Yes, Prince wrote this and he recorded it as well. It is on his greatest hits CDs, and he released it on an album.
He was not at all happy when it was taken by the recording studio and given to Sinéad O'Connor.
Sinéad O'Connor's version was a cover as well, although they did not tell anyone that.
This was supposed to be a tribute by Chris when Prince passed away if I remember correctly.

@@omen1513 No, it was written for a band Prince produced in 1985 : The Family (now FDeluxe) where his girlfriend Susannah Melvoin (twin sister of Prince guitarist Wendy Melvoin) was the singer. You can check out on YT their original and the version they did 7 hours and thirteen (not fifteen in Sinead's cover) after Prince passed in 2016.

I grew up loving Soundgarden. I’ll never forget... I was in a small shop wasting time at lunch one day on May 18, 2017. There were several “kids” running the shop that day. I had to have had at least 20 years on them but they were playing nothing but Soundgarden and I remember thinking how cool that was to me. Woke up the next morning and read the news that he had died the night before. That coincidence seemed to make it hit that much harder. One of the greatest voices I’ve ever heard.
