Personally I say “Croissant”
You're saying it wrong, it's "Croissant"
I just say cachito
Just say it the way it was MEANT to be said, "Croissant"
Fools, fools all of you! It is pronounced "Croissant."
Yeah, you would say “Croissant” like that. YOU absolute ANIMALS
Puts a smile on my face to see Zee casually return after 3 months wondering about the way to say "Croissant", a timeless dilemma
This is what he has been doing, he was stuck in this dilemma for the last 3 months. I'm glad he managed to end it, even though the poor man never got his Croissant

Just wear a hat that says "please be patient, I have autism" and say it "cross-eye-ant". They'll just be grateful you paid the right amount in a timely manner.
Is it just a coincidence or do you comment under every other video on like every channel on RUclips?
@@mustard7306 that’s some fuckin’ keyser söze shit right there
Proof of concept, Zee doesn't need to make videos revolve around TTRPG's in order for them to be good, his animation style and sense of humor stands strong on their own. Can't wait to see what's next

I love his character designs so much. They're really appealing and compliment his sense of humor.
*I hope you eat many more croissants in your lifetime, Zee.*
The way Zee said "Here comes a paid ad, get ready!" made me think he was gonna crash the car into a billboard
Now I really, really want to see this.
God I wish that was the case, that would've been amazing.
I mean, technically it was. Billboards are paid ads.
That's only when Gabriella drives.
That would have been the perfect segue. If it was a Segway and not a car…
I feel that last part. Sometimes leaning into a misunderstanding just gets you through the day.
Other times it gets you a bagel.

That was what I thought of when read "Leaning into a misunderstanding"

@@SkyEcho751 in the right context that might be the best answer
The answer is simple, loanwords from foreign languages can have the pronunciation altered to match the spoken language even if it's inaccurate to the source language. Unless it's a proper noun, just say it how it sounds natural in the language it's being spoken.
There's a video I saw in a Japanese course where the skit is of a guy introducing himself saying "George desu" instead of "Jooji" for instance, and it makes him look more ridiculous to say his name in the English manner while speaking Japanese than the Japanese even if it's the "correct" way to say it.
Same thing with Chinese. I just introduce myself as "Kai-wen," instead of "Kevin" because "Kevin" sounds kind of silly in context.
That's still just half the solution though. Most people agree that "I'd like a coffee and a kghrwa-saww please" is ridiculous - the question then is what the best Anglicisation of the word actually IS. US "kruh-SONT" and UK "KROS-on(t) are both pretty bad, I prefer the latter but that might just be a familiarity thing. I usually say something like "KWA-son" because it feels closest to what you're describing here - it replaces the non-English phonemes with English ones without unecessarily changing anything else.
@@johnnye87 You don't need a unified selection because dialects also exist. As long as the listener can understand what you're saying then generally the one that comes out naturally will sound the most fitting for the speaker.
In fact there even are some words where someone might use a regional dialect even if they aren't from that region simply because they hear it most often spoken by someone who uses a different dialect.
There's not any reason why a language needs to be homogenized, especially not one with billions of individual speakers. It's not practical nor is it necessary.
that's not even slightly true. "rendezvous" is not pronounced "ren-dez-vows". Ballet dancers are not "Ball-et" dancers. The united states marine corps does not pronounce "corps" as "corpse". "champagne"is not pronounced "champ-ag-nee" and souffle is not pronounced "soofel"
plenty of loan words retain their original pronunciation. and croissant is one of them.
@@Hephera but modern English is like, 30% French already. We've baked the French pronunciations into our language by now. "Can" doesn't mean "always". We don't pronounce "Ninja" or "kowtow" or other Asian loanwords the way the native speakers would, for example.
Given the title, I was worried thinking this was some kinda announcement that you’re not continuing making videos.
I am so relieved to be wrong
I hadn't even considered that read on the title haha!
I was like "Croissant: There's no right way to say it." But then realized that's actually the entire episode in a sentence so I just erased "croissant."
That was also my take away from the title name.
@Zee Bashew Skip the social awkwardness, just dont say it then. Denote the position on the desired delicacy. "Example: The pastry on the center-right, please sir."
@@zeebashew I legitimately thought it was a fakeout meant to imply the same, but then ha-ha! Just joke about food. The fool is every one of us.

Social anxiety in a nutshell
Great to have you back Zee!
Skip the social awkwardness, just dont say it then. Denote the position on the desired delicacy. "Example: The pastry on the center-right, please sir."
@@BLOODKINGbro The true key to conquering anxiety is to just play out the scenario in your head. Mispronounce croissant... Okay... What happens then? Do you die?
Easier said than done, but I recommend it over shortcuts like not saying the word at all. I have a speech impediment where I need to always be ready with a synonym that's easier for me to say or even straight up writing a word down on my phone. But that's necessitated by avoiding akwardness. That's necessitated by the need to communicate. So yeah, don't say crescent if it doesn't get you a croissant. Do say Cro'Saunt if it's wrong but it gets you your croissant.
Also, I know this video isn't supposed to be that deep, but I still wanted to address you comment.
As a French this English dilemma make me laugh every time!
Great video 😁
Wait till you hear me try to pronounce "grognard" in the 2 weeks.
Are there any English words that cause the same anxiety for the French?
@@steveaustin2686 The beach.
@@CeriugEniledam Interesting
@@steveaustin2686 There's basically 2 main ways to speak english in France : panicking on each word, or say english words in a french way while replacing the ones that we don't know by french words
Honestly, Zee, it’s just always a good day when you upload. Whether it’s croissants, dancing snake people, or polterdice, your passion and creativity inspire me.
Just be like us (french ) when we try to say an English world. 100% confidence/ 5% skill.
You’re not kidding. And- it totally works for you.
I like that you're honest about it.
This is sick, I really appreciate a skit video that isn't about Dnd, that bit of variety feels refreshing
Plus if zee does decide to go to more variety stuff, it make all the dnd stuff he does release that bit more enjoyable
Personally I enjoy the DnD content more, but I can understand wanting to branch out as a creator
@@thecryingsoul it a rather hard process to branch out since when you stick to a type of content for so long, your audience typically don't follow unless your content can afford to be more than
A popular example is of tf2 content, most tf2 tubers can't afford to swap to anything else than tf2 otherwise theyl fall terribly
Being able to branch out gives more enjoyment for content creators, with variety to their work as well as more broad enjoyment for those who aren't always into dnd, hope it works out
@@bagseys I think having 30 second clips for other content is a good way to branch out. It lets him experiment with other things and do something different while not taking up as much time as his primary content. For the people who enjoy it, it keeps them satisfied until the next content. For those who don't, it was only a short clip and it serves as a morale booster to keep the creator happy and motivated to keep pushing quality content. I would expect this clip to at least be relatable to the DnD crowd since there are a bunch of weird terms that are impossible to pronounce correctly. There are definitely worse ways to branch out.
A struggle I've experienced! ZEE HAS DONE IT AGAIN
That moment of anxiety when the cashier mishears you when you're ordering something, says the name of an item you didn't want and you're too anxious to correct them so you go ahead and just quietly get that thing and anguish in silence.
Glad to see you back dude o/ We missed you
Using a laser pointer is sometimes helpful.
When i was younger we had a french windhound who would, when he sneezes always perfectly pronounce crossaint
I grew up near enough to Quebec that I feel obligated to say it in French. It’s why I always make a point of trying to find a bakery run by Francophones. (And totally not because I’m a snob!)
I went to Quebec once. That was enough.
Walked into a Dunkin Donuts (back when they used the whole name, those cubicle piloting jerks!) as a customer was speaking IN ENGLISH to the person behind the counter.
I walked up to the counter, and asked, in English, if they knew what time it was.
I got, "Quoi?", and nobody in the entire place was willing to speak the ENGLISH THAT THEY WERE SPEAKING WHEN I WALKED IN!
So, as I left, I quietly said some expletives about parentage and laughed when someone slammed a hand on a table.
One of the beautiful things about being Canadian: you can say French words 'correctly' and no one will think you're pretentious; just took French, or you can say it however you want and no one will care.
Je suis un Montrealier Anglais. Je n'ave pas cette probleme dans mon vie, et je parle en plus du anglais tout le jours. C'est un mot francais, je dit ca en francais. Simple que ca.
I need to apologize for using a word I should not have. The place "near to Quebec" is northern New Hampshire in the US, and after several decades living on the west coast of the US, I foolishly used the word "francophone" to mean "someone who wouldn't react to hearing a French word with incomprehension or annoyance". I have no reason to think that any Canadian anglophone would have such difficulties. I should have known better. My apologies again.
@@cheese_and_pear Y'ain't done nothin' by no one bud. You good.
My wife has this same kind of anxiety. It's hard for me to watch her suffer rather than just say what she wants.

Moral of the story: no one worries more about the little things you do than yourself.
Killing it as always ❤
One of the benefits of my Midwestern accent is it doesn't matter if I say it the English or French way. It's gonna sounds exactly the same.
What REALLY elevates this past being just "Funny and accurate" is the cartoonishly massive bagel he's got afterwards.
That thing's as big as his steering wheel, look at it! Brilliant!
I'm just glad to hear from Zee again.
I discovered your channel a week ago and got used to the claim (played at the end) that videos would be weekly... and repeatedly glancing at the "3 months ago" text on your channel page. Awesome to see that nothing has gone wrong, thank you for keeping at it. (Cold road is my favorite btw)

The conception of snacks oddly enough integral to TTRPG and Wargaming both.
It's a hidden dimension of atmosphere nobody ever thinks of at the table.

Oof, relatable.
The frustration of staring down an incoming choice where you have to pick an option but they're all wrong somehow, quickly followed by the social anxiety panic of being unable to tell another person why you can't just pick an option, and you can't explain it either.
So you implement the best plan you thought of, go hard on it, and is it working I think it's working wait oh no it's not working oh no oh no what now PANIC AND ACCEPT ANY WAY OUT OF THE SITUATION.
