We sang this in my seminary class this morning. I think it meant more to the students today than it has in times past. Til we meet again President Monson!
Lyrics 1. We thank thee, O God, for a prophet To guide us in these latter days. We thank thee for sending the gospel To lighten our minds with its rays. We thank thee for every blessing Bestowed by thy bounteous hand. We feel it a pleasure to serve thee And love to obey thy command. 2. When dark clouds of trouble hang o’er us And threaten our peace to destroy, There is hope smiling brightly before us, And we know that deliv’rance is nigh. We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness. We’ve proved him in days that are past. The wicked who fight against Zion Will surely be smitten at last. 3. We’ll sing of his goodness and mercy. We’ll praise him by day and by night, Rejoice in his glorious gospel, And bask in its life-giving light. Thus on to eternal perfection The honest and faithful will go, While they who reject this glad message Shall never such happiness know.
I am so greatful for hVing a living Prophet here niw in these latter days God is not silent at all He needs His words of His gospel and His plan He created for us all to know we are His children His Sons and Daughters He loves us all that is ehy He as given He words through a Prophet Russell m Nelson now to be His mouthpiece now thank you Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ
This is one of the best hymns of the restoration of the Lord's Church. It speaks peace to our souls that we have prophet, seers, and revelators on the earth. We should be thankful for the blessing of a chosen prophet of God.
I know that this the true church, the prophet has the autorithy to receive revelation in order to guide us. I will serve in the California santa rosa mission, i am so excited for it
I remember watching th october 2007 conference when the entire congregation ended up standing...first time I had ever seen that while singing the final verse with the choir. Still moves me to think about it.

Happy All Saints Eve! I celebrate both Halloween and All Saints Day. I ask God for 3 blessings for myself and others on Halloween night and thank God for my spiritual gifts and on All Saints Day I thank God for our beloved prophets. 💕 If we celebrate Halloween for honoring God it becomes a sacred day. Holy Spirit is strongest on that day. ❤ It happens to be Halloween and this song popped up in my newsfeed for some reason lol..
I love all of them. But I miss Gordon B Hinkley. He was my Prophet. While I was active in baptisms for the dead and temple blessings. And made an priest.
Hi Shelmadine, thanks for your comment. You're right, Jesus Christ was more than a prophet- he is the Son of God and our Redeemer and Savior. This song was written by a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1860s to express gratitude for prophets- men and mortals- called by God to teach us about Jesus Christ and His gospel. Hi Linda. The hymn you're looking for might be "If the Way Be Full of Trial, Weary Not" by W. H. Flaville.
