Maybe because he is not in the original trilogy or any other canon material that takes place after Rebels ? Every character has to die at some point. Just be glad George brought him back in the first place.
Den Greene I know you've a piont. And I'm aware I'm scratching glass. I just was surprised how much I liked him and how sad I felt at them ending him. I'm way desensitized and stuff doesn't effect me often stupid a thing as it may of seemed.
Star Wars Theory you sir, deserve a place on a council. If I ever become a lead writer for lucasfilm and Disney, which I aspire to someday, I will give you your own live action series.
I think it would be a excellent idea if Disney made a Palpatine origin film based on the Plagueis novel. Basically without the Legends filler, but Luceno's primary storyline featuring both Plagueis and a younger Palpatine on his rise from apprentice to master.
Fully agree, instead theya re looking to do a Han Solo movie....Palpatine's story needs to be told.

Cylus Stephen - And if they created both, it's guaranteed the story of Plageius with Palpatine's rise to power would far outsell the story of Han Solo.
I am very amazed by this interview. Ian McDiarmid clearly really knows his character inside and out, his answers were very insightful. He clearly cares a lot for the role he played, great video.
Ian McDiarmid was one of the best things about the prequels. Those films were far from perfect, but I think they really rounded out Emperor Palpatine's character. Ian may have chewed the furniture a bit but damn it was in the best way possible.
Sidious earned the right to chew the scenery, his massive plan suceeded, he fucking won and got basically everything he ever dreamed of I can't imagine the joy the felt. But yeah Palpatine is IMO the single most entertaining character in the first two trilogies, he's great, weather he's openly a total evil asshole or a subtle manipulator he just works perfectly.
As great as Ian and Ewan are in their own right, I feel like they gave the best performances in the prequels because they both had a great original trilogy performance to use as a reference when playing their character. Everyone else just had George telling them what to do. Great actors like Liam Neeson and Samuel L. Jackson were reduced to talking like robots because they had nothing else to go off of. The young actors drew the worst hand though. They got the worst dialogue and didn't have a good enough reputation at the time to fall back on. It killed Hayden's career, damaged Portman's for a bit and completely fucked up a little boy's mind because people were mocking Jake Lloyd for something he had no control over.
Far as I know there are a few decades from Episode 3 to Episode 4. Rogue One proved that spin offs can exist here in the timeline, so why not get The Emperor into one or two :D
As long as they make the Darth Plagueis novel canon, or don't touch the subject around that timeline at all, I'm all for it, because that book is one of the best things to come out of the entire EU.
Ryan Keaton - IMO, Ian McDiarmid is the type of actor comparable to the likes of Sean Connery. Very eloquent, and has that certain something only people from England & the United Kingdom posess. It can't be said completely in words, but you have to be in their presence to detect it.
vigilante bird don't worry mate he's just a troll who's not even a star wars fan because as we know true star wars fans love all of star wars not just the original trilogy
It's great whenever he talks about how nobody had no idea Sidious and Palpatine were the same person, I remember that being spoiled for me when senator Palpatine was on a sticker or card or something then I thought "hang on, the emperor action figure calls him Emperor Palpatine" and that was the dots connected for me and for quite a few of my friends as well, we'd all worked it out from the toy line
"They drive the wind machines at you. It looks best for the hair." Yes. The glorious hair of Ian McDiarmid and Samuel L. Jackson. Truly men we can identify by their flowing locks.
Ah Ian McDiarmid what a class act guy! He's always been my favorite SW character. When we were kids and everyone wanted to be Han or Luke etc, I was always intrigued by the Emperor and that was my choice to play. Thanks Ian for giving me so much fun growing up! You sir are a true inspiration to me and you seems like a wonderful fella too! All hail to the Emperor :)
Saw Ian onstage in his play 'Faust x2' at my local theatre in Berkshire a few weeks ago and he was just as forceful and magnetic there as he is in these films. Brilliant actor. Brilliant man.
Haha. Just so that everyone knows I'm not actually taking what he says that seriously and am open to the idea of Palpatine somehow coming back but I don't really see much need for it either.
There seriously needs to be a Palpatine stand-alone film. Ian McDiarmid has earned it, hands down. I’ve had the opportunity to meet Ian several times already and he’s such a classy gentleman who’s such an absolute sweetheart. He’s one of my all time favorite actors and The Emperor is my favorite Star Wars character.
This was a fun panel to attend and I added it to my vlog. Ian is such a nice guy, how did he ever get cast as the most evil man in the galaxy?! I loved the John guy sitting in the side bleachers as the "sub-par" Emperor! Wish the pre-show was included in this video!
When it comes to these type of interviews and as a person I just love mark hamill and ian mcdiarmad the pair always give great insight and I could watch them and listen to them on this for hours
Snoke doesn`t have anything on palpy. Bring back the true leader of the dark side!! (2020 edit) , my god they brought him back, but in true Disney fashion they managed to screw it up. Congrats Disney, you rock!
Archaon The Everchosen How do we know that Snoke called out to him? It wasn't explicitly said, was it? Also isn't the prevailing theory that Gallius Rax is Snoke?
2:40- Huh, so 8 year old me was not the only one who was shocked when I found out the young Emperor, Darth Sidious, was the same person as Chancellor Palpatine. That was a plot twist for me when I first saw it (I was too young to know of the EU stuff, where Palpatine was known as his name since the OT.)
Palpatine is among the greatest villains of all time and my top favorite alongside Saruman the White. Masterfully brought to life by Ian McDiarmid. Wonderful.
he was great this was so much fun, love to see him enjoying it. Am bummed nobody asked him to say" I AM THE SENATE!! " best line ever, i would have lost it . but had a blast regardless, much love to you Ian.
Wow!!! What a lovely man. Saw him on TV in the Professionals playing mis-understood madman Mickey Hamilton (don't recall the episode but it was around 1980 I think) - whoever thought he'd play such a different type of role? Amazing and diverse talent. Respect.
Palpatine spinoff movie with Godfather part II format. Half of movie is about Sidious as the master of Vader and the Jedi purge, the other half a flashback to his training under plagueis
Such a gentle and soft spoken man in real life yet he can transform into the epitome of evil in an instant. That takes real talent. His portrayal of Palpatine in The rise of Skywalker is possibly his best yet. Genuinely frightening & chilling.
Here we can have a view of Mr McDiarmid's feelings. A great man indeed. And I've also been enjoying Warwick Davis' skills. A really nice -must keep- video. Thanks
I also thought he forgotten the line, but the way he respond using Sidious' tone of voice, I'm sure he knew the line but didn't want to say it. He would have sounded much of an actual politician; which is something that Sir McDiarmid seem to truly have a disdain for.
I wish I've been there, I would have asked him if he had ever read James Luceno's beautiful novel _Darth Plagueis_ where Palpatine's backstory, about his rivalry and hatred for his father, about meeting the Dark Lord, being manipulated by him to kill his entire family, getting trained in the ways of the Dark Side, rising to prominence, being elected Senator and finally killing his Master the day before becoming Supreme Chancellor, are greatly analyzed. A pitty nobody asked and a shame that the novel is now non-canon.
I don't know about you, but i was never, never fooled about senator palpatine / sidious. Anyone else? Knew all along, but that wasn't the point - seeing the unfolding was executed amazingly (displaying Sheev's intricate orchestration to come to power)
He was the best part of the prequels; incredibly over the top but entertainingly so, and he made it fit within the films themselves. Would love to see him come back to the films in some fashion.

Disneyland Experience Disney Why? Why did you kill Maul? His fan base is next to Vaders? WHY?!
You do know that Vader is dead too, right?
Maybe because he is not in the original trilogy or any other canon material that takes place after Rebels ? Every character has to die at some point. Just be glad George brought him back in the first place.

Star Wars Theory - The Emperor can be a good Shakespearean villain
Love your chanel :)
Aaaaayyyy star wars theory!
Star Wars Theory you sir, deserve a place on a council. If I ever become a lead writer for lucasfilm and Disney, which I aspire to someday, I will give you your own live action series.
doomaga1 but we will not grant you the rank of master
It's nice to hear Ian loves the Plagueis story just as much as the fans.
I think it would be a excellent idea if Disney made a Palpatine origin film based on the Plagueis novel. Basically without the Legends filler, but Luceno's primary storyline featuring both Plagueis and a younger Palpatine on his rise from apprentice to master.

Cylus Stephen - And if they created both, it's guaranteed the story of Plageius with Palpatine's rise to power would far outsell the story of Han Solo.
MegaChris People love evil character's.
Yes that would be cool. Palpatine, Ian McDiarmid, was the best thing about the prequels.
I can't believe they fit the entire senate onto one stage
John Anon 😂😂😂😂😂
Lol
Authoritarianism makes wonders 🤣
I am very amazed by this interview. Ian McDiarmid clearly really knows his character inside and out, his answers were very insightful. He clearly cares a lot for the role he played, great video.
definitely one of the most informative panels! Much more likeable and humble than Daniels IMO
Loving seeing the prequels getting some love. Good time to be a wars fan
THE PREQUELS ARE SHIT AND DESERVE ALL THE HATE THEY GET
You are mistaken about a great. many. things.
go dig grave for yourself and stay there until we say otherwise. alright?? good boy
Michael McGrath Aren't you a lovely troll
The prequels are utter CRAP. You must be young.
Ian McDiarmid was one of the best things about the prequels. Those films were far from perfect, but I think they really rounded out Emperor Palpatine's character. Ian may have chewed the furniture a bit but damn it was in the best way possible.

But yeah Palpatine is IMO the single most entertaining character in the first two trilogies, he's great, weather he's openly a total evil asshole or a subtle manipulator he just works perfectly.
Agreed. excluding Ewan McGregor, he gave the best performance in the prequels IMO.
As great as Ian and Ewan are in their own right, I feel like they gave the best performances in the prequels because they both had a great original trilogy performance to use as a reference when playing their character. @@thewalrus45 Yeah the Emperor was great in Episode 4!
Ian is a true legend. His role as the Emperor will always be one of my all time favorite movie villains. :)
I vote for more Ian McDiarmid in the coming Star Wars Spin Offs! We need more of the Emperor in our lives and he definitely still has it :D !!!
I don't think you understand how aging works
Small Moustache Man I don't think you do. He said "the emperor", he became the emperor in Rots so a spin off after that makes sense.
Far as I know there are a few decades from Episode 3 to Episode 4.
Rogue One proved that spin offs can exist here in the timeline, so why not get The Emperor into one or two :D
Twice the pride, double the fall. :)
As long as they make the Darth Plagueis novel canon, or don't touch the subject around that timeline at all, I'm all for it, because that book is one of the best things to come out of the entire EU.
I can listen to Ian talk for hours.
"To be defeated by a gang of teddy-bears..." Haha! Best line ever!!!
Damn, he did not drop the Senate line :(
I wonder why he didn't say it, I guess he forgot the line.
It surely was a bittersweet moment for that fan. I would have been a little disappointed in his stead.
By his face it seemed he knew about the memes. Lol
yeah that kinda sucks for that guy
Ryan Keaton - IMO, Ian McDiarmid is the type of actor comparable to the likes of Sean Connery. Very eloquent, and has that certain something only people from England & the United Kingdom posess. It can't be said completely in words, but you have to be in their presence to detect it.
4:30 "Hayden played it so wonderfully."
Yes he did. Yes, indeed.
actually, he is a great actor. it was bad direction.
Michael McGrath arent you an intellectual, using that word. mature as well!
says the idiot defending hayden christensen?
Michael McGrath i never defended him now did i? why dont you go home and ask your parents for some manners
vigilante bird don't worry mate he's just a troll who's not even a star wars fan because as we know true star wars fans love all of star wars not just the original trilogy
Ok Disney listen up. This man is still in good physical shape for his age. It's time for a Darth Plaguise or some Palpatine Prequel Film!
If only you knew what actually happened
Duuuude, I'd watch that!! 😏
Ahhhh u spoke too soon
It's great whenever he talks about how nobody had no idea Sidious and Palpatine were the same person, I remember that being spoiled for me when senator Palpatine was on a sticker or card or something then I thought "hang on, the emperor action figure calls him Emperor Palpatine" and that was the dots connected for me and for quite a few of my friends as well, we'd all worked it out from the toy line
Awesome panel Mcdiarmid and Davis are awesome actors and people as well. Who would have thought one of the ewoks would interview the emperor.
"They drive the wind machines at you. It looks best for the hair."
Yes. The glorious hair of Ian McDiarmid and Samuel L. Jackson. Truly men we can identify by their flowing locks.
Ah Ian McDiarmid what a class act guy! He's always been my favorite SW character. Saw Ian onstage in his play 'Faust x2' at my local theatre in Berkshire a few weeks ago and he was just as forceful and magnetic there as he is in these films. Brilliant actor. Brilliant man.
"I am dead forever". Well there you have it. Emperor Palpatine is definitely not coming back.
Simon McDowell :( i hope he comes back
Prequel._.Duh
Simon McDowell Clones and films set prior to Return of the Jedi could negate the "Dead Forever" line
Haha. Just so that everyone knows I'm not actually taking what he says that seriously and am open to the idea of Palpatine somehow coming back but I don't really see much need for it either.
Hehehehehehehehehe...
1:19 I thought I was dead forever.
J.J: Your'e dead when I say you're dead.
There seriously needs to be a Palpatine stand-alone film. Ian McDiarmid has earned it, hands down. I’ve had the opportunity to meet Ian several times already and he’s such a classy gentleman who’s such an absolute sweetheart. Exquisite explanation about the Darth Plaegus scene when Ian answered the second question in the public.
Best actor in the series, in my opinion.
His perspective on the character is so awesome....
i desperetly need a Darth Palgueis movie
The way he says Darth is just so pure
This was a fun panel to attend and I added it to my vlog. Ian is such a nice guy, how did he ever get cast as the most evil man in the galaxy?! I loved the John guy sitting in the side bleachers as the "sub-par" Emperor! Wish the pre-show was included in this video!
What an extremely comfy looking chair.
Almost throne like
When it comes to these type of interviews and as a person I just love mark hamill and ian mcdiarmad the pair always give great insight and I could watch them and listen to them on this for hours
Loved this! Thank you Ian McDiarmid for bringing one of the most sinister character ever seen on film to life
"I thought I was dead forever, well I am dead forever" they did our boi Ian dirty.
25:53 "Did you remember that one Ian?"
"Not for a second, no"
I died!
11:45 That laugh was genious. Ian McDiarmid, the truly MOST UNDERRATED actor in all Star Wars
It's pretty easy to emulate , but Ian of course does it best :)
delightful...enjoyed this very much,ty 😊
Snoke doesn`t have anything on palpy. Bring back the true leader of the dark side!!
(2020 edit) , my god they brought him back, but in true Disney fashion they managed to screw it up. Congrats Disney, you rock!
DIS^
Archaon The Everchosen How do we know that Snoke called out to him? It wasn't explicitly said, was it? Also isn't the prevailing theory that Gallius Rax is Snoke?
''Palpatine was even scared of him then''
Palpatine ain't scared of your cheesy disney villain hahahah
Snoke was literally in the movie for 10 minutes
I'm saying he's better than Ian, but you shouldn't judge yet
Snoke should have been Darth plageus it makes perfect sense.
I could listen to this man talk all day and never get bored. Shame he's only there for that one day.
My god, Palpatine and Wicket E. Warwick hosting a discussion! :)
That George Lucas impression at 17:28 was so good!
What a wonderful man. Love hearing him speak.
11:34 Shades of Mark Hamill and the joker. Who knew that Palpatine and Luke would go on to become such iconic voices actors?
Tell me why the thumbnail looks like Darth sidious is about to drop a mixtape
D Coz Palpy is da bomb.
Palpatine is among the greatest villains of all time and my top favorite alongside Saruman the White. Masterfully brought to life by Ian McDiarmid. Wonderful.
I love how the guy who guessed the lines strugged with the ot but they showed just a pic for the prequals and he got it right away
Such a great interview we star wars fans are blessed to have ian put on the cloaks could not evan envisage any body else playing the emperor
he was great this was so much fun, love to see him enjoying it. Am bummed nobody asked him to say" I AM THE SENATE!! " best line ever, i would have lost it . but had a blast regardless, much love to you Ian.
micah mitchell I think the guy that asked him what he would say to the Senate punishing him may have been a way to steer him into saying it
Omg I love this man.
I AM THE SENATE! Just do one spin off about Palpatine and Vader pleeeease!
Getting some crisps and a drink to watch all of this, Ian is a legend
They already had Hayden Christensen at the celebration, why wasn't he invited to the DARK SIDE PANEL I mean come on, he's fucking Darth Vader?!
His voice is so cool naturally
Met Ian last year and a local con. He's so awesome.
Wow!!! What a lovely man. Saw him on TV in the Professionals playing mis-understood madman Mickey Hamilton (don't recall the episode but it was around 1980 I think) - whoever thought he'd play such a different type of role? Amazing and diverse talent. Respect.
“The Dark Side of the Force is the pathway to many abilities some consider to be… Unnatural.”
MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE ORIGINAL AND PREQUEL TRILOGY CHARACTER!!!!!
Hearing him read Shakespeare as the Emperor is next level...
“Well I am dead forever.” If only that had stayed true...
Defeated by a gang of teddy bears... ahahahah XD I can't stop laughing!
Ian's voice is amazing! Also, he is intelligent and it seems that he loves the country I live in. He can do no wrong...
his last words were very interesting, he speaks some true words about today.
unlimited power!!!
Obi Wan Kenobi no. you're supposed to say "the high ground"
Obi Wan Kenobi Lol Great! :"D hahaha
Obi Wan Kenobi another happy landing
Obi Wan Kenobi Strong enough with the Force to fight this Darth Sidious, you are not.
unlimited Powaaa!!!!
1:21 “Well I am dead forever”
No ones ever really gone.
You're a brilliant man Ian. Thank you for all especially your closing comments.
This was excellent!
I love Warwick Davis's desk!
Palpatine spinoff movie with Godfather part II format. Half of movie is about Sidious as the master of Vader and the Jedi purge, the other half a flashback to his training under plagueis
And at this point Mr. McDiarmid left the stage with a heart attack, LOL. Such a great sense of humor.
I am finally meeting him at London Film and Comicon this weekend! So excited beyond words to meet the Sithari! Can't wait!
Such a gentle and soft spoken man in real life yet he can transform into the epitome of evil in an instant. That takes real talent. His portrayal of Palpatine in The rise of Skywalker is possibly his best yet. Genuinely frightening & chilling.
He's a legend!
I'm the guy who got to sit in Warwick's chair to ask a question at 34:44. :)
Here we can have a view of Mr McDiarmid's feelings. A great man indeed. And I've also been enjoying Warwick Davis' skills. A really nice -must keep- video. Thanks
that was an AMAZING laugh
I am disappointed he did not drop " I AM THE SENATE " line
it was a dumb question. he should have just asked him to say a line from the film..
I also thought he forgotten the line, but the way he respond using Sidious' tone of voice, I'm sure he knew the line but didn't want to say it. He would have sounded much of an actual politician; which is something that Sir McDiarmid seem to truly have a disdain for.
Perfect, perfect guest ...period.
This was one of the best, if not the best, Panels.
This was awesome
I feel like Ian McDiarmid is the only one who actually understood the Star Wars saga in it's entirety.
11:32 you're welcome
Bwah haha hah ahah ha ha! __
17:31 Ian's impression of George Lucas was so spot on. Freaking hilarious. XD
Great guy
Can't wait to see him in episode 9!
He's got such a great sense of humor too.
One of the greatest characters of all time well rounded out
I adore this man!
Couldn't agree more with his last comment. It's increasingly true.
Enjoying the videos < Glad to spend the perfect weekend with STAR WARS And its superstars ,, Famous or not
My favorite character from star wars :) The Emperor is just so poetic and evil I love it.
I don't know about you, but i was never, never fooled about senator palpatine / sidious. Anyone else? Knew all along, but that wasn't the point - seeing the unfolding was executed amazingly (displaying Sheev's intricate orchestration to come to power)
I also have a hard time accepting that Teddy bears defeated the empire lol
He just makes me appreciate Palpatine's character so much more in both Return of the Jedi and the prequels... and in Robot Chicken.
11:36 you can now see Darth Sidious possessing the body of Ian, as he unleashes a laughter of madness
Disney will DEFINITELY make a Plagueis film with a young Palpatine. Bring it Disney!
Still waiting unfortunately
He was the best part of the prequels; incredibly over the top but entertainingly so, and he made it fit within the films themselves. Would love to see him come back to the films in some fashion.
"Well I am dead forever" - If only that was true Ian... If only.
"I thought I was dead forever...well I am dead forever"
Oh boy.....
Would be awesome if a movie with Vader and Palpatine/sidious in the timeline between revenge of the sith and a new hope
