$150 Swivel Seat - Creating a DIY Swivel Seat for my Astro Van

- If anybody has ever looked into getting a Swivel seat for their Astro Van, you'll know that they aren't cheap and they defiantly are not common.
If you can find them you know that they range anywhere from $250 - $400. If you are anything Like me, then making a DIY swivel base was the only option!
In this video you'll see me go through the process from start to finish, building the swivel base, assembling it, and making sure it works.
All the parts cost me roughly $150 and about 2 hours of work. This is a relatively cheap and simple way to create an awesome swivel seat for ANY VEHICLE!
Here are all the materials I used

Metal Plate ( I recommend going to your local metal shop to find this metal, it will be much easier and you can have them cut it exactly as you need. Here is an amazon link just in case. )

Really interesting video Bronson, I love thinking outside the square technology, and designing and building things and making it work, like you did too. It's like a challenge you can't resist taking on, like your Van wiring video I watched a day or so ago
keep the Van life and touring videos and these work in progress content ones coming, they're awesome
Nice work! I was looking into using a barstool swivel, but I'd have to DIY a lock and also I don't know how well it would handle a crash. Your solution is much more sturdy!
Thank you! It works well
Thanks for sharing,good head work!!!!
Not a bad ideal you did make the seat swivel and that was the whole ideal good job .👍
Thank you so much
Take off the stock mount, and just mount your rig to the sliders. Should work fine.
Great work though! I’m very impressed! MacGyver!! 💪🏻
Holy high chair , Batman
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's cool, and I think you could make it lower too, if you made a different way to mount the top, made like a few L shaped brackets to bring the seat down over the swivel more, instead of that flat plate... maybe that could work somehow.
I like the idea, might be a future modification…
Nice Job!
Very cleaver job. Definitely a clean and simple idea! Keep up the good work bro! I cannot wait for your summer trip! You can test everything out and make some adjustments to adapt the whole design to real world needs! Great content!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.
I just filmed the first trip in the van last night, it’s a good one and I learned a whole lot. Make sure to watch out for it!
@@bgrace27 oohh I will brother!!
You have a great personality and I enjoy the vids. Look forward to your posts
Bronson just great on the Swivel Seat. Where is a will to Swivel there is way! always Tommy🤠
😂😂
Thank you Tommy
Good idea and nice job
Thank you
Impressive.
Why did you scrape the metal plates at the beginning?
So paint sticks better
The parts you cut off were where you attach a lap belt. I'm loving your build.
Thank you, I was really worried it was something when I was cutting them off!
you may or may not know that if you push the dome light override button 4 times it turns your daytime headlights off.
Bro you are awesome, thank you. I was wondering why they were always on
Boy you got it going on!!!
What a nice build for the swivel seat. That takes some engineering skills--awesome. And yes, I like the color of your van. Yellow gives it character. You should go into the custom van building business as I am sure you would make money. And, I would have you build me a van.
Haha thank you very much, I appreciate that a whole lot.
I would actually love to be able to build out vans and campers for people, it would be a lot of fun
Awesome job!!’
I seem to recall that you can get that front seat a little lower. Look in wreck
Ing yards for an old Astro passenger van with three rows of seats. If you find a van with the second row with seats like the front, the mounths in the second row are shorter. You might keep the in the back of your mind.
You have no idea how helpful that is, thank you so much. I’ll look into it
Very clever!! Definitely be proud of yourself!! Now if you can just mass produce it, you’d be in business. 😊
Not a bad idea!
I would’ve maybe take off some so that both chairs end up being at the same height
@@marcelonator I can’t take anything off lol
IT'S A DEATH TRAP!!! The seat was bolted to the floor with four bolts, now it only has ONE bolt through the swivel mechanism. The seat belt bolts to the seat frame so on impact it's useless as it should be transfered to the floor. It's a nice job if nobody sits in it other than when the van is parked.
I travel alone. I don’t sit in passenger seat while driving
@bgrace27 that was a twatty answer.
Is it better for your channel to just "like" any comment???
@@mattblack133 honestly I have no clue
@mattblack133 i dont feel like it was a twatty answer. He plainly stating that he travels alone and doesnt sit in that seat while the van is moving. Just because he didnt respond overly enthusiastic doesnt mean he was being "twatty" sometimes the best answer is the simplest/shortest.
We have the Iron Clad swivel and its defiantly not a different height for the passenger seat... if it is it is very little because I do not notice it.
But I like your concept
Hey bro , im from the uk & im pretty sure this would not pass the MOT with this modification to the drivers seat
No it certainly wouldn’t pass, I don’t use it driving though so I’m not worried
So expensive! Is there a reason you couldn't have used one of the hundreds of swivel mechanisms under $20 on Amazon? If they're strong enough for boats, they should work for other kinds of vehicles, too, right? I'm planning on converting a Toyota Sienna for camping and would love to figure out how to swivel the passenger seat around.
Those little ones would require a large amount of bolting larger sheet metal pieces on to make them fit the bolt patterns in the van. I also don’t trust a $20 swivel that much weight (sheet metal, chair, person) to withstand the test of time.
I’m you are looking for a cheaper option I would check out Northern tool for their swivel seat. It’s $100 and seems to work great. I don’t have a link but somebody mentioned it within the comments in this video.
I've also got a sienna I want to swivel in!! There is absolutely nothing readily available to us. I'm going to take the seat out this weekend and see what we're dealing with...
Awesome! Thank you so much! Blessings 🌱
Can I do this on my Dodge caravan
Yes you can. You’ll just have to build it to fit your specific bolt pattern. Easy peasy
Where you buy the swivel
I have a link in the description!
Those bars you cut off are seatbelt mounts.
Haha thank you, fortunately I was able to attach the seatbelt elsewhere
I love your build!! Also you could be Mav @mav Doppleganger! At the very least his brother. Are you two related?
Haha nope I’ve never even met him! I’ll take that as a compliment though 😁
@@bgrace27 I call him my long lost son. Sooo I guess I have Two now! Yay!!😁 Keep doing what you're doing. I am proud of you for taking the chance to live the life so many only dream about. I am well on my way to living the dreamlife too. 🧡💛💚
I must be the lucky guy.. They have them at the savage yard for $50.00.. You have to take the seat with it..
Very lucky
Seat that swivel
Northern Tool part number 23434
Well crap, I’m an idiot. Thanks for the Info
@@bgrace27 Hey, making your own stuff is still cool!
N.Tool swivels are Not 180 swivel....only 35 deg for tractor seat. Also not rated for cars/vans.
My heater ac fan switch shorted smoked kill the van.
That sucks bro
