  • #vanlife #scotland #nc500 #berlingo #microcamper #borderterrier Dunnet Head and John O'Groats.
We had after spending 2 weeks on Shetland and Orkney, landed back on the mainland.
Our plan, (As far as plans go) was to visit Dunnet Head Lighthouse and try to find a good spot to spend the night, before heading off the next morning to check out John O'Groats.
Did we find a spot and what did we think of one of mainland Britain's most Northerly Tourist hotspots?

Thanks for coming along. Wonder if you remember it being as busy. We did part of it back in 2017 and don't remember there being so many vans on the route. 🤔🐕🚙

Thanks Sam. Not our cup of tea either, would much rather be out in the wilds.
Do have to say, this series was filmed back in May. Currently at home suffering withdrawal symptoms and planning our next adventure 🙃 🐕🚙

you had a stunning adventure ,i never want to come home when we go to scotland its breathtaking and so peaceful the wilds are calling, look forward to your next adventure your setup, was one reason i went for a micro camper ,is your solar efficient on dull days ,thinking for my van is a bluetti power station that can be charged at ev points ,the car cigarette skt, mains,.solar ,i could get a cheap fold up panel to leave in window when parked up if its worth it ,my main thought is to keep the van normal so its unassuming, park ups are easy no one is aware your there, also not a target for theft most of our tours would be out the way unspoilt areas are our favourite places ,tried van out in blackpool no one knew we was there, got to learn that everything has its place and learn from mistakes but not sure how im going to kit it out yet, think also induction hob so no gas and more space as no bottle, and safer, think i could store a portable stove in engine compartment as back up, anyway thanks for the inspiration dont think im knocking your van,im not its what you want from your van its bespoke to your needs and trade offs have to be made and tweaks done but main one for us was the big bed ,its bigger than alot of the bigger vans in such a small space maxing the vehicles potential, bonus is easier vehicle to drive get anywhere and alot cheaper to run 😁

We certainly did and NW Scotland didn't disappoint!
Regarding solar. Due to us driving on most days, charging our leisure battery was mainly achieved via the split charger. However, on the days we stayed put, the panel came into its own for running the fridge, lights, watching movies and charging up all our gadgets. Not an expert in solar, but a electric hob, like heaters will draw alot of power and not sure solar when out in the wilds would cope. Could be wrong of course.
As fir knocking our setup, know you're not. We all have to setup for what works for each of us. No way would we be stealth camping on street. So externally mounted kit is not an issue for us.
Excited for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on 🙂🐕🚙

hi thanks for heads up on solar ,before you couldn't use ev to top up power but now it opens up a different mindset in that you will never run out as top up using ev points are getting better and more common i still have the portable stove in case and like you can charge as i drive a small foldaway solar panel i think will help things along im more likely to wild camp than anything but some sites i wont rule out for their position ,but part of the adventure is the park up and in the wilds you get some great park ups also if the bluetti hasn't enough power you can expand it and my build will incorporate this and hopefully wont need it ,im quite basic used to camping car camping and to me these vans in their crudest layout are luxury tbh unfortunately getting old so have to plan for future needs hopefully it will be the same the main one for me was the peugeot is automatic to make driving even less of a chore and already converted a tip from a aged neighbour yes ill keep in touch im still looking through your vids and some good tips can be gleaned thank you so much cheers sam@@the-other-windsors

regarding next adventure ,if your planning a winter tour head south and to avoid snow and ice iow a pleasant climate and a really great island to explore nice rolling landscape with coastal views not far away, our trips usually scotland autumn and south or iow in winter avoiding steep hills ie devon if icy treacherous, the southern quiet resorts are my choice plenty of history as we were always at war in the past cheers sam
