  • Hey, it's Tim here from Divergent Elite Detailing in McDonough, Georgia, and AskDivergent.com. We recently got a question about whether we can remove overspray from vehicles. This is a common issue with commercial painting jobs where paint mist can land on cars in the vicinity due to the wind. In this case, we were dealing with latex paint on a vehicle.
Our approach to removing the overspray starts with identifying the type of paint - in this instance, latex, which sets the course for our cleaning method. We use a two-bucket wash system, employing G Technic G Wash as our soap for lubrication during the cleaning process. For the removal, we employ a special cloth that acts much like a clay bar to lift the latex paint without damaging the vehicle's surface. This cloth is folded into quarters, allowing us to rotate it for a clean surface as we work through each panel of the car, ensuring we don't scratch the paint with contaminants picked up during the process.
It's important to only use such techniques on vehicles you're prepared to follow up with polishing since the clay bar or similar methods can leave micro-marring on the paint. After clearing the paint, we polish the vehicle to remove any haze left behind, ensuring a clean finish. The key is to work slowly, keep the rag clean by rotating and rinsing it as needed, and avoid unnecessary steps like polishing if they're not required. This method has proven effective for us in handling latex paint overspray.
