With his multi-instrumental skills, vocals, composing and producing skills, for me he's like reincarnation of Neal himself.
I don't remember where/when I heard the joke (maybe one of the Morsefests), but the joke is when God was handing out musical talent Eric went through the line multiple times.

Been following Your journey in music since I watched You played @ Neal’s trying out
for the NMB in his studio long ago.
I was totally floord by Your guitar/keyboard-skills both.
The guy from south america was also goof, but You and Your playing
was so much more soulfilled and capturing.
When I saw NMBlater and he was gone, and You still in the band
I was as little surprised as I was happy for the band (and You).
You (and Bill Hubauer) have made NMB sooo much better,
and it truly feels like You’ve been playing together for decades..!
Then, when seeing You play in Portmoy’s progressive cruise and
You doing tge drumming for Neals’s musical… well…
That put You up in the pole position for my favourite musicians.
Of all time, together with EVH & Tony MacAlpine (and maybe some more ppl)
Anyways..:
*Thank* *You* for keeping fighting the good fight
for Music & God.
You always (!) make my day better when I hear You perform,
be it togheher withbothers or by Yourself in Your studio!!
I hope to raise enough money to be able to hire You
