Hi Steve. Geraint here from Blue Chip. Lovely video, very clear and accurate. The problem you found on your motor is very common. It always seems difficult to believe that the motor will turn on way and not the other. We have changed our motor offering recently, and now sell the motor without the gearbox, so it a little less hassle to ship back and forth. But we have hundreds of motors and are obviously keen to supply to anyone who want one. Thanks again for your kind references, and best of luck with the brake in the future. Geraint
Hi Mark, you can order the motor from Blue Chip Autotronics Nirfana Bettws Newydd Usk NP15 1HR 01873 740999 bluechipautotronics@gmail.com parkingbrakerepair.com thats where I got mine. regards Steven
Thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos. My epb has just failed and after watching your videos I removed the epb and striped it down and removed the motor to find the motor was shot, I turned the motor on its end and tapped it with a small hammer and loads of black carbon dust came out followed by loads of bits of the brushes etc so I will be contacting blue chip tomorrow. Thank you once again 👍
Steve a great help to me sorting out my problem, have the unit out and will check out the motor. very many thanks, also Geraint from Blue Chip, great sharing guys, many thanks
Thanks Steven, I just removed my faulty unit from an 05 Ford C-Max and its the same unit albeit with the two cables. fingers crossed that its just a replacement motor thats required.

Hey Steven. I have a problem with the cable was broken. Now when i try to assemble it with new cables, the motor turns the wrong way after reinstalling it. Have you any experience with that?
Hello Steven, great video mate. I have a renault laguna mk2 2005 petrol automatic 2ltr turbo and my parking brake lights are on the dash in yellow and red which is a pain in the arse. Car is only worth about £400 so don't want to start paying out a load of money to fix if there is an easy fix that either you or someone else can suggest. From a Dublin man to a Tipperary man slainte.
I just looked at the brushes in a motor from an old 18v cordless drill, they look almost identical but for scale I could not tell. It might have got this motor running for peanuts. It depends how far you want to recycle😉
ya was my motor also, i went to the local scrap he wanted 100, for the whole unit, no one will rip out the motor as the whole unit is worth more, i got him down to 70 as the unit was for the standard 5 seater and my car was a grand scenic, so the unit itself was of no use, they have a slightly different lay out, so i just removed the gearbox and the motor, motor code was different , installed it anyway in to my old unit, worked, fault gone, job, cheers for the vid, helped me alot
Hi Willy, from what I can see, buying a new / replacement relay (can be found online by looking for OMRON G8ND-2 relay), it ought to be a simple job to desolder old one and solder in new one... I seen them online for around 40 dollars (USA) not sure of price in UK or IE though.
hello Steven i have Renault Grand scenic 1.5 dci 2011 7 seater i been having a problem with electronic parking brake the sign keep coming back with the service light saying check you parking brake i have take it my local mechanic he done the troubleshooting lights gone and it work for some time then come back. i don't know what is the fault or what is the problem if can kindly advice me regarding this problem. Many Thanks
Hi, I wish I could advise you, I am no expert, i just like opening things up and trying to fix them, I have no knowledge of the electrical system of the Renault Scenic. If it keeps coming back on after the fault has been cleared then perhaps if you have replaced the motor it needs reprogramming with the VIN number? is the fault code being cleared with genuine Renault software or just a cheap OBD reader? I was advised never touch Renault cars as they have always been plagued with electrical faults... I only got the Renault after my trusty Volkswagen had reached the end of its useful life.... sorry I cannot help at this time. If you do find a solution I'd love to hear about it. regards Steven
Hello Steven many thanks for your kind reply regarding my grand scenic I have taken my car to full Renault diagnosis they found the problem it was electronic parking brake control unit. Unfortunately this is the common problem the original part cost about £220 plus labour about £80 to £100 including program new unit. Never ever Renault car again Best Regards
I tried several places to get the exact motor, the people who make the motor (Johnson) but they would only sell me batches of 25 motors.... so I went to the people who assemble the unit on behalf of Renault...(KUESTER) they said "Due to the contractual regulation we are not allowed to sell parts for the aftermarket. This is only allowed for the official dealer as module - no single parts. Due to the fact that you have opened the actuator no more warranty claim is possible.". So last resort I ordered the motor and re-worked gearbox from Blue Chip Autotronics Nirfana Bettws Newydd Usk NP15 1HR 01873 740999 bluechipautotronics@gmail.com parkingbrakerepair.com I had to get the gearbox aswell as the motor because the lads at Blue Chip say... "The motor has a larger diam shaft, and it requires a centring o ring to align it within the gearbox housing and the fitting for the vibration mount is different so we adapt it and glue this on." (By the way, this is the small gearbox attached to the parking brake motor and NOT the gearbox for changing gears) As soon as the unit arrives I will do a follow up video showing the difference and also reassembling and fitting the unit back on to car.
no, the transformer is 13.8volts and will power the motor, I have used this motor previously to determine if a radiator fan was working or not. In the abscence of having a spare battery the transformer will work fine.

Blue Chip how much for a motor?
Aside from design specifics of the motor, the brushes and contacts consistently wear to a single direction of rotation.

Can i test the motor with a 12v battery or do i need a transformer?
sorry for very late reply, of course you can use a battery, I didnt have one so I used the transformer.
Can anyone tell me which engine is that Johnson or other compatible engine?
Hi,the motor is Johnson.
you can buy motor in this link:www.ebay.com/itm/352851445460
this is the same for the Discovery 3 and 4 EPB
Thx for the video
Any joy with a new motor Steve?

It would only turn if supplied from a battery. The transformer is AC, the battery is DC.

Very useful video but with poor lightning and thats a shame.
Al meter golpe así como has hecho dañas el imán lo rompes y ya ese motor queda inservible
The final video.... EPB attached to car and working again... ruclips.net/video/belYLGR6wng/видео.html
The piece on the table looked like a piece of one of the brushes
Should have waited till the end before comenting
