  • Hopefully this video helps you guys understand a little bit more about how to run your electrical system, below I will include some links to products that I used if you are looking to do the same thing I did. I will also write down some key topics for a good reminder.
    KEY TOPICS
    --------------------
Series VS. Parallel - Series is connected by putting the negative to the positive terminal and vise versa. By connecting batteries in series it ADDS THE VOLTS and keep the AMP HOURS THE SAME.
Parallel is connected by connecting the positive to positive and the negative to the negative. By connecting batteries in parallel it keeps the VOLTS THE SAME, and ADDS THE AMP HOURS.
What are Amp Hours? - It is a rating that tells you how many amps the battery can release in an hour.
    (the more the merrier)
Fuse Protection - You need to find the rating of whatever you are installing to properly fuse/protect your equipment safely. By over sizing the fuse you are leaving room for failure in the electrical system which can lead to fires.
Wire Sizing - Use a wire size calculator to figure out what size of wire you will need. This is extremely important as it will make your whole system fail if incorrect.
Type of Wire - You will want to buy stranded wire (no solid) since it bends much easier. You will also want to buy it in BLACK and RED if you have the choice. Like I said in the video, I had wire on hand so I used what I had!
DC vs. AC? - DC stands for Direct Current. This is the type of power that is used in all vehicles and most campers, it is also the power stored in batteries. Generally, for a van build, DC is what will be used most since It is already stored that way in our batteries.
AC power stand for Alternating Current. This is the type of power that is used in any residential house, commercial building, and most everything you see. This type of power can be made or transformed by putting DC power into an Inverter.
