans always hold Vesperia as the best. It's good but it's not even close to my favorite, I have issues with the story and some of the gameplay like you said and most of the characters are good. My favorite tales games are Graces f and Xillia 2 imo.
Cipher033 eh the characters are terrible excluding the protagonist who is the best in the series, people say there’s no story but there is, it’s just a multi arc story and the arcs don’t tie together much, the gameplay itself is a better version of symphonia and abyss
@@perrydunetz882 I agree with you on the gameplay and the story, but imo the villains are kinda weak (story wise) and forgettable. I sorta agree with on the cast compared to most other tales games, my least favorite being Estelle because she's a terrible main girl for Yuri tbh, who would believe a guy like Yuri would put up with half the stuff she does, let alone attach himself to her.
Oh yeah and to those who really love this game and wanna take it to the next level I recommend using 2 easy to use mods: ReShade and Tales of Berseria v1 Plus 22 Trainer. The first gives you an amazing graphical update, much better than the original and the second allows you to have cool perks like infinite souls for a more fluid & less irritating combat gameplay (though you still have to increase the max count like usual) and increased move speed when you need to backtrack or sprint through an area (the speed bonus is decreased if you use the trainer with a mod like ReShade or TBFix unfortunately but still handy). It also allows for more upgrades to your equipment that'd otherwise require insane grinding.
I've played, in the order I've played them: Xillia1&2, Symphonia and Dawn of the New World, Zestiria, Berseria, and Vesperia. In terms of gameplay style, I think Xillia is the best entries. However, Velvet has one of the best journeys of the series. Symphonia felt too much like FFX to me(which I played first) and Zestiria took away that blur of intentions and made it good vs evil. Berseria was a return to that, and was AWESOME.
This was only my second Tales of game, my first being Vesperia a few years ago, and holy hell, Berseria absolutely blew me away. An absolute must play JRPG in my opinion.
Ah dont know why but I got so much enjoyment out of this game and one of my top fav Tales game right under Abyss. (Loved the art/"magic" system in that game)
God Tales of Arise looks like it's going to be AMAZING. The Tales series got a new producer after Zestiria who made Berseria and that's who is doing Arise and the new phone game, Crestoria. Loving the new dark themes that they seem to going for under this new producer.
Hey ramzaes here some more precision about the ending. Spoilers ahead: Eleanor can still see malak and demons as shown with still seing rokurou as a demon at the end. So safe to say she assume the role of the shepherd and try to keep the balance between light and darkness. Which lead to the change of the shepherd duty for zestiria. Magilou basically becomes the 1st story Teller of time. That is explain in zestiria. It's also a theory that Rose from zestiria is a descendant of rokurou as he is the last person knowing the rangetsu style which is basically how Rose fight.
First and only Tales game I've played and loved every minute of it. Hell, I only played it thanks to the two episodes featuring it in Tales of Zestiria the X being the best part of the entire anime
Berseria is such a great game. I played it before Zestiria, which I also just finished, and it’s really impressive how natural of an evolution it is for the series. I really hope that the next flagship Tales game is heavily based around Berseria’s gameplay.
Fantastic review/content on Berseria. It's so UN-Zestiria, which is bizarre since they're in the same universe. I started replaying Zestiria last night (a fool's errand) and I'm seeing so many little plot holes and bits of lore than Berseria changed to "fix" the world and make Berseria excellent. I'm also looking forward to Arise, though I don't know how it could possibly delight me as much as Berseria.
Guess the next step in this world is to have the two winners, Soray and Velvet come into conflict with one another each holding a god. Of course then you need a new antagonist to cause problems for everyone, break the devouring loop, materialize the hero, get a new party for the villainess . . . That's going to be a lot of work.
I stepped out of the Tales games after Xillia 2. Then I've played this game and i gotta say, it definitely has brought be back to the Tales Of series again. :) Looking forward to Tales of Arise! :D
Fun fact: Edelgard from Fire Emblem Three houses was supposed to be voiced by Cristina Valenzuela or Christina vee aka Velvet's VA, if you listen to the first Three houses trailers you can tell it was voiced by Velvet's VA. But she was replaced by Tara Platt in the end. Also, if you like customisation and anime so much I'd reccomend playing Code Vein which is amazing and has a ridiculously large choice when it comes to character customization.

I enjoyed p5 but for its gameplay not for its story. Its quite predictable until almost the end. I don't take issues with the dating parts cause you can just chose to remain friends with every girl and it doesn't really affect the gameplay or the story
Weird how you have issues with an OPTIONAL path in P5. That’s not even what the game is about.
I think Tales Of Berseria was better than Persona 5, seriously. And the animation Persona 5 is really bad
"Even though Tales Of Vesperia on the other hand was actually a complete letdown. I hate Yuri Lowell." YES I LOVE YOU, btw estelle is the cancer of all jrpg characters
@@aiharakotokorulesbluerose4170
Patty is Worst Cancer!
I hate Patty.
In Vesperia:(My Opinion)
Yuri:Legend
Raven:Good
Rita:Good
Karol:More or Less
Judith:bad
Flynn:Wtf
Estelle:Wtf
Patty:Wtf! I Hate She!
Repede:I no Like.
Conclusion:I prefer Berseria
More 40 minutes od RamZaes talking about one of my top 5 games?! Best sunday ever!!!
RUclips deleted most of this games ost 😭
So great to see someone gush so long and passionately about what has become one of my absolute favorite games by far. I recommend it to everyone lol
26:26 even Velvet's surprised at the power of cutscenes.
40 MINUTES RAMZAES YOU MADMAN
10:00 Magilou goes down, but Laphicet's feeling up!
Also if you do some exploring during the suppressed will portion of the story you see some truly horrific stuff.
god, I LOVE this game
The one thing i didn't need to be reminded of was Kamoanas voice xDDD
Her japanese voice is way better
For the most part I love the English dub, but some voices for a few characters were off. Phi's was good for the most part, but with some dialogues, like the ship side quest dialogue, sounded wooden. Kamoanas was just hilarious to me. Bienfu's also sounded pretty bad. Everyone else I enjoyed though
Honestly, same here, I really love the english dub for this game
ngl i think the main cast was done really well (I'll admit, i'd have to replay to say for sure but i remember liking it quite a lot xD)
kamoana was
a decision
that had been made
Honestly, Code Vein is that way for me. Two months later and I’m still just as obsessed with it as when I first found out about it.
Velvet really was an awesome character, I absolutely loved her.
This game IS a gem, it took me 3 months to complete it and it was years since i was this addicted to a game.
And its the characters and the story that steal the game(combat to) but i the massive size of the game is what really amazed me.
So praise the game to the sky!
Now only to hope the next tales game can compare to this.
This along with Persona 5 are the best RPG's of 2017.
I love this game for all it's quirks and twists on classic RPG stuff.Especially since Artorius is just your standard good guy who chose to damn the world instead of saving it.
Phi's epic roast is perhaps the greatest line from a side-kick child character in all of gaming
Tales of series is underrated.
Also Velvet is literally female Ragna the Bloodedge.
With Noel's voice.
Also Eleanor has Ryuko matoi from Kill La Kill.
10:02:
Magilou: **Puke**
Laphicet: *Y A Y* :D
XDDDD
Thanks for the awesome video. This is my favorite JRPG of this generation, and my favorite Tales game.
Magilou best girl.
She can be on top any day!
my favourite youtuber talking about my favourite game for 40 minutes? 10/10 will watch again
the ending makes me cry every time
wow you actually made another vid about this lol I'm so glad to see ppl who share my love and enthusiasm for this game, it's by far one of the best games I've ever had the chance to play and it's still my n°1 favorite so far. Once again love your edits & humor fam keep it up 😄
Literally was just recommend to try out Tales of Vesperia
Vesperia is one of the better games in the franchise much better than this one, Xillia is my personal favorite
Perry Dunetz really? I’d heard that it has aged quite poorly both in terms of story and combat
If I had known that the "WILL YOU STOP WHINING" scene would be here, I would have played this and the sequel
My guy, I've got zero time to play video games, so if you take series like this and explain the story I will take my nonexistent spare time and watch
On moments I laughed out loud and then at the end i shead some tears... this game is amazing!
Yes!! So glad to see more love for this absolute masterpiece!!
40 min of ram = happy day
I watched this a year ago, and it was just as entertaining the second time around. Thanks, RamZaes! =D
Ah dont know why but I got so much enjoyment out of this game and one of my top fav Tales game right under Abyss. (Loved the art/"magic" system in that game)
I remember playing this game over the summer and it made cry a lot with its story lines but I enjoyed it a lot
God Tales of Arise looks like it's going to be AMAZING. The Tales series got a new producer after Zestiria who made Berseria and that's who is doing Arise and the new phone game, Crestoria. Loving the new dark themes that they seem to going for under this new producer.
Always glad to see Tales games get some love, Berseria wasnt anywhere close to my favorite Tales game but it was a solid entry.
As someone who LOVES Tales of Xillia, I loved the side quest based around it in this game. I was smiling ear to ear the entire time. I love this game.
Velvet has been one of my favorite characters since 2017 as well as rokurou.
Berseria is pretty great tbh.
Velvet's dove impression tho XDXD
Hey ramzaes here some more precision about the ending.
Spoilers ahead:
Eleanor can still see malak and demons as shown with still seing rokurou as a demon at the end.
@@aoffydosy1530 that part though has nothing to support it... Except Rose color of hair which isn't a good support point
First and only Tales game I've played and loved every minute of it. Hell, I only played it thanks to the two episodes featuring it in Tales of Zestiria the X being the best part of the entire anime
Indeed, except for the two episodes of TOB that attracted me。 The animation of the remaining episodes of Zestiria X is boring
Armatized Lord of Calamity final boss in Zestiria was far harder to beat than Armatized Shepherd final boss in Berseria
Ngl velvet is my favorite female protag in a video game , unless in forgetting some other female protag
Reminder that Kamoana's english voice is Silque from Fire Emblem Echoes. She sang Heritors of Arcadia.
The FUCKING outfits is really what I love the most about this game sooooooooooooo much.
I still wish baseria got its own anime
yes,i hope so
Berseria is such a great game. I played it before Zestiria, which I also just finished, and it’s really impressive how natural of an evolution it is for the series. I really hope that the next flagship Tales game is heavily based around Berseria’s gameplay.
The fuckimg dolphins just adds to the layers I Love it
The irony is, I just clicked, "Lets redownload this in steam" and flicked to RUclips to find this vid. Totally everywhere!
just finished this game the other day and I'm still getting ptsd from the final dungeon SO MANY DOORS
I bought this game and Dragon Quest 11 on the same day a few months ago, it was the most fun I’ve had with RPGs in a long time (:
Guess the next step in this world is to have the two winners, Soray and Velvet come into conflict with one another each holding a god. Of course then you need a new antagonist to cause problems for everyone, break the devouring loop, materialize the hero, get a new party for the villainess . . . That's going to be a lot of work.
Magilou is best girl!
Velvet is wife material!
LOVE DAT GAME!
Eleanor so pretty. Maybe i can call her Best Girl
one of the greatest rpgs of all time
I stepped out of the Tales games after Xillia 2.
Also, if you like customisation and anime so much I'd reccomend playing Code Vein which is amazing and has a ridiculously large choice when it comes to character customization.
its my favorite story based video game of all time, and i bought it in the 2018 steam winter sale as a sort of "why not" kind of purchase. Didnt expect much of it, but damn this game is dark and deep af
This is pretty much TOB and it’s over 40 mins?! Lol! Someone loves this. I barely started it before TOA came out. I should probably get back to it.
Was legit looking at art for this game on danbooru when this got uploaded
But bruh, it's NNN, unless it is just sfw art
FUCKING THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VDIEO, I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUUCCH STILL. I will always refer back to it whenever I can as well, I dont fucking shut up about it.
So we shall continue with this Tales of Berseria! So nice seeing my preview comment in the video.
I want to scratch my ears out anytime Kamoana talks. And god save your hearing senses anytime Kamoana cries, which she unfortunately does a lot of
I'm so glad I didn't ignore the GameStops TV that day. They played the trailer and I knew it would be my perfect entry into the series, I decided to preorder the game and I'm glad I did.
I'm gonna continue my NG+ soon and maybe do some trophy hunting
I laughed way too hard at that Death Stranding joke.

It's easily one of my favorite JRPGs. I do like how you compare it to FFXIII as well. That game gets way more hate than it deserves but Tales of Berseria definitely beats FFXIII by a long shot.
Had an anime? Zestiria actually covered bits from this game in their anime. probably for Lore of the world for newcomers.
