- This fantastic tsamiko is danced by men,in Dora Stratou theatre by Dromena Dance Academy in the performance of 2007!The three solos,are done by order,from Ilias Mavropoulos,Dimitris Delis and Paraskevas Dobros.

In my parents' time they were not arguing about whose music was more authentic but rather how to keep from starving to death and how to keep the children from getting sick and protect them from the Axis invaders and the Andartes.

You cannot steal something like dance or music or knowledge. You must understand that 200 years ago there were no nation states only people living together all over the Balkans. There were no clear borders and no clear nations. Everyone was sharing his knowledge with anyone because they were all living among each other. If the Greeks invented something it was spread throughout the world. The Albanians also. Through commerce or immigration. There you are...
The truth is (and I speak as Greek) that this dance was danced by Albanians and Greeks when the two nations co-existed at Peloponnisos and Epirus during the Ottoman Empire. The dressing of foustanela is NOT Albanian NOR Greek. It was a clothe originating from Byzantium and probably an evolution of the Roman Centurion suit. The Tsamiko dance was of Albanian origin but it was evolved differently in Greece. To claim that the dance is something the Greeks stole from Albanians is pointless.

But if you want to listen where exactly THIS dance was FIRST danced, yes it was in Albania. On the other hand, the idea of a circular dance only for men was born in ancient Greece. Cheers to all!
