We have similar thoughts and cleaning methods. Vinegar is a good idea, i never considered using it, i would not figure it would be harsh enough to work! I use brasso or liquid bar keepers friend for the brass, both work great! I use a light soapy dawn/water to clean off canvas too, or alcohol free baby wipes. I have had very good success with using apple care brand cleaner and conditioner for canvas and leather. I always condition the entire piece first. Then go in with cleaner, not spot cleaning but over entire leather portion, as i find spot cleaning often damages the item. I then go back over with more conditioner. Then let dry for 12-24hr before repeating as necessary. This is my tried and true method. I use cotton tees, too. The only time I have damaged something with this method is when i used a microfiber towel and rubbed really hard on one of the handle chaps in an effort to spot clean. I have a couple speedies I cleaned this way and a Trotteur and they look way better. Enjoyed this video!
Thank you for sharing your own methods! Vinegar can be harsh is true, but as long as it's diluted, I've found it works very well. It also helps disinfect and deodorize, which I like.
This was very interesting. Something to keep in mind for future! If you do end up fixing any cracks/sealing, that would be great if you can do a video on how you do that. Thanks for sharing xx
That was a very good guide, thank you! I'm less intimidated by buying more worn bags now that I know they can be cleaned up and how to do it. It's sad to see all the mistreated bags for sale.
I have used Brasso for hardware, never knew there was another way. I have a 1990 LV Speedy I love. It was my 1st LV and I am going to rehab it your way. You are inspiring me to get started, thank you.
Sorry to comment on an old video, but I wanted to say thanks. I just purchased a vintage coated canvas Longchamp bag with leather trim on Mercari. It looks so much spiffier after I used your method. It's funny how a little attention goes a long way in making something look valued/valuable. I got it super cheap, but it sure looks good now! Before I found your video, I watched a ton of canvas cleaning videos that recommend using an oil-based sealant on the canvas and/or cleaning the canvas before conditioning the leather. I'm sure a sealant can give nice results a few times, but PVC is oil based as well, so I'd think over time there could be degradation, since oil reacts to oil ... not to mention that you're usually just sealing in dirt with those kinds of products anyway. And don't get me started on bringing any kind of liquid near vachetta when it's very thirsty! So, again, thanks for bringing some common sense!
I bought a 98 crossbody and it came in dirty so I grabbed my leather conditioner with bees wax I just put a tiny bit to get the spot saw. Did I mess up?
Thank you so much! For Chanel lambskin, it shouldn't need much unless it's very very dry. Rubbing over it with the oils in your fingers can still work wonders
I know! I’ve tried everything and watched videos and nothing works. I was hoping there was a magic solution that I was unaware of. It’s so frustrating!
Thank you! For smells I do have a (very very old 😅) video on what might help, but if the smell is quite strong and nothing else has worked, the best thing for it would be letting it "air out" in a cold place (like a garage in the winter). It could take up to a month or so for this to dissipate the smell, but it hasn't failed me yet!
I always find these videos so relaxing. I'm curious, do you ever consider asking LV about changing out leather? Is that something you would only consider if the handles cracked or something extreme?
I have, but it's a pretty expensive process, often more than I've bought my bag for. If the leather was severely damaged I might (usually that means buying a "junk" bag for VERY inexpensive, to offset the fact that LV would charge like $600 to fix it up).
Oof, I'm glad I watched this because I just ordered the Coach Leather Moisturizer for my Chanel CF...I didn't know that it had silicones! Is there a leather conditioner that you would recommend for Chanel (pebbled)?
Thank you for watching! Chanel it really depends. What color? Some products can darken lighter colored leathers. And if it doesn’t feel dry, just handling your bag can really do wonders!
@@classicswithaquirk Thank you for replying! It is the black caviar (medium CF). I saw a lot of people on Purseforum using Cadillac conditioner or Leather Honey for their caviar items.
Very informative video. I just bought a Neverfull MM mono and it has a smell in the inside. How do I get this smell out? I also notice the smell is also on the canvas. Smells like perfume or a fruitty smell.
I would recommend cleaning it first, and then trying to lift the smell with baking soda or charcoal packs. There are also UV lights you can buy that do great jobs!
Hi, how would you condition a Louis Vuitton leather bag. I have a black leather chain Louise bag and was wondering if leather cpr would also be good for that one
Hello Dear Loved your videos ! Thanks for sharing interesting and useful tips. World Love to see a video on how to seal vachetta leather please. Also, do you know how to get rid of hand sanitizer stains on vachetta leather ? Thanks !
I would say hydrate the vachetta every few months. If you don't use your bag often, it shouldn't need to be cleaned more than once or twice a year but if you use it a lot, cleaning the canvas a bit more often won't hurt 🙂
Hello, How do you know there is no silicon in this product? They have not advertised the ingredients. I called them and the lady said that she's not allowed to disclose the ingredients, said the formula is a trade secret. Also she said that most of the other products are water based but CPR is not. That was good to know. Thanks for the video, very informative :)
I started using leather CPR several years ago, on recommendation from other people in the rehab community, and at the time the company stated there was no silicone in their product. I didn't realize they no longer do! I'll have to look into this 🤔
I have this same bag unfortunately nothing will remove the water stains on the leather and make all the leather one color. This is what bothers me the most. So I have retired the bag although much loved
I haven't found a method to remove very dark water stains once they've set into the bag, but if you don't mind the risk, you can try spot wetting the bottom a bit at a time to at least get it all more a uniform color.
Hi, this does not have anything to do with this topic, but I thought it was important to know what you think about LV Repair new policy in Philippines it’s horrible. If you have a chance to watch “New policy on Repairs at Louis Vuitton Philippines” I hope that does not happen here in the USA
I would also use conditioner on the canvas because that too can crack. Never use Brasso on the hardware because its not brass and will take the color right off the hardware and it will be bare metal
People need to remember that wet wipes have a lot of water in them. Water damages leather. It actually dries it out! So condition your leathers BEFORE cleaning it, and wipe off any Ho2 as soon as possible and condition again! :)
The Cabas was such a beautiful bag. Truly a classic.. hopefully they bring it back, one day. ❤

Hi, do you know how to get rid of brasso marks on the vacetta, as it’s left like a dark marks on the handles from when I was cleaning the metal

I would never use vinegar, it dries out whatever it touches.
It was therapeutic watching you clean, as well as informative. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the video, I just bought my first LV and I appreciate having the info to be able to take care of it through the years 😊
As a former leather artisan for LV , I recommend a white wash cloth
I definitely use only white!

girl. That *yutulu* bag, you look great carrying it! ! I like it! 😍😍
How do you seal the cracks?
This HIDUPZ tote is beautifully colored, very sturdy and the perfect size. Not too small, not too big.
That was such an informative and helpful video, dear. Sending lots of happy vibes and well wishes. Thank you so much for sharing. 😃❤

You're welcome! I finally got to it 😁
Thank you for another informative and helpful video!!

Did you ever make a video for sealing a crack? Thank you for the tips!
I’m sure this is a dumb question, but does this mean canvas does not need hydrated?
Coated canvas is non-porous 🙂 it can't absorb conditioners. And I haven't made a video on sealing cracks yet but it's on my list!
@@classicswithaquirk thank you! Good to know!
This was a great video, thanks for showing the process and recommending products.

What kind of soap do you use in your water mixture to clean the canvas? Thanks!
Well worth the effort! Thank you for the tutorial! Personally I find it easier to clean a bag when it´s fully stuffed.
