Relieve Morning Foot or Achilles Pain from Running

  • Achilles tendon and plantar fascia problems can make your feet hurt when you get out of bed in the morning. Doing these exercises in bed first can help prevent morning foot pain and make walking comfortable, and this can help you get back to running as well.
You might feel like what you need are stretches to help relax your feet, but those usually don’t help much. Instead, these exercises promote circulation to move the excess fluid from your overnight healing out of your feet so the pressure of standing isn’t so painful.
Improving circulation and strength in your feet also facilitates your healing process, helping you recover from conditions such as achilles tendinopathy and plantar fasciopathy.

Have you tried anything else to keep those first steps from hurting?

Nice job Jae. Before taking your camp and working directly with you, Achilles issues were a big problem for me. No more problem now; however I did find this video useful not only for the foot, ankle and lower leg. The basic idea of checking your body out for niggles before getting out of bed is an awesome one. I don't get overuse or overload issues in running anymore, but occasionally I'll overdo something in strength training. It is insightful to know these things as early as possible in the day to promote the quickest and best recovery. Thanks!

Thanks Mia! Yes, checking your body, taking care of niggles, and setting up how you want to be moving before you get out of bed is really powerful. I've been doing it for a few months now and I'm amazed at the difference it's making in how I move and feel all day long. Downside: it's taking me longer and longer to get out of bed in the morning, lol.

Great. I’m doing this in the AM.
I only started having PF playing tennis. I have found that using Xero shoes has been helping some but on the shoes they recommended the soles just don’t have as much grip as I need for tennis movements. Anything else you would suggest?
As you suggested before, using red light on my feet has also helped! Thanx for all your suggestions!

My husband actually wears Vivobarefoot court shoes for tennis and he's really happy with them. He plays a lot of tennis, and he's healthier in the Vivos than he was in conventional tennis shoes.
I haven't looked much at tennis, but I did notice when my husband was struggling with PF that he was holding his hips too far behind his feet--same dynamic as in running, just a bigger movement. So that's something to check about yourself and see if you can keep your weight over your feet better.

      Interesting about the hips.
Will check out the Vivo court shoe. None of them seem to have much traction on the soles so I’ll be skating around again soon like I do now in the Xeros. Hoping both companies can improve that somehow. Or would you resole?

Thank you, it’s interesting I find it hard too coordinate the tippy/monkey movement for my foot with Achilles problems, the other flues through

Interesting! Take it really slowly and make it small, and I would expect it will be helpful.
