Always been and still is tough to be on the bottom rung. John Sayles has developed and used so many very fine actors in his many great films over and over. Love seeing them play so many different roles so well. Saw most all the early ones in art house theaters in Austin and New Orleans. He is a great director in my books. Thanks for posting.
A powerful film depicting the struggle of labor to gain a fair share and lift themselves out of serfdom. Unions uplifted the poor working man up to the Middle classes. Thank you. They died for us.
Git yer dern headphones and stop yer fuss'n I like this film Pick a side, its your right But dont hold on so tight that you cant let go a little The great experiment is going to adjust and shift until every man woman and child gets a chunk This is Gods country and always will be I love it and i love you too May God bless us all, good and bad Edit Hazel Dickens Gathering Storm yer welcome
By the time I uploaded a copy with much better audio, the first copy with bad audio had over 75,000 views. I think RUclips penalises people who delete videos with lots of views, so I just uploaded a second, better version. Sorry you clicked on the old one!
I made a note of this film being based on true events in the first line of the video description. As for the director, perhaps he thought such momentous events were already well-known as part of US history? I wonder if Mr. Sayles ever imagined so many people would end up so unaware of the price paid by our ancestors for the rights we enjoy today?
The first upload had audio issues over the first ten minutes of running time. The second upload rectifies those issues. I'm sure the film is still available for purchase, for those seeking the best possible viewing experience.
One of my favorite movies. RIP James Earl Jones

I sure hit the jackpot when I clicked on this one . I don't think 10/10 is a high enough rating for this movie .

U R deluded and have been brainwashed by the US Propaganda Apparatchik:(
Unions did not create the middle class.
Wow. Powerful flick. This is the kind of stuff that fills my heart to bursting, assures me that I'm of a people, and brings me to tears. thank you
I'll watch anything by John Sayles.
I've seen this movie many times. Based on actual events. I retain a copy on VHS.
Dynamite. Purely, simply, dynamite.
My kids turned to me "when was this?"
Wow! I'm speechless.
Great film
Thanks for sharing this film, I enjoyed it. Sorry to say there seems to be a synchronization problem.
I will be uploading video with improved audio shortly. This was the best I could do in time to commemorate passing of James Earl Jones.
Thank you for posting this. I've always meant to see this and admire Sayles.

נבקש תרגום מובנה בגוף הסרט לשפה עברית וסרטים עם כתוביות עברית תודה רבה
Was this not "based on a true story"? As a West (By Gawd) Virginia native, I believe it was. Why didn't they say so?
